Roger is and was as a competitor the best of his era and possibly the best ever. Nothing flashy, no ego, just super sound fundamental BJJ that is on another level.
Jiu-Jitsu IS fundamentals, at least should be for the majority of people as most are not athletes. The only people that should go for flashier techniques are those who have fully mastered the fundamentals and are confident with their BJJ in every situation against every opponent. Otherwise, stick to the basics and survive.
@@DeepDiveJJ it’s funny as the new wave guys start to return to the basics, it just makes sense though, connection to the other person is always going to win
Great review. Just saw Bernardo interview Roger. He explained how he keeps mount. BTW, look at the upper left part of the screen..Roger’s dad, Rickson and Rillion are watching the match. I’m sure it’s no longer an easy task to get that many Gracies in one venue anymore.
And yeah, that was a great detailed breakdown. Seeing those kinds of details is very helpful to this white belt to see "all the moves you don't see", so to speak.
Not sure how this video popped up in my recommendations but I'm glad it did. An absolutely superb breakdown! Neither of these men are small -- I believe Bernardo may be 6'1"-ish and Roger is at least 3 inches taller. And combining Roger Gracie's skill with his size?....Good Lord, what a combination.
liked this breakdown. I have though that Roger mainly rely on his pressure, but it really looked like he has very precise counter game against Bernardo Faria's excellent half guard
A+ on the breakdown >> Basic moves by Gracie that many white belts and blue belts are aware of >> Gracie uses such basic white belt moves and fundamental moves in Jiu Jitsu > Roger is so technically sound > I love his Jiu Jitsu !
The way I saw it, was the guillotine was for threat and control. Once he used it to resquare, reflatten and force Faria to bring his hands up, it had completed it's purpose and Roger could go back into his A-game.
I’m at 10th planet and we always have good explanation lol. I think more traditional schools have teachers that don’t explain these complex concepts thoroughly
@@chrisgrady4466 can confirm. I play a style heavily influenced by BF and whether passing or bottom you're getting a lot of push and pull on head and neck. Not a good game for a young man wanting to keep their good looks. Fortunately I am middle-aged and funny looking already.
I don't know why I came to think of this, but the only chance BJJ will ever be an Olympic sport, is through Judo, which may be called free-style Judo, as in wrestling. Extended time on the ground, no guard pulling, and straight leg locks permitted. It would be good for both sports/arts. With the current rules, not a snowballs chance in hell. But maybe that is best for BJJ.
Now I understand the latest Roger Gracie mount video… they joke about not getting caught by the Ezekiel choke and it went over my head until I saw this
Bernardo at the end of the match, “Wow that’s amazing”
huge honor for me!
😂😂😂
Its almost impossible to read that without reading in his voice lol
😂😂 I read that in his voice too

Yup. Some might see him as boring and plain. But that ‘boring and plain’ style proved to super effective and extremely dominant.

🤣🤣🤙🏼🤘🏼
Good breakdown, my friend. Bernardo has a heart of gold but Roger is on another level
Yea he is a fighter for sure! But like you said, Roger is just so dominant.
Yes, heavyweight level 😅
another level, just means ANOTHER LEVEL.
Imagining what Roger would do against the leglock game of today. Guessing he'd learn enough to defend them and still stick to his fundamental style.
Yea similar to JT Torres!
So unexpected to see you over here lol
The hell are you doing here?
This breakdown is incredible. Thanks for taking the time.
Thank you for the kind comment!
This was really great. Thanks so much for taking the time to point out so many of the little details I would've missed.
Makes me happy knowing people benefit in any way from these breakdowns. Will continue to put out useful breakdowns weekly 🙂
The breakdown is SPOT ON. That’s why Roger is so great he doesn’t give you what you want or need then it’s over.
Thank you! and yup, Roger didnt give him anything
@@DeepDiveJJ I hate fighting better Black belts like this. 😀. It’s so frustrating. It’s as if their invulnerable.
@@bxlawless100 I know the struggle 😫
It is a huge honour for me to watch this video!
Oss!
Great breakdown and appreciated the notes not fading away quickly which made it easy to read and to look at the areas that are being spoken about. 👍🏽
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful
That was a great breakdown. I never thought of the guillotine being a counter to the bottom player going into deep half! 🤯
Thank you! I never thought if either til i saw this too 🤯
always treating with the submission...yeah man

Yea passing Faria is def not an easy feat.

I love his Jiu Jitsu !
Thanks! Yea his jiu jitsu is refreshing to watch because of how simple yet technical his game is.

Thanks!
Roger BJJ is simple, he mastered it to another level...
He definitely did!
Nice breakdown 👍
Thank you!
Not the GOAT, the GOD of BJJ. Thanks so much for the amazing breakdown, so much gold in there to learn.
Of course! Glad you found the video useful!
Great video of 2 world class champions
Yup. Both legends in their own rights!
Exec summary: Faria pulled bottom side control.
Lol yea definitely slipped up with his pull
He pulled 1/8 guard and quarter mount.
Excellent breakdown. Good job
Thank you!
Bernardo: "Huge Honour"
😂
Great video!
Thank you!
Such an honor

Hey guys! Huge honor for me!

Roger is on another level
He def is!
That's amazing
💯
awesome breakdown!
Thank you!
How crazy. I was just wondering if these 2 had ever matched up.
Faria vs the GOAT
Yup, Roger really put it on em
Boy, Faria is really something.
He fought hard but Roger was just too much 😅
Thanks for making this. Why did Roger give up the first guillotine?
The way I saw it, was the guillotine was for threat and control. Once he used it to resquare, reflatten and force Faria to bring his hands up, it had completed it's purpose and Roger could go back into his A-game.
I can't believe the Brazilian Kermit once had hair in this video was missing the "HEY GUYS IS HUGE HONOR FOR ME"
“Brazilian Kermit” 😂
I'd be curious to hear the height/weight stats of each going into this match. Roger's physicality is non-trivial to say the least.
Hmm yea I'm curious too
Concise explanations, which can be a rare thing in a bjj dojo. 😅

Roger was the best in the world 🌎 He still doesn’t get enough credit when they talk about how great he was
Yea he was definitely something special!
Roger is the best. Faria was great too. Faria has a good UA-cam channel now.
Yup and his own instructional business too aka BJJFanatics
what a great honor for me to see Bernardo with hair. lol 😂
😂 The bald look matches him so well though
Roger is such a massive dude. Faria is already a big guy, Roger dwarfs him. Rogers positional control on top has a lot to do with this.
Yea Roger really shut him down. Crazy how technically sound he is especially considering he is a big guy.
@@DeepDiveJJ The guy has been doing Jiu-jitsu his entire life around some of the best players ever, the Gracie Family. I'd expect nothing less.
Every top competitor uses a game that maximizes their physical attributes.
Trying to pull deep half guard against Roger was a big mistake.
Most definitely was!
Grappling with Roger, probably anything feels like a mistake.
Funny how Faria rushed him to avoid falling into Roger's game, and yet did exactly that. You guys might recall Cat Zingano vs Rousey.
It's a huge honor to get choked by Roger Gracie!
😂
Bernardo style of bjj looks miserable...a lot of the time someone is latched onto his head. I know he wins a lot but damn that looks so uncomfortable

Yea i think the guard pulling can look a little foolish. Especially with all the double guard pulling

Lesson of the story: Bigger man won.
At this level where competitors are so close in skill, the weight is definitely a huge factor.
