    Keep in mind that this is just our "first drive" review -- which means we only got to spend a couple of hours with the car, under supervision. We'll have a full review of the car soon, after we get to spend some more time with it on our own.

    I loved the look of this gen Altima when it first came out & it still looks better in my eyes than the current 2021 model. Drove a 2007 Altima 2.5 S for 4 years . I test drove a 2013 3.5 SV once & I loved how it drove, the V6 sounded great & the seats were very comfy, but I ended up eventually buying a new 2015 Camry XSE V6 which I'm glad I did partly cause I've heard many problems reported with these cars especially the CVT which had to be replaced at one point on my 07.

    My parents just got the new Altima SL fully loaded and i have Infiniti G37. I am extreemly impressed with the altima. for a car thats a little more than $10,000 cheaper there are a few options that my infiniti doesnt have. like a heated steering wheel, blind spot monitor, and lane departure warning. None of those options are available on my car. Great car for the value!

  • @AutoTrader

    If anything, the CVT keeps the engine noise down b/c it's not revving so high. When you stomp gas on the 4, there is noticeable engine noise. The problem with the CVT is that some people just don't like the feel. You're right, this is an Altima with the 3.5L V6. The 4 gets that 38 mpg rating thanks to the CVT keeping rpms low on the highway.

    Depends a lot on your personal preference. Leather is more likely to be hot in summer and cold in winter when you first get in. But leather is also likely to be more durable over time. Cloth seats can be easier to tear or stain. If you regularly carry kids or pets in the car, we recommend leather.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Nissan gives you two choices: tan (like in our video) or black. They come in either cloth or leather, depending on which trim level you choose. There are a few exterior colors which limit your choice of interior color to just one. There are custom shops that would re-do the whole interior, but it would likely be prohibitively expensive.

    Nissan offers a choice of fuel-efficient 4-cylinder or sporty V6 engines in the 2013 Altima. There are 4-cylinder engine options for most popular midsize sedans, like the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. In fact, Kia and Hyundai only offer 4-cylinder engines in the latest version of their Optima and Sonata sedans. Both offer an optional turbocharged 4-cylinder with similar horsepower to their V6 competitors, but better fuel economy.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    The 2013 Nissan Altima starts at $21,500 for the base model. At the other end of the range, the 4-cylinder powered 2.5 SL like in our video starts at $28,050. The top-of-the-line V6-powered 3.5 SL starts at $30,080. The SL models come pretty much loaded except for an optional Technology package for $1,090. That includes a 7-inch touchscreen with navigation, and cool safety tech like blind-spot and lane-departure warning systems.

    Wow -- great question. First of all, sorry about your Passat. We hope everyone is ok. We defer to Brian on this since he's the only one who's driven the new Altima so far. He says he likes them both, but the new Altima feels a little more luxurious. We all like the new Passat a lot, especially with that smooth V6. Since you're already familiar with the Passat, we say take the new Altima for a test drive and see what you think.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Nissan hasn't released any info on an SE-R version yet, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one come out soon -- maybe sometime next year as a 2014 model. So far there's also no word on the fate of the Altima coupe -- the redesign currently only covers the sedan.

    This guy is great and a great car reviewer. I watched him for years on other car review networks. This was also a great proper review. I am glad autotrader listened and have hopefully gotten rid of those other cook cutter non car ppl they had before! Great job guys keep it up!

    The Altima and Accord are very similar. The Altima comes off a little more luxurious than the Accord, but both are very good. The Accord Sport is an especially great value.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Not yet, but there may be some early test models floating around (particularly if you live near Nissan's US headquarters in Nashville, Tenn.). It's expected to begin arriving in dealerships early this summer.

  • @AutoTrader

    The Malibu is a mid-sized sedan from Chevrolet, similar to the Altima. It's also been completely redesigned for 2013.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  11 років тому

    Overall, Altima. However, the Accord is better for someone who wants and little more sport and at $24,000 the Accord Sport sedan is a great deal. Also, no manual transmission in the Altima.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Your mileage may very, but in our experience leather holds up better to kids and pets. It's easier to clean up and less likely to get stains or tears. Why do you prefer cloth?

