I love how totally inaccurate the "Daleks can't see red" thing is now. Imagine the Paradigm Daleks not being able to see their basic troops!

They’re charmingly creative facts. I’d love to see a Dalek going at 2000mph, wonder if any of these facts will come up in canon in the future.

    • @ekij133
      @ekij133 Рік тому +8

The top speed of any transport is limited by engine power, fuel and friction with the environment.
2000mph is relatively easy to achieve in space. At near sea-level on Earth it would produce a huge shock and superheated compressed air wave.

My attempts at rationalising these with the canon..
The Dalek craft that crashed in Egypt could've been a recon scout that was not as lucky as the one who landed in prehistoric Britain.
As for the Yeti, certain Dalek mutants, like Sec, are shown to be able to entirely absorb and merge their DNA with a human, it is feasible therefore that they could do this with other creatures in a desperate bid for survival, perhaps something suited to the cold like a polar bear..
Daleks not sleeping would explain why they are always so angry. I sympathise.
Their inability to perceive certain colours is stated as a limitation of the mutant that is remedied by the eyestalk which seems entirely feasible given how irradiated they were.
And I imagine the 2,000mph Dalek top speed is something achievable only whilst flying as it would make them comparably as fast as the fastest jet aircraft, the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

Probably everyone else got this immediately but it took me a couple of minutes: the measles reference is probably a playful joke referring to the "spots" on dalek skirts: as in, you're getting a "Dalek disease" and developing Dalek bumps all over.

Funny about some of those facts: The one about the Pyramid of Giza could conceivably be reconciled with _The Daleks' Master Plan_ because even though they land there in time machine and not a crashed spaceship, the Red Dalek in the novelisation is entombed in the completed pyramid after it is immobilised and buried.
The _Remembrance of the Daleks_ novelisation also has the Imperial Daleks whizzing about the streets of London at great speeds just before they battle the Renegade Daleks.
Funny how they can't see red as well because Red Daleks were inserted into the novelisations of "Master Plan" and "Evil" even though the corresponding Daleks on TV were just ordinary silver.

    • @darkapostle1749

Wasn't the Saucer Commander like silver and red?
I also find it a tad ironic that they can't see red, but (later on) there would be at least two red Dalek Supremes.

My theory is that Dalekanium, beskar and vibrinium are the same material with different names. They're all incredibly valuable metals and are the strongest materials in each respective universe. It's dumb, but would mean that a lightsaber couldn't cute through a Dalek, and Thor's hammer would create a giant wave of energy of whacked against a Dalek

"City of the Daleks", a comic in _The Dalek Book_ preceding this one, claims the Daleks came up with Einstein's theories and invented the Wright Brothers' flyer while the Dalek Emperor wrote the complete works of Shakespeare!
Plus, the Emperor had a larger casing built for him which apparently allowed him to read minds.
There's another feature in one of Terry Nation's Dalek Annuals. I think it's called "Intercept"? Anyway, it posits that secret Dalek activity and experiments are responsible for all sorts of real-world phenomena and disasters, like the Nemesis Statue. It's another goldmine for facts like this.
Heck, even as recent as a decade ago, "The Dalek Project" suggested the Daleks started WWI by conditioning Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Ferdinand! Though to be fair, the story never reveals if that happened for definite.

well that would make a funny scene. daleks painting themselves red because they believe they would then be invisible only to be easily shot down as soon as they go outside because the red just makes them stand out only for them to ask. "how did they know we were there?"

When I was at school in the early 1970s I remember someone having a Dalek book that informed us, among other things, that J was the forbidden letter of the Daleks. Also, the dome lights (somehow) enabled the Daleks to keep their temper in check.
At the time I wrote an epic poem (by 10 year old standard) which included a scene in which the TARDIS crew managed to smash the lights and chanted "J-J-J." The Dalek got so angry it blew its top, enabling the TARDIS crew to escape.
But I have to wonder how the Daleks coped with Jamie, Jo, Sarah Jane, Tegan Jovanka and other characters with a J in their name!
