Whynot World Championship Street Stocks are at a Different Level
Dirt Race Life is building, setting up, and racing a hand built race car on dirt tracks but let's be honest, I love all racing including drag racing and asphalt track racing. I have a shop behind my home, I build everything myself including the chassis, gears, and engines, and I figure out the hard stuff to compete on the big stage against the very best street stocks in the nation.
I'm just your run of the mill regular dude working a regular job during the week while working hard in the shop at night and racing hard on the weekends.
Have something awesome you want us to try out or think it could help us compete. Send it to us!
And we love T-Shirts, banners, caps, koozies, etc. I love promoting dirt track racing!

    Im picking up my first race car tomorrow (9-27-24). I've never been in a race car before. it's a 100% race ready factory stock chassis with an engine built for a local class called Fireball. This is definitely helping me understand this, i know nothing, but i am trying to learn. Thank you for your videos.

    Keep diggin brother, you’ll get it! Car didn’t look like it was transferring over quick enough. Like it was too stiff, that rear end wants some separation. Get her to roll over on the right front and planted where you can put that big toe in the carburetor!!! Love the videos Jason!

    If money were no object, how much more motor will the rules allow you to have? Honestly, its hard to believe its just "setup". Are they just able to out spend you or are they just cheatin'?

      It serves me no purpose at all to complain about the modified square tube frames, how that everyone knows there will not be any tire samples taken from any race up before the final show, or the lack of jigs and templates to verify spindles are not cut and reworked, lower arm dims are right, frame suspension points are not moved, etc. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know when you don't see serious tech across the board in so many critical areas, you are competing against a very stacked deck. Regardless, I still think I am not skilled enough to make the level car I have built consistently perform how I need it to. And that is beating me whether others cheat or not. But being 100% legal in this class is DEFINITELY not helping either!

    The car looks stiff, like there's minimal transfer. Or its delayed too long, so the right side tires aren't planting when/where they need to. And I still say softer rf spring . Keep plugging at it, man. You'll get it... stay determined.

    What kind of front split are you seeing on the scales? It almost looked like the front just washed out. You could see the car traction up and take off on the throttle but the car washed out every time u got on the pump. We found out if the left front doesnt weigh at least 80 lbs more than the right front, the sumbitch just isnt going to turn. All the preload you added to the left rear took the weight away from the left front. Maybe a round out of left front and a round or 2 in the right rear would have compensated for the amount of drive you tried to add. 100 lb bite adjustment is huge!

    If you want to be fast at Whynot before it slicks off, you need to be around the rim on cushion rpms up with just a burp on the set. Look at your gear ratio and see if you're on 90% on the chip or more on entry. Look, this may sound different, but think about an unlocked diff. Sometimes, a welded or older locker stays engaged and will add to a push in the center under load exiting. Get it to lay over more on the RR and LF to RR. Oh, and tell your driver to embrace the pucker factor.

    Let me start off by saying I think you built a fine piece and you are a good smooth driver. I always ran my car a little tight and ran it off in there on the gas. And was able to pick it up quicker. But I still have yet to figure out where they are getting all that forward drive from. Good luck buddy. You will get it figured out.

    You gotta drive that car like you enjoy beating on it... corner entry, corner entry, corner entry... get the nose to turn in and use the setup to rotate the car. Ive found with our SS, in hot laps the car will shove the nose a little if we dont point the car accordingly... in our heats, our cars would be TIGHT... but not to the point where we couldnt turn but tight enough to where we'd lift the LF down the straights... sometimes in the corners depending on how he entered and used the throttle. Your car didnt look too tight for hot laps in the feature it doesnt look like the LR is hiked with the rf and rr down... I noticed you're not getting hard into the throttle until you're out of the corner... bossman, between your corner entry and you having to wait to get back into the throttle after the apex is killing the green lap momentum. Looking fwd to seeing how you did in the B-main.

    So back in the day a very famous IMCA modified National Champion told us he used 3-4 sets of brake pads and rotors a season because he was dragging the brakes to keep his car up on the bars and at attitude. Probably take some time to develop that technique, but from watching your in car videos, it seems like that may be an option to explore.

    Most street stocks in our area do not run full frame cars , They are metric front stubs and full chassis from there back with more suspension adjustments, Is that the case where you run or are all street stocks full frame?

      100% entry. He loses all of his momentum on entry due to his entry.... he needs to trust the car and drive it in bite and rotate. If it doesn't stick the front and rotate on the RR, the setup is off. Going lnto the corner off throttle, getting back in the throttle and then having to correct or baby the throttle is going backwards fast.

    My grandfather who knew Keith black, always use to put STP oil additive in the pumps before assembling it into the block.. he swore by doing it to pump that snake oil thru the bearings first on startup.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE 14 днів тому

      I don't think it would hurt anything as long as there is an oil base in the additive as well. Some good ole moly rubbed on the bearings has been a go to step for a lot of builders for many many years and will sure give it some protection during that first few seconds of fire up ;)

    Question, is it easier to set up a coil spring street stock or leaf springs? If the car came with leafs, is that what you have to run.

    • @DIRTRACELIFE
      @DIRTRACELIFE 15 днів тому

      It's a bit harder to get a leaf car setup right because you are having to work with lowering blocks and shackle lengths to get the right roll center where you can just directly change the spring length or jock height on a coil car. So it is faster to make some pretty big changes on a coil car versus a leaf car. The frame on a leaf spring based stock car is vastly different from a coil car and most rule sets for lower level divisions do not allow modifications to switch between them.
