R.I.P. Bill. God's blessings to your family. We'll miss you knowledge and presentation. I hope Mikey will be able to step in to keep teaching us all ❤😢❤
Those connectors are made by 3M. They are called scotchloks. They are available dry or gel filled. You don't have to strip off the wire insulation either as long as the wire size is in the correct guage range. I don't know if they are OK to use on stranded wire though. At the phone company, we only use them on solid wire, not stranded. They also make a tool to crimp them. Looks like pliers with a notched jaw.
Always use environmental splices, and splice in new wire after the wire with the corrosion in it is all removed. If you don't have Environmental Splices you can make one. Cut the bad spot out and slide on some heat shrink over the wire. Cut the wire insulation back 1/16" on both ends. Put the two 1/16" wires into each other, flatten them, then solder them. Clean them with Isoprophyl Alcohol and an acid brush cut half way down. Slide the heat shrink over the soldered joint and put a little piece of glue stick in the heat shrink on each end. Heat it until it shrinks all the way the the glue stick comes out. It works extremely well and turns regular heat shrink into an environmental splice. As a certified and trained wiring Technician in the U.S. Navy, I've done this for years on U.S. Navy Aircraft with NO issues. If the wire break is in an area that bends a lot, replace the wire in that area by splicing a wire using the same method in that area and move the now two joints to an area that doesn't bend. Best Wishes & Blessings. Keith Noneya
Great find Mikey!!! That’s been happening for years. Work for dealership here. They never use floor mats on a base interior. Matted floors are terrible for keeping dirt out of the harness ditch. The problem, It’ll never go away on these work trucks. Drivers aren’t cleaning ANYTHING let alone vacuuming out the dirt. Should have Soldered the wire or use a splice with shrink seal heat shrink. Splice connectors can be acquired from Ford dealer.
When I clean my f250 I usually pull that trim pice. When I worked at ford in Kansas we had issues like this from the trucks used on farms. Our detail guy would always pull those and clean that when he would detail the pick ups.
Excellent work finding that 👍👍. I still am a big fan of soldering in a repair section of wire, with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing over the solder repair. That tubing shrinks and the adhesive sealant squishes out each end of the repair, that is going to be a repair equal to the wire itself or better and still not much larger in size for compact areas. Man, these current modern pickups aren't going to be worth a crap when they hit 15+ years old unfortunately. 10+ cameras on a single vehicle, AC in the seats, etc etc give me a break. More wiring than the first space shuttle had
I've owned, run, and rebuilt marine diesels since 1960. Except for my 7.3, all my engines in my vessels are mechanical. Only the electric starter needs power. Some start with air or hydraulics. My engines will continue to run, even with problems, including a blown rod, once blocked out of the way. On the ocean, you don't pull to the curb and wait for a tow truck. All of the diesels in my lifetime are less trouble than my 7.3. I just finished installing a new 7.3 engine wiring harness. It made a huge difference. But I never had to do that on a marine diesel. The EPA has ruined the reliability of the diesel engine. I wish they could figure out that it doesn't matter how clean the engine burns or how great the economy is if the engine doesn't run. I will say, when running, the 7.3 is the strongest engine I've had in a truck and the most unreliable. If I was a young man, I'd put a Detroit in my truck.
I’ve into very similar issues on the 2011-up Super Duty’s. The last one I had was a no start and occasionally it would start and when it did the transmission was in limp mode. There were lots of U codes that didn’t seem to make much sense. I pulled the still plate just for a quick inspection and found the wiring harness was completely full of dirt and salt from peoples feet. After doing the tug test, I found a twisted pair wire that was green and it pulled in half with ease. After fixing that the truck worked perfectly.
My 1999 7.3 cab lights leaked water down the pillar to the fuse box and gem module. For years I had craziest electric issues until one night pouring rain the truck started itself with alarm set. Pulled batter cables still ran put key in ignition and nothing, put it in gear and it drove with no key on and no dash on. No electrics would work. Started pulling fuses till it shut off. New roof fuse box gem Module computer dash cluster all needed to be replaced. All had green corrosion.
Great info guys 👍Back in the 80s a gentleman from the phone company taught me about those and they called them Johnny snaps way back when. Always have a box of them in my shop for around the house..
Great video as usual. For those of us who like to keep this from happening, what about shrink wrapping the wires before any of this happens as well as drilling a couple of holes in the rocker. Would this help keep, this from happening?
Just checked my 2018 and found the harness cut into with a GPS tracker installed. The wires they tapped into were corroded luckily so it was not working.
Mine filled up with spilled milk. I had to drill a few drain holes after washing it out to get it to dry. In the AG industry it gets dirty but is cleaned only with a shop vac and air.
3M bell cap, die grease, heat shrink and some super glue… Fill the bell cap with grease, make your crimp/connection then fill the rest of the bell with super glue or even hot glue then heat shrink over the whole thing.
Great work as always. You fixed my 6.0 (dealer proof) and really appreciated it. Started having dead batteries after not running for 3-5 days. Then the starter went bad....... After I personally replaced the starter, the battery drain issue went away. Ever experience this?
Low battery voltage drives the current up in the starter (or anything else) which will burn the windings. Batteries need to be up to voltage with the battery plates in tact to supply the current. I'm not an auto technician but electrical/ instrument journeyman. Bill and Mike are geniuses with years of experiencd. They've seen it all. No BS on this channel. Idiot lights are just that, need "accurate" gages to keep an eye on vitals & save big bucks on repairs before they happen. Never let electrical problems go unchecked. I dielectric grease all my connectors as most are very low voltage to & from sensors. Good hunting.
YAY someone got my joke. If yo watched TV 40 years ago they had these really odd commercials come on about things like playing with fire etc. And they always ended with "CONSUMER INFORMATION CATALOG, PUEBLO COLORADO 81009. As a kid I came to the conclusion that folks in Pueblo Co really had their act together.
I have an F150 work truck and used to drain the cooler behind the seat and it filled up the rocker it's water , drains ended up getting clogged , fortunately nobody has ever sat henhind the front seats so no mud
Warranty... Back in my Day, Dad always gave a 90/90 Warranty. 90 feet or 90 seconds :) Also a 50/50 warranty, it it breaks in half, you still own both halfs :)
SEND PICTURES TO BILL@POWERSTROKEHELP.COM I need a pic of the door jamb sticker and the odometer. Truck has to be zero rust. I find a home for it for you
@@powerstrokehelpWe are in Utah so with the snow there will be a small amount but nothing serious or on the body, it has been in a garage it's whole life just used for towing. I have a video short of the odometer but I can get the rest. Thank you
"Some fancy....creature comfort bullshit gimmick" is the best way to describe all new vehicles.
Yeah, and all cost more to repair. Lol.
Rest in piece Bill. Watching Mikeys face light up talking to Bill is nice, feel bad for him and rest of the team/family affected.
Rest in Peace Bill, it was a pleasure to meet you in 2017.

