I discovered The Moody Blues in the 80s, but it was their core seven albums (from Days of Future past in 1967 through Seventh Sojourn in 1972) that touched my soul in ways you describe this song touched you. They've got great songs beyond these also, but these seven are my favorite. "Question" is powerful, as are "Dawning is the Day," "The Actor," "The Story in Your Eyes," and others. I hope you go at least a little way down this rabbit hole! Thank you for this!

When Justin Hayward played this for the guys in the group, they were rather "blah" about it, until the keyboard player, Mike Pinder, asked him to play it again. It was Pinder who added the melodic background that helped so much. My favorite Moody song will always be "The Actor." I hope that you will listen to it someday, Sarah.

I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's - 80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" & "Your Wildest Dreams". But all of their music is great.

There's a reason why the Blues need a full orchestra as their backup. Between them, they can play 35 different instruments. So when they were recording, they could make the full orchestra sound. These are some of the most talented musicians you will ever hear. And yes, you just listened to a masterpiece.

One thing missing from the live recording was the poem 'Late Lament'...it was written by the drummer and read over the symphonic section at the end. Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version...the poem will have you weeping yet again, and adds SO much to the song. Great video!

Not everyone is affected to your level, but most people react (particularly women in my opinion) in a wondrous way and it almost never fails to bring their inner beauty directly out to be displayed on their visage. I have not seen a woman that I can recall that was not at her most beautiful when engaging with a magnificent piece of music. If that makes any sense LOL I subscribed, I need to see you react to more music.

I've heard this song performed live with the full rock band plus symphony orchestra (this video was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in, I think, about 2002), just the rock band, and Justin on acoustic guitar with just one or two backing musicians. It's just as good any way he performs it. He's sung this song at every performance since, let's see, about 1967, and he sings it with just as much passion nowadays as he did all those years ago (and he usually gets about a 5-minute standing ovation). He is truly one of the greatest artists of the 20th (and now 21st) century.

I have read that Justin Hayward (the singer) wrote this song while he was still in his late teens, if you can imagine that!! No matter how many or how few of their songs you choose to react to please be sure "Question" is on that list! And if you don't mind a few more suggestions (unless you have reacted to them already) please consider: "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" by Danish Symphony Orchestra, "My Immortal" by Evanescence, "Hi De Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears and from a live version from the late 1970's, "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull!

Like you, when I first heard it way back in 68' I fell immediately in love with it. 53 years later it only gets better each time I hear it. It fills me with joy to see young people discovering this immortal music and these extraordinary musicians and basking in the glory of their creativity. The concert DVD this was taken from "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" with the World Festival Orchestra is magnificent and is as close to perfection as you can get, extraordinary, for future listening from the same concert I recommend "Tuesday Afternoon" ua-cam.com/video/07IxIiqvx80/v-deo.html , "Question" ua-cam.com/video/tmOZFAYeurY/v-deo.html and "I know you're out there somewhere" ua-cam.com/video/a97d5bUCFVQ/v-deo.html enjoy the journey!
