It's not about the size or shape of the muscle cells. It's about the color. Most people have red or white muscle cells, but with the correct training you can achieve blue muscle cells, which improve your swimming ability and allow you to access the underwater parts of the gym. And if you really dedicate yourself, you can even achieve the vaunted golden muscle cells, which allow you to fly and access *all* parts of the gym.

That was DEFINITELY way too much volume for one workout. It works when you're younger, but as age goes up and injuries start to creep up on you, the amount of exercises will destroy you.
I have a messed up pec/shoulder from a car accident a few years ago, which impacts how much chest work I can do. I would have to call it quits after about 2 exercises, and they did 10. Definitely better to break this workout up into 2 separate days.

    Dr. Mike,
I have a question about the whole muscle density thing… there is a difference between hypertrophy and hyperplasia in the muscle, right? And there are some pretty clear as day cases of somebody with significantly smaller muscle volume being an order of magnitude stronger than somebody with HIGHER muscle volume. Even though I know that other things factor into that like motor unit recruitment etc.. But I thought that there was actually a pretty general consensus that there IS such a thing as muscle density… could you perhaps elaborate further on that? Or is that a thing where science hasn’t necessarily uncovered the inner workings of that, or? Anyways, I would appreciate a response. Am pretty interested in stuff like this.
    Thank you in advance.

100% Big chest is usually a decent indicator of "gym bro/gear head who thinks they can fight but can't" and the people who actually want to mess with you are usually insecure people who want to bully other to prove how tough they are. Don't get me wrong, being big overall will reduce chances because of sheer physics but its not the big chest thats doing it.

Jeff Nippard, Mike Isratel, and Jeff Cavalier all pretty much align on the science topics. I've been on a Athlean-X program for 3 years and its almost exactly what Dr. Mike says. The only thing is that Athlean is more of a whole body athlete performance coach rather than a growth/bodybuilder focus like Mike and Nippard. So you get a lot more corrective and mobility exercises than straight hypertrophy growth. For example an Athlean program may have you do explosive box jumps some days instead of heavy squats.
