- It was night #2 of the 2023 Southern Street Stock Nationals at Whynot Motorsports Park near Meridian Ms and we were qualifying on this night. I made several changes on wheel loads and worked at getting more grip in the car. I think we did accomplish that but these guys are seriously fast . . . :)

Man I wish I could have made it down to the track.
Get the Orange Crush locked in and I’ll by a pair of shoes for the big dance!
I'm trying hard Chuck but these boys are legit fast 😉
Its really coming together Jason
I wish we could have found quite a bit more speed but I believe the ole girl was tapped out.
Maybe pull a couple degrees of timing and calm that big motor you got down.
I took it from 35 back to 32 and it did help ;)
Good luck buddy hope you make the show
Thanks Rick
If you don’t have one u need to glue rubber to one side of a washer for the top of your air cleaner
The dish in the top collects dust and it will suck it by stud
I wondered too if dust was pulling around the stud.
The cleaner nut has a groove and a big thick o ring gasket. And I grease that one too just to make sure it seals. Yes, I was VERY surprised at finding this . . .
Unfortunately I nothing to offer in the way of help, other than I’m sure you are going to get it figured out. Best of luck tomorrow night
Your advice has been great and is much appreciated Jason.
Hey Jason, guess you gotta beat the floor down behind the throttle, and put on your Dale Earnhardt face..... Just started watching this video, and hoping you make the show. There isn't a hotrod there that has more thought or effort put into it. "Do it to it!!"
We tried hard and learned a lot. This was year two for me. I am hoping by year three we have what it takes
Sometimes slower is faster,it's hard to do when you like to send it
100% agree
We run the NAPA Gold paper filters... (Wix) and we Never had the issue that you're having... yikes!
We also put tape over the front of out air filter so that dirt isn't being forced through the filter.
I was very very surprised myself and sure wasn't expecting to see the dust. I had not considered the idea of front impact causing some of the contamination but that does make sense.
@DIRTRACELIFE If you're willing, look at your air cleaner like a clock (from the cockpit)... put tape on the filter from the 10-2 position... and check your base, we've had a couple of our bases get deformed. Might be from over tightening, impacts, wear... 🤷♂️ the jury is still out on it.
Wow that's alot of dirt
Yes sir
We’ve been running the Walker Oiled Filter and using Walker Oil. Haven’t had any trouble. Most of the big crate builders recommend them, which is why we went to them.
I saw one of the big IMCA builders on a video and he recommended the Walker. He said if you don’t like your engine run a K&N. We’ve been running the Walker ever since. IMO it’s the best filter on the market.
I saw alot of the walkers. I thought they were just dry ones. I'll check into the oiled version.
I know folks that have had good luck with Baldwin PA2073 air filters. Just for more info.
I'll check them out, appreciate it!
Hope you can find the right advice or make the right adjustments to get you locked in buddy. I’m pulling for you!
These boys sure ain't playing. Some serious fast cars down here 😀
Thank You for the video. Give Em Hell we pullin for you. Ty for the tip on the air filter
Yes sir.
Your balance looked good. Just need forward bite without changing balance. 1 round in both sides of the front.
Had a couple folks saying raise the front end. I can do that.
I dont have much to offer, but from a racers eyes you looked timid on wntey early on. Last few laps you drove in and stuck it but up to then your entry lacked attack. Love what you're doing!
I really struggled to get the car to stick the entry. For sure
K&w I I used them for years washable the cost a little more but they worth it
Yeah, I brought that one just as a back up incase needed. Glad I did.
04 behind you is local to me in SC. He has the street stock and a 4cyl.
I gotta go holler at him now and say hi 😆
Looked good, good luck tonight!
Thank you sir.
Make it happen
Tryin hard 😀
10 4 what ever happens keep the fun
Don’t be to hard on yourself remember this car is just now starting to work for you.
That's true but dang I am here to get in the show. Got a goal here! Regardless we are steadily getting faster.
Drive the wheels off the car and make the A feature..It looks like ya a little tinative when ya get around other cars..just a thought..
I could be, no matter what it's always in the back of your mind that you are 6 hours from the shop and you only can do so much if you wreck the car on night one or two of a four night show. I kinda saw that too and had to turn up the heat in last night's B main.