Wow fantastic advice! I didn’t know about the glue. I’m going to screen shot this.

Announcement from Pueblo, Colorado. Bill just showed his age. Under 50 will not likely get that reference.
daily thing up in Canada with all trucks, always fun lol

This is why I happily pay guys like Mikey to fix (or at least maintain) my truck!

we need to setup a "buy mikey a drink" account...! LOL strong work
Oh Hell No. Mikee NEVER show up for work.
Im amazed you didnt pushed to use archoil to improve electrical connection in this bideo hahaha
no sir Archoil would not help in this situation. I push the product because it works.
Had a problem with water sitting in the channel on my 7.3. Drilled a couple holes. Thats my fix lol

Mikey and Bill videos are the best.
7:44 @powerstrokehelp those connectors are called scotchlok made by corning. Great job men, as you were!
Man I wish you were closer to me. I have a 6.0 and would love to have a decent shop to work on it.
Just checked my 2018 and found the harness cut into with a GPS tracker installed. The wires they tapped into were corroded luckily so it was not working.
I drill holes in the rocker pockets. And yes i treat the hole with overrust.
RIP Mr. Hewitt
prolly shoulda cleaned before the repair. Thanks for all your help. 01 Godzilla truck.

The real question is: Did you cry when you spilt the milk?
3M bell cap, die grease, heat shrink and some super glue…
Fill the bell cap with grease, make your crimp/connection then fill the rest of the bell with super glue or even hot glue then heat shrink over the whole thing.

Good find. Why not solder it with a heat shrink?

Not my truck but I live in Pueblo CO so thanks for the shout out guys and thanks for the correct pronunciation too

@powerstrokehelp I never got to see those but I been told about them
Story of my life with logging crummys up in Canada, even worse with cork boots lol

UR connectors generally for solid conductor splicing but will work on stranded. Found on every phone technician truck…
Thank You, Men ! F350 1999 7.3 From New Thank You For ALL The Help..!!! Over The Years ...Take Care All The Best To You & ALL !

Mike tell ur boss to spend some money, on lighting
Cheap SOB is too lazy to fetch the lights he already has.
bill and mike, noticed there is holes in the floor mat on this truck. guarantee wet boots and mud had something to do with this one!
👍
Wiring must be a common issue there to keep it unbraided. I wouldn't water down the interior like you say it's a short cut.
I’m from Pueblo
I only have speaker wires on my 06 6.0 .
Chasing ghosts
Hours on engine question, I have 06 avalanche,159k miles, about 8000 hours, is this about right? Thank you, gas engine, about 75% in town driving.
Bill: what is going on with th diesel trucks in the truck pulling contest that put out so much black coal when their pulling the sled?
Got a 2003 7.3 ex cab FX4 with 50K original miles.
What would you say that truck is worth in today's market?

I wouldn't fix it. Sell them a new truck. Anyone who destroys there own truck like that is someone you don't want in your shop.
Also I remove the cover and clean it out several times a year myself
people work in the dirt. It is what it is. Ranchers are the best. There is a little more country smell in those trucks.
I REALLY NEED YOU GUYS TO DIAL IN MY PROJECT.... I SENT BILL A EMAIL PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT IT AS WELL MIKE IF POSSIBLE
WTF hank bro... i glad to see you on here... commenting big fan.... so sad bill passed away man... much love hank 3
