Thank you very much... I just had the #1 injector go in an 06/F250/180K. While my mechanic was in there he changed out all four on that bank. A little extra money but better than having to go back in later... And a BIG ArchOil user here. My truck got a case of Stiction in 2014 after coming back from a long trip. After I changed the oil and put in the ArchOil within one tank of fuel the problem was gone and has never come back.
Bill, great video it has top notch advise. I have two '04 f350s with 6.0s. A std cab with 3:73 gears and a 4dr dually with 4:10 gears. Both trucks have head studs and wicked wheel2 impellors. I bought tuners for both trucks because I was told I'd get better milage. I didn't get better milage I got the same with a lot more power. I found I'm happy with the economy tune and get 21 mpg highway at 80-85mph with the std cab. I love that 6.0, it's the reason I bought the dually. I think the 6.0 is the best bang for the buck and the cure for the 6.4 blues is a Cummins repower. Your videos are honest and the best powerstroke info on UA-cam. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a truck from you. Just wish I had found your channel before I bought the dually.
Hi, I watched a bunch of your videos today. I’m really impressed. You are a wealth of knowledge and do a great job at explaining everything. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing i have 2 2004 6.0 power stroke trucks . We change the oil 2 times a year. I love these trucks One is a f350 dual cab the other is E350 box. Your video’s are truly helpful!
Thanks for your "honesty" in your evaluation. It is so much appreciated in today's world of dishonesty by money-hungry mechanics taking short-cuts and calling themselves servants of the public, which are actually no better than politicians. Again, many thanks for "pure truthfulness"!!!!!
Yep, always crank the engine over and listen!! Especially if someone is selling it saying it just needs an injector! It amazes me that so many shops throw parts at engines with compression issues. That's pathetic.
Just because one of these engines turns over a little uneven doesn’t mean it has an engine issue. It can be a valve it can be an injector seal. These guys seem to think the only way to test an injector is the buzz test lol
A little smoke coming out of the oil cap spout is normal. Don't let this video scare you into getting a new motor. Excess means a lot of smoke and with force. A little with low pressure is totally normal.
@@upurnose46 not true, it'll shit on you anyway. I've personally witnessed dozens of 6.4 failures on stock tunes, both deleted and not. It's a throwaway motor when it's done, and your out the chassis.
@Religion LOL Yeah, it is. There's a reason why Bill doesn't even work on them anymore. I know a few people that they crapped out on right after the warranty was up. The DPF and EGR aren't the only problems. It's a horribly designed motor.
I had a 2010 6.4 nicest truck I ever owned. Deleted EGR and DPF but even with that it still failed on me. 100k miles front cover went bad and was cracked . 120k rocker arm broke had to change all rocker arms and pushrods. And at 160k HPFP went after that I got rid of it and bought a 2000 f350 7.3 and never looked back.
The 6.0 issue could also be a torn injector o-ring as well,I've ran into that on more than one occasion, the 6.4 issue could also be a cracked or unseated injector line under the valve cover,I have also run into that problem to,so it's not always a piston or cylinder issue
Bruce Lee yes. However if the person who owned this truck took care of the thing it would be fine. Or if you didn't take care of your truck it would be in terrible shape.
I have to give a HUGE SHOUT-OUT to Bill and to Archoil !!! Last summer, my son bought a 2005 F-350 / 6.0L. We replaced the engine with a high quality reman long block from Ashville engines, ARP studded and o-ringed heads, upgraded rods & bearings, etc., did the whole genuine BulletProof Diesel setup with cold weather kit, billet water pump, blue spring kit, new glow plugs, all the fuel and trans filters, SCT, the whole 9-yards. The previous owner did the whole 6.0L fugazi (oil cooler, EGR, turbo, up-pipes, OEM reman injectors, HPOP, FICM, 5" exhaust, etc.) and threw in the towel when he blew a head gasket. Truck ran great until we had the cold snap here in northern Hellinois last week. On Monday it started throwing the P0278 code on #8 and the P1000. I thought I remembered this video and dug it up, and damned if it wasn't the exact same thing!!! Taking a shot, I immediately ordered the Archoil P-1 performance kit and got it today. He's been freaking out all week thinking he was going to go deeper in for a set of injectors, labor, and downtime. I was cautiously optimistic. He put it in after work today and drove it 10-miles home, and I'll be damned, he called me and said it was back to running normal!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I told him to drive it another 50+ miles to make sure it works everything out. Codes are cleared and have not come back yet. THANK YOU BILL & ARCHOIL!!! You guys are engine savers and this experience made a believer out of me!!! I'm ordering another kit for my 6-weeks new 2019 F-450 with the 6.7L!!! ...Almost forgot, the calendar is pretty cool too!!!
I Bought a 6.4 before I knew about your channel after that I stumbled on p.s.h. .com and got scarred my truck was gonna blow up before I could save up the money for a delete kit . I boght the 08 with just over 50k and deleted it at 60k after a few towing trips over our washington state steeper passes where it would regen while I was pulling hard the heat had to be enormous in that exuast stream. I have installed the delete kit and an oil and coolant bypass filter and tuned .really watch my exhaust gas Temps when towing my rv now .I've put another 50k on truck since with no issues . I love the truck and the power but always a little wary of the 6.4 .I never had a vehicle that I did maintenance on as much as this thing .
