Never understood why the makers of Dr Who didn't think to bring back the sixties Daleks more frequently. They still look great in colour, as well as in black and white. Great to see the amount of sheer hard work that went into this production too. Much appreciated. Well done. ZERINZA!
60s Daleks look even _better_ in color, imo. The blue and silver is striking, probably my favourite Dalek colour scheme.
Gosh, nothing like a little 'Making Of' to jog the memory of all the stress and excitement of production! Great coverage, Josh!
Well this fan's take is that you nailed it Josh, enjoyed this very much indeed. The Dalek voices are superb!
Best episode of Doctor Who Confidential in years! It really makes you appreciate the effort that went into making the film, and all for no money as well!
Those sets look amazing in colour, just as much as they look in glorious B+W!
Brilliant. Great BTS video. Well done everyone.
That Dalek is so authentic. That sold the project for me.
I wake up on Friday mornings at 6:30 am, two hours after these videos are uploaded. The best way to start the weekend!
I love these kind of videos to give insight on all the effort that goes into any film production. It’s such a wonderful project applause all around for everyone involved!
I think you've nailed it personally, as a fan who has watched the show since the Troughton era. Great work!!
Great to see TV-style 60's-type Daleks, whether in B&W or Colour! Such mean metallic machine-creatures! We could do with Daleks like these in the parent TV show! Congratulations to all involved, you have made a great Dr. Who film ;D Great prelude to DMP ;D
It was a great episode of Doctor Who. Thank you for it and this documentary.
I’d be fascinated to know more about that delegate story! Amazing work!!
Great behind the scenes... love seeing how it all came together. ❤You should be proud. Wonderful little prelude to The Daleks' Master Plan. Thought I'd point out that the salt lake the Time Destructor was filmed on is called Lake Walyungup and is less than 10 minutes from where I live, here in Rockingham, Western Australia. I literally drive past it every day to and from work. As soon as I saw the salt flats in the film I was like, "Hmm. That looks familiar..." 🙌😊
I thoroughly enjoyed watching The Might of the Daleks. This making of was the icing on the cake. Thank you for producing this. It is my favourite fan film.
Great to see all the hard work that went on behind the scenes. Did I spot a Star Trek TNG matte painting outside the set window? Kudos to all involved both in front of and behind the camera!
You sure did! With the turnaround, we needed to get something printed and shipped quickly so lucky I had a nice HQ scan available - a bit of photoshopping, did the job.
What a great video! Brings me back to the days of DW: Confidential on BBC 3 as a child. Loved seeing how you guys created such a great fan film and the behind the scenes, especially how quickly you all were able to do all the filming! The idea to get actual actors and not fans worked really well and made so much sense! Can't wait to see what's next :)
Josh the youngest 60s Doctor Who director
The end result was perfect.
I envy everyone's dedication and passion. That is not an easy task to get everyone into a dedicated team.
I think the key here (and it adds authenticity) is that you find performers and production crew who are used to anything, because that recreates the production line TV aesthetic of the BBC back then. Before the show acquired its 'legacy' it was simply part of a continuum with every other genre piece and survived or died on its innovations. It is we who place emphasis on it.
Really interesting to see the behind the scenes, because the film itself was incredible, captured that 60s who flavour so well, so it was fun to see how that came about. And not to knock the many talented doctor who fans out there but I think you made the right call aiming to get a cast and crew of non-fans.
Top-notch, love this to bits!
Bleeding Nora, Josh. That Dalek is wonderful.
Everyone did a great job!
The Daleks - with all respect to my childhood excitement at seeing them back from time to time - make the most sense in the 1960s. Their flaws are less obvious and (possibly due to the way in which British TV was still an offshoot of the theatre) their stories remained a hybrid of Anglo-American pop culture and the BBC need to remain 'high culture' even when it was doing 'low culture'. This instalment has captured all ends of the market by good acting and harking back to that extraordinary final episode of 'Masterplan', where the ultimate horror is played out as if it's happening live.
Thank you both for this excellent making-of documentary for an equally excellent fan film.
You ALL did an amazing job on this project! I tip my hat to the level of professionalism, skill and commitment you clearly gave
This is by far the best fan made story I've seen
What a fabulous insight. Totally reinforces my positive comments last week on the film. I really loved the focus on film making first....fans second. It totally shows on the finished product. As I stated last time, most fan films (albeit with love) are mostly fans cosplaying.Whereas you guys made a genuinely excellent and entertaining homage to Classic Doctor Who. Josh, I know you mentioned in your reply to my original comment that another film won't be for a while ( due to expense and time) but I say again....more please
This is beyond impressive!! Mad inspiring. Love this project
What a fantastic look in to the making of this little film, thank you for this glimpse behind the curtain and for all of your hard work!
Such good work, we love you Josh!
Proper 'local group video'! This was an amazing film.
perfection!
Just seeing the amount of passion and love you all had in creating this is extra special.
I never knew anything about this before!! I can't wait to watch the actual thing!
Further to other comments, perhaps it underlines the sheer pressure of trying to turn out this show at this level, with minimal resources, for much of the year. And we still criticize actors for messing up...
Just incredible. The work that was put into the project really shows, as you have created something beautiful and exciting. I have now got a craving for even more!
Superb!
doctor who is one of the coolest sci fi tv show every
and i was thinking about making my own doctor who fan film on my other channel
Bravo! Well done on this "making of"
Fantastic work 👍
Great work by All!
Great work guys… love it!
thanks awesome !!!!
Inspiring
In love with this.
Just curious 😅 Did you have any difficulty with colours looking strange in Black and White? Or did you test different colours to see what would look best?
The blue walls were a bit too dark, that they ended up looking black!
@@JoshSnares Yeah, the walls came out a lot darker than we expected. Our original colour was a little lighter but when it was mixed for a lower quality paint, it didn't quite match.
10:22 jeez wonder how the older actor felt about that one. Must have stung "OK, so you're old and you're going to turn to dust".
Was it intentional to make the window similar to the second version of the Tardis key? Looks great btw.
Nah, it was supposed to be an abstract version of a nuclear weapon going off. But that’s a fun reference!
I love the excitement when he says "Who knew the end of the world could get worse!"
I suspect this project will be one of the best contributions to Doctor Who in its 60th year. C'mon Disney and BBC, send Josh and the team the funds to reshoot Dalek Masterplan. I'm sure David Bradley will be up for it.
Never mind found it. Cool.
yay
I JUST WATCHED YOU IN AN EXCELLENT EPISODE OF UNEXPLAINED ABOUT THE FLATWOODS MONSTER, AND NOW I FIND YOU LOVE DR. WHO, FANTASTIC I'M SUBSCRIBING TO YOU!@!GARY BAILEY KING OF DARKNESS
where can I watch the whole thing?
Out of interest, whilst I know you wanted to match the original 60s aesthetic, will this be released in colour too at some point?
Be interesting to see.
But of course not essential.
The set designer keeps asking for a colour version! It will happen one day, as a curiosity, but not my intention! :)
@@JoshSnares Fair enough.
Your creative vision.
Maybe you could add a grainy film filter to a colour version and pretend it was a recently discovered 8mm film the Director took for reference. 😁
@@JoshSnares He brings it up daily... 🤣
Give Doctor Who to young Australians for a few years!
