I love how you mounted the LEDs in that channel. The light seems more diffuse and it looks like there's an even cover over all the area. Definitely something I'll consider when I eventually get to building my own home media space. Fantastic build. You can be very proud if what you've managed to achieve 💪 💯
Thank you very much! I appreciate the kind words. I did forget to mention in the video though that I did have an initial issue with the LED's in the track. When I installed them I just stuck them down without thinking, and when they were turned on for the first time the line across the ceiling that they created wasn't even at all, it actually looked pretty bad. Because the 2x3's are somewhat 'blocking' the projected light, the LED's have to be centered in the channel for the line across the ceiling to be even across. It's not hard to do, just something to keep in mind. Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you so much again for watching!
I agree, i thought the LED channel was really interesting. And the in wall speaker setup is really clean. No doubt the room probably sounds amazing, but it really looks great
Even the details in the push locks on the screen frame that line up with the studs. Have to appreciate that level of precision of securing your theater. Wow
@@Chris-hr2uj Thanks again - I'm a firm believer in planning. I've learned from experience, trust me! I'd rather try to plan and do it right the first time than have to do something all over again!
Thank you very much! I think it sounds really good! But I'm sure I'm biased a little bit. That and I don't really have anything else to compare it with other than an actual movie theater, which I've been told by some friends that have experienced my space that it sounds better than an actual theater. 😁 But I did take a lot of time to really get everything dialed in, and I still have some work to do as far as sound quality goes = room treatments and acoustic posters.
Congrats on the room, turned out very nice indeed and is a great overall room, a suggestion could be to put a heavy velvet curtain across the opening that could enclose the theatre part a little more.
Thank you very much! It's funny you mention the curtain idea, I've actually thought of that myself. Maybe someday down the road. I don't need it for light since it's a light controlled basement, but I'm guessing it would help for sound absorbtion. I could actually do it on both sides if I hung it from the soffits I built. Thanks for watching and for the idea!
@@TyEichele All good... attached to the soffits and split in 2 is exactly what i was thinking lol... I think it would tidy nicely beside the couch! Great minds. I am starting a new house build shortly so looking forward to my theatre build but won't be until the house is handed over so about another year!
I’ve been following your build for a long time. I’m glad you got it to how you like it. You did an amazing job. Right now I’m texturing the walls so hopefully I will be close to having my room done soon also.
Thank you for that! You can look through my channel and see various stages of the build. I don't have a video on it specifically, but as the initial construction begins you can see how it was framed out. Just check out my other videos from earlier on. Thanks again!
To keep the basement space open for other uses. The kids play down there all the time. Especially in winter, they can run around down there or set up games, toys, etc. Also, any closer to the 140" screen and it would be too close. You'd have to move your head around to look at the whole screen, and that wouldn't be enjoyable (for us anyways). It's a multi-use basement, and it just works best for us!
Awesome theater setup. Do you have any issues with the air produced by the 4 subs behind the screen causing the screen cloth to vibrate and distort the movie picture? Just wondering because I'm in a similar position to be able to install a subwoofer behind my screen.
Thank you first of all! I do not have any issues with screen movement. That might be because of the push locks I have at the bottom of the screen holding it in place possibly. I did watch the screen closely during some intense bass scenes and while looking from the side you can see it move a little bit from the bass but while watching the screen from the seats you can't tell at all and it doesn't change viewing whatsoever.
How have you liked having 3 love seats? I’m working on a similar layout and was looking at 3 love seats with shared arm rests. Just curious what your thoughts are
We like them a lot actually! They fit the space, everyone has their own cupholder, and we can always get the removable armrests for separation. The kids like to lay down when watching so it gives them that opportunity as well since no middle armrest in the way. We have no regrets at this point! Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Probably not, even though I pre-wired for it just in case. I don't really have enough distance behind my row of seats for it to make sense. And I'd have to relocate my current surround to the sides of my seats, but I have no wall to attach them too there and not going to use stands. So probably not. Just doesn't make sense physically. I thought maybe I'd try di-pole speakers back there sometime but they'd still be really close to the rear surrounds so not sure that would really make sense or make much difference.
@@TyEichele yeah I honestly think sometimes 5.2.2 or a 5.2.4 atmos setup is better cause when I did have a 7.2 I honestly didn’t like it that much but when I went to 5.2.2 it was so much better then 7.2
Just found your channel and I'm lovin the build man! With the svs subs in the back, do you lose out on tactile feel with the drivers facing sideways as opposed facing the seat? Cause I know some people do the nearfield sidetable thing, and how you do it, but I've never actually felt a setup like that before. Anyways, love it! Hope you enjoyed your memorial day as well brother, as best as we can anyways
Thank you! I do not loose out on anything with the subs turned facing each other. Subwoofers create bass, which is omnidirectional, meaning it doesn't matter which way the speaker is facing the sound starts at that location and travels 360 degrees away from the source. The only thing turning it or facing it will change is the output and how well it plays with other subwoofers in the room, or might change the output based on room modes, which is the affect the room has on the output of the bass. Plus, I have bass shakers in every seat so I can really dial in the tactile experience with those.
Thanks! I hadn't really thought of that idea....I'll have to give it some thought, but when I initially was setting them all up there was very little changes in delay that needed to be done to the front 18's when time aligning the two pairs of 18's. I'm sure it's because they are so close together. I'm not sure it would make sense to put them on their own channels. Thanks for the idea though - maybe I'll research it a bit more! 🙂👍
Yes I did see that - great feature and thanks for sharing that with all that see this! Loving my Harmony setup though, one remote for everything is very handy. 🙂
Soon hopefully - I have plans to hook up the Umik-1 while showing some demos to see some live SPL using the RTA (real time analysis) feature inside of REW. It should be fun! Stay tuned....
There is some great workmanship in this build but considering this was a down to the studs rebuild there are some choices that are the worst possible choices for a home theater.; Open plan; No walls to properly position speakers. You can’t properly pressurize the room. Yet you have to switch off subs at night as the sound just travels up the stairs Seats against the back wall right where you will have a standing wave.