@DIRTRACELIFE SO then did ya make the A feature ? Been in alot of those races I never actually worried about wrecking was always pretty good at looking up the track to avoid wrecks but sometimes unavoidable..Good luck go get um .
I drove one of these style metric street stocks. Back in 2002. Ump turned into outlaw Street stocks. Weight Jack's with gm rear ends. Hobbystocks dominate the Midwest as far as car counts. Do any of them run v6 anymore ?
I haven't seen a v6 since it was a thing in the modified back in the early 2000s. They were fast too.
Come to the 10k race at Carolina Speedway in the middle of September and looks like you need to tighten the racecar up seems like the car is just on top of the track.
It was, I did something about it too!
Making those turns is fine don't forget about ride height ..which I'm sure ur not hope u got some kind of seal under the nut on air cleaner..just remember new or slightly scuffed in feature and the top is where the groove will be
Yes, I turned all four to keep the ride heights the same.
The cleaner nut is the one with a big o ring that seals it up.
When you hit the wall in a qualifying race, if you hadn't tagged the wall and backed off the gas you would have been in the middle of that wreck..
Oh, geez, You are right... I kept wondering why Carl Bo kept laughing all weekend telling me I must have horseshoes hanging out my rear for luck. 😆
We always ran R2C washable filters if you can find them. Also heard Walker filter are awesome too.
I had an R2C that I completely wore out and now they are out of business. I need to check into the Walker.
@@DIRTRACELIFE Performance Bodies sells them
Wix has several micron ratings on those filters. Some of the "R" filters are quite coarse and are more for pavement racing or qualifying on tacky tracks. How did the k&N do?
I am going to check the K&N when I get back to the track. Will post back here later.
It does look like you’re not coming off as well as the other cars. Something simple as air pressure adjustments may get you faster. Where is your dirt line is in your tires? This is a way to see if your close on air pressure.
I sent you an email on the 10k SS race coming up at Carolina Speedway. It would be a better fit for you than the nationals.
I will look at wear lines when I get back to the track thanks.
I won't be able to get there. This trip kinda wiped the long haul budget for the next month or two 😢
Hey Jason we planning on going to whynot and run factory stock in a couple weeks never been to whynot what is the avg gear for factory stock at whynot thanks
Dustin, i would estimate a 615 or 620 would turn about 6500. A 633 might turn more toward 6600 or higher if you are really rolling. If you are on a crate 602 then probably no more that a 600.
@@DIRTRACELIFE thank you
That grease will cause dirt to stick to it. If it sticks to it its not going into the motor is it?
It's going to catch any dirt that was inthe air that was "in contact" with the surface. But think about this. . . what about all the air that was in the middle and went from coming through the filter to straight down the throat. That engine ate all that dirt! Sure it helps but the main thing it's doing is acting like an indicator to tell me if I have a problem. And boy oh boy did I have a problem!
Sounds like the car is spinning really easy loosen the chain up a little will help that
Spot on bud, we dropped the chain from 2 3/4 out to 3 1/2 and it did help.
I’m dying to know how Friday night went. I sure hope you found the speed you needed.
I found more every night but not yet up to this level of competition.
I feel it needs more gear so you can run the bottom
When I hooked the tires in she was turning 7200 on the top and about 6900 on the bottom.
I always thought KN filters were good
They are but I do know if you don't keep the wet with oil they will start letting some dirt through.
It's hard to adjust from day to day without being there and not knowing what the track is doing and when your going to run your B Main
Yeah Dana, I was in the first qualifier and also the B Main and both times started on a hooked up track that went to full slick as we raced. That track flips to slick fast.
Went there in 2020 and was amazed how it could go from slimy, wide open, and then slick in a heat race.
I'd say 5.88 if u don't have them ..bottom early top late ..if ur able to make it
It was better last night. Alot of the guys went with a 620 on open motors
Loosen the chain
Yep!
Looks like you are entering way to low even when you have a clear track. Having to slow down to much to get it to turn in middle. Go kick Talan and Adam willis in the butt and tell them Matt Burney sent ya!!!! Keep digging.
Lol I agree with Matt. Go kick that Willis bunch
I could not get a bite at all anywhere out in the center of the corner entry. I know your right but I could not make it work. Lacked the side bite to get it to roll in on the slick
