Cliff jumping for me = 5 meters...

I just did my first cliff jump from about 50 feet at Angora lakes near Tahoe... Never even jumped from something half that size. I knew it was dangerous but I should have checked it out before. I watched a couple people go and decided to try it but it took me about an hour to get the courage to run and jump. Once I started running that was it, I was going but my heart was racing so bad. Did pretty well bruised my butt hitting the water but that was it... I wish I would have watched this first though... I didn't realize how dangerous it could be if I fucked up that jump. It was such a rush though and I loved to do it again.

Yeah, you probably shouldn't send your first cliff jump from 50 ft! There's a rule in the cliff jumping world called the rule of tens, which is basically don't jump off anything 10 ft higher than your previous highest jump, LOL!

One thing I might add is regarding measuring the depth. You can't see too clearly in many lakes, so an eye test underwater is impossible. That leaves us with diving to gauge bottom depth. Now, while it is possible to gauge it this way, you may miss some things jutting out in murky water. That's why I always use my trusty depth finder. I can accurately scan every inch of the bottom, and see everything down there, leaving no doubt about how deep it is and if anything is protruding out at a small area that can be missed by diving. I can do it all without even getting in the water. It would suck to get to a spot, go through the trouble of diving down a bunch of times, only to find out I can't jump there. My favorite cliff is 90 feet deep, right at the wall, so I don't worry about there anyway. But before I ever jumped there, I took the sonar over it even though people were already jumping, and it was obviously a popular spot already, for many years. But I still used the sonar. You can never assume it's safe, and you can never be too safe. We all must remember that.

Years ago I almost snapped my leg in half due to a sketchy cliff jump, it was a very popular place to jump I just decided to get frisky and jumped from a sketchy take of and hit a ledge under the water, luckily I just missed it and came away with a big gash, I wish I had watched this video back then. Even if it’s a popular place it can still get sketch at times.

what should be the depth if we are jumping from 10feet high. should we go straight through water. or should we bend soon as we hit the water.
I jumped from a 6feet high into a 10feet depth. I went too deep I could find the bottom. I'm just worried if I may hit bottom.. afraid if bottom is mud.

My friend once hesitated and fell all the way down a 25 ft cliff and smashed his face on rocks at the bottom. Be careful gents, he had to be airlifted to the hospital and had a huge gash in his head. It could have been much, much worse. Scope out the spot, make sure there is nothing underwater, and be confident. If you are too nervous about a jump, DO NOT DO IT.

I'm here listening to this video because I jumped off the cliff in fetal position and it bruised the back of my thighs very badly. I felt discouraged after that. I wasn't even informed that fetal position is the wrong way to jump off. No one cared to tell me that. Believe me it feels great and exciting to jump into the water up high. But make sure you have someone with you who is well experienced. One who's experienced must teach you to jump correctly. Beginners like me can end up hurting themselves.

U R NOT ME I did two years of diving classes. So my basic tips are : Hold your hands together really tight, the water will try and push them apart (then your head is hitting and that's bad). Also, you can't jump from as high when diving vs jumping.

Like he said... Know your skill level. By asking that question, it tells me that you shouldn't dive head first, if it's much over 40 feet. At 40 feet, you can land how the hell ever, and be okay. Trust me, I got lots of experience in bad landings, from swinging off a rope at 40 feet. Sometimes timing was off and letting go too soon caused awkward landings. But if you insist on going against good advice, then simply break the water with your palms. You know, like Olympic high divers may do from extreme heights. As you are about to enter, stretch your arms over your head and hit palms first to break the water. Keep your head tucked directly behind your palms upon entry. That's it.

how high do you start to risk breaking something or getting seriously injured when a jump goes wrong? I'm looking at about a 30 foot jump and want to try a single back flip but im worried if i screw it up and back flop will I get seriously injured? Obviosuly wont hold you accountable for any advice given!

You can break something landing wrong going off a basic (low) diving board. The higher you go, the greater the chance. If you have smaller cliffs - or a pool with a high dive - start on those, just humping off first...then dive...then flips. Go higher and higher (if possible) doing straight jumps, then dives. Again, once you hit that 30 foot cliff, jump feet first a couple times to get used to it and kind of time yourself (not an actual stop watch, of course!)...but once you get used to the feeling/how much "fall time" you have, then you can try to add the flip.
