This song is a true gem of rock history. When first released in 1967, of course without orchestra, it was a beautiful song from Procol Harum. This was a couple years after I graduated from high school, but I fondly remember it. I listen to it often. I found this on UA-cam several years ago and listen often. One of the most amazing songs ever writen. As mentioned before his voice has hardly changed as all. I can see you are enjoying it also. Thanks for bringing it back one more time. I'm sure the orchestra enjoyed playing it also.
@@natureandwhateversuitsmyli4411 The original version was released on their debut album, the first live version was released with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in 1972, this version is with the Danish Symphony Orchestra in 2006
In my opinion, this is the best live performance of any song EVER. The original studio recording is a masterpiece but this particular live performance elevates it to another stratosphere. No other way to describe it.
If there has ever been a better live performance of a classic rock anthem I am not aware. Heart’s rendition of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven was close. This one still takes it to another level. RIP Garry.
This song is pure beauty, it’s been moving me to tears for 50+ years. This version is even more powerful than the original. Sometimes if and when the stars align it’s possible to create perfection. This performance was such a singular moment. I’m grateful for having been blessed with the experience. TY
this must be the best live performance ever , absolutely Beautiful, everything just falls in to place , the orchestra fits in and the choir both make it feel as though they belong to this masterpiece of a song how lucky are we that this beautiful performance took place before Gary passed away, i think he left us with the best ever version of this wonderful song RIP Gary Brooker , let the Angels enjoy ,
Nice reaction. I am 65 years old and this version of this song has become my favorite song of all time. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes. We all read the emotion on your face. That was the power of this masterpiece.
Real music performed by real artists is what this song is. A real performer will take you on a journey and bring you back. I am so glad you enjoyed the song it really is the best version of this song. I saw them live twice in the late 70s and the shows were awesome.
This is a fitting epitaph for Gary Brooker who died recently of cancer. I always thought it ironic that this beautiful, emotional music was pretty much the opposite of what was implied in Keith Reids brilliant lyrics! Thats probably why they were such a great band! I love your heartfelt reaction to this song, and have shed tears over it just like you for decades!
My favorite song of all time. The sound of that Hammond organ with full orchestral backing is just Devine. Thank you Sarah for not talking over it like many others do. Loved your comments and I'm glad it still has a magical effect on young people today as it did on me when I was young.

In 1967 I was on an all-expenses paid trip to S-E Asia, courtesy of Uncle Sam... this was played on the ship's speakers on the way there. Invoking memories.
Hey, Sarah! This song is still incredibly powerful after all these years. It was released in 1967, the year I graduated from high school. It has been one of my favorites ever since. The most amazing thing to me is how little Gary Brooker's voice has changed. At your leisure, find the original recording and compare it to this performance from 15 years ago. Still eagerly awaiting your reactions! You rock!
I'm 65 now and lucky. I grew up with this music and other great bands like Procol Harum. Happy a young person has discovered it. Please look for moe. I promise you it will be worth it.
We will miss you Mr. Brooker. Sarah, all first time listeners to this 1967 classic have just been ‘schooled’ to what the roots of rock, blues, jazz, big band, folk and country produced their fruits in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. There are so many more pioneers from that era, too many to mention, but keep searching and you will be captured by the lyrics, melodies, guitar riffs and more. This is probably my favorite version of the song I used to listen to on my round Panisonic AM radio. Remember back then, Dolby, surround sound and stereo were dreams but in R&D, as was FM radio. Curtis-Mathis was the best (price for a blue collar family) console one could buy with a B&W tv and a turn table to play 45’s and albums. How times have changed. Those of us out there remember when tv had only 4 or 5 channels that signed off at midnight and was just ‘snow’. BUT radio was on all night and forever.
I clicked on this video and I’m so grateful that you kept quiet throughout this masterful performance. I’m so wary of reviews of this specific live set as half wits constantly chirping and interrupting it completely ruins it.
I was around when this song came out and for me, I never really understood the lyrics but the melody was just very soothing and this live version was better than the recording that came out as is most music for me. Live music is never the same and therefore more personal, but especially seeing it live. This is a classic.