    Our editor, Brian Moody, just drove the all-new 2013 Honda Accord this week. We'll be posting our first drive video of that very soon. We think you're right that the competition in this class is getting very impressive.

    what a beautiful car.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Actually, that's not really true any more. While the Altima was closer in size to the Corolla before 2001, after 2002 the Altima grew into a midsize car. The wheelbase of the 2012 Altima is exactly the same as on the 2012 Camry, and headroom and legroom are within a couple of inches (no official stats yet, but the 2013 Altima is a bit roomier than the outgoing model). The Maxima is now more comparable in size and price to the larger Toyota Avalon.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    We think you may just be seeing things. ;-) The Altima has projector headlights and LED taillights, but Brian doesn't recall seeing LED daytime running lights -- and we can't find any mention of them in the info we received -- or anywhere else.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    The Accord gets a new look for 2013. We have a review for it already up. It doesn't look dramatically different but it does look a little fresher and more contemporary.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    Depends on the budget - if a super low price is important, I'd get the Dart Rallye with the turbo engine and manual transmission. Although bigger and more expensive, I'd also consider the new Camry SE V6 or the Altima 3.5 SL.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    That's right -- the Sentra is Nissan's compact competitor to the Corolla and Civic. You're right that Honda doesn't have anything exactly on par with the Avalon and Maxima -- although the Crosstour sort of fits the bill for being bigger and nicer (and more expensive).

  • @jvrdlc
    @jvrdlc 12 років тому

    ill take this over the Sonata and Camry right now
    but i still have to wait and see how the new Fusion and Accord would drive and look

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  11 років тому

    The new Accord and new Altima feel very similar. Depending on the trim level you get, the Accord comes off as a little sportier - tighter and firmer. The Altima does a good job of balancing firm/sport and comfort but (the V6 especially) leans toward the comfort side of things. Also, the Accord's steering feels a little quicker - not everyone will like that. We're hoping for an Altima SE-R.

  • @AutoTrader
    @AutoTrader  12 років тому

    That's a really tough question - the Dart is smaller and will likely be one of the best compact sedans in the US. The Altima is bigger, nicer interior and more features - it's also much more expensive.

  • @adamY2K
    @adamY2K 12 років тому

    Once the new Accord comes out, the Altima, Camry and Accord will once again be the top in the segment. Kia and Hyundai look flashy right now but watch in 5 years the design will look horrible. The Japanese may always look slightly bland, but they are never ugly, just clean and simple with designs that will still look decent 10 years from now, such as the 2003 acura tsx

  • @AutoTrader

    The Dart is a smaller car than the Altima. It's better to compare the Dart to the Chevy Cruze, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, Kia Forte, Hyundai Elantra, and of course, the Nissan Sentra.

    Haha I thought so, just wanted to make sure. You know those clear lenses above the fog lights? To the corner of those lenses it seems as if there were small white LED's. Pause at exactly 0:17. Not significantly bright but more like courtesy lights probably?

  • @tinian33

    I took a test drive in the new Accord and was not impressed at all. The interior seem seem rather cheap in the base model , so the Altima definitely come out ahead in that category. As far as the driving experience is concerned, the Altima is more enjoyable to drive - the Accord feels like an older person sedan in my opinion.

  • @Bmants
    @Bmants 12 років тому

    Maybe, but I know the Camry is not better than this car and from what I have seen of the new Accord, it certainly does not look any better. But I have no data on the new Accord. I dont think one can go wrong with this Altima, only the upcoming Mazda and Fusion would have me waiting to make a final decision. This is an incredible class of cars, I think they are all at least very good.

    IMO Nissan took a step back in the exterior design for this new Altima, just when I was like...yes! they finally designed an Altima that looks good, they hurried and made these not so subtle "improvements". They added more chrome and tacked some "fat" back onto the car to give it this not so appealing new Maxima appearance. I have no qualms with the interior, save for the chunky steering. I tend to favor the "fat free" Japanese designs of yesteryear, i.e 2003 Acura TSX = fat free Accord.

    Based upon Consumer Reports recommendations, leather is not a great buy and its durability is not better, cracking etc., according to CR. I am not against leather, it just makes no difference to me so why should I pay extra for it, I just need a comfortable seat. No kids, no pets by the way. One more thing, cloth is not as hot on a warm day, nor as cold in winter.
