    Roger is and was as a competitor the best of his era and possibly the best ever. Nothing flashy, no ego, just super sound fundamental BJJ that is on another level.

    • @DeepDiveJJ
      @DeepDiveJJ  3 роки тому +8

      Yup. Some might see him as boring and plain. But that ‘boring and plain’ style proved to super effective and extremely dominant.

    • @dan5626
      @dan5626 2 роки тому +4

      Jiu-Jitsu IS fundamentals, at least should be for the majority of people as most are not athletes.
      The only people that should go for flashier techniques are those who have fully mastered the fundamentals and are confident with their BJJ in every situation against every opponent. Otherwise, stick to the basics and survive.

      Great review. Just saw Bernardo interview Roger. He explained how he keeps mount. BTW, look at the upper left part of the screen..Roger’s dad, Rickson and Rillion are watching the match. I’m sure it’s no longer an easy task to get that many Gracies in one venue anymore.

    I don't know why I came to think of this, but the only chance BJJ will ever be an Olympic sport, is through Judo, which may be called free-style Judo, as in wrestling. Extended time on the ground, no guard pulling, and straight leg locks permitted. It would be good for both sports/arts. With the current rules, not a snowballs chance in hell.