I have a 2002 f250 7.3. It will surge/sputter when you get on it a little bit. (Like fall on its face then pick back up) not sure if its the cam sensor or injector or what. If you could give a little advice it would be greatly appreciated
Man, this video just broke my heart. My 6.0 has a skip from overheating one time and I just pulled the cap off and saw the blow back. It's not as severe as the 2 trucks in this video, but its still there. This hurts big time. That truck is my heart, and I hate I did that to her.

95 7.3 diesel 420,000 engine starts turns off when restarting again will start with a long crank I was told oil pressure problems could be something else
Thank you for all your help and support I have a 7.3 2003 excursion and I would like to find that computer program to test my engine it has been running great for the 3 years I have had it but one morning I went to start it and it would not at about ,35 degrees F , I plugged in heater block then it started would idle a little rough till warmed up then ran fine all day, I saw video about testing glow plug relay and mine had a module instead, I replace it and no more starting problems but even at 65 in the morning I start it up it will run rough and slugish for about 15 minutes once warmed up it's fine any ideas would be greatly appreciated if you am up to 400,000 miles now I bought it from previous original owner 300,000 miles
My truck runs great...no smoke from tail pipe has good power and motor really smooth....I pulled my oil fill cap and have a little bit of smoke.mjot quite as much as in this video but it's definitely there...and yes it's the dreaded 6.4....does this mean I'm screwed? It runs really good
I'm new to diesel bought it used....it doesn't skip like that one. The engine runs extremely smooth . I would have never even looked had it not been for this video because of no indication that the engine is having any issue...no smoke from tail pipe, no coolant lose or bubbling in bottle, no climbing oil level...nothing absolutely nothing...then I pop that cap and I see smoke coming from it...can't really feel it with my hand but I can see it
Bill, Every video has helped me so much since I have had my dually trucks this past few years. Currently My 03 dually is smoking white, (black if I hit accelerator), turns over uneven, but no smoke/puffs out of oil fill. All injectors buzz fine on FORScan app, but if I drive it for 30 min or so I will get contribution on #2. Is it possible for an injector to make the engine skip doing the shade tree turnover test or am I looking at something more? I have not done a compression test (don't have it on my FORScan) and have not taken the time to go through the glow plugs yet. In addition we had the heads redone 30K ago - Motorcraft gaskets
Every 6.0 powerstroke ive ever seen has had blow by through the oil fill cap. It is 100% normal. It wont build enough compression to seal the rings 100% til above idle
Thanks bill, did injectors on a John Deere 6081 Marine engine today and pulled 200 ml of fuel from 3 cylinders. I know it has bent rods from hydraulic locking so will look for smoke out the exhaust and blow by. You sir are a diesel god and if you’re ever in Sydney, I’d love to take you out on the harbour. How’s an 80 foot luxury yacht sound? We’d be sea trialling it of course.
Oh, and I'd NEVER buy one of these trucks that's been tuned! These people drive them like they're corvettes! Driving and visually modifying the truck to show off in the first place, and cranking the wick up to make it fast as hell and show off at stop lights. Modified trucks are today's equivalent of the beating kids have imports back in the day trying to go fast and show off. I got nothing wrong with it, I just wouldn't buy the person's truck! Hah
My skip turned out to be a fuel pump going to crap and taking the whole system with it lol. $6,600 later and it's up and going again. Guy that owned it before me must have done something, or maybe it just went bad hard to say. 2011 F350. Started as a skip random every 30-50 miles, moved to idle sounding just slightly off, then went to sounding hollow when under good throttle or higher rpm, and finally would shake terribly every once in a while along with the other issues though under normal driving you'd never know really that there was an issue. Kept throwing contribution errors mine was cylinder 6, but it has misfires on all cylinders.
In a compression skip, is the particular cylinder completely dead or just down on power somewhat? I had an Impala with small block and a noticeable lope at idle but not a dead miss like a non firing spark plug, also a soft putt putt in the exhaust note. Turned out 1 cylinder was at 125 psi compression vs around 140 for the rest (yep 8:1 compression gasser). That cylinder on a pull 1 spark plug wire at a time power balance test dropped less rpm than the others hence the soft skip lope.
Where can I get your invention for the EGR Cooler, due to lack of low coolant level? I have 2004 F350 6.0l that runs great. I don't want to damage the motor due to lack of low coolant level.
I'm buying my father's power stroke 1997. 7.3 5 speed 4x4 f 250. He says it missing. Where do u recommend I start? I'm gonna drop both fuel tanks and clean them out and run some c-tang in my fuel to clean my injectors, and gonna drain all fluids and replace. What else do u recommend?
So with the injector problem truck, the owner could hear/feel an issue which made him go check it out right? Like it wasnt found on just a random occurrence?
How much for a 6.0 motor installed in a 2004 f350 dully?????? My truck started missing real bad and yes there is a lot of blow-by coming from my oil filler tube
I have a 6.0l excursion that sat for about 6 to 7 years with an open valve cover and injectors out and I just put injectors in and it has the symtoms of compression skip and a lot of white smoke out of tailpipe it has little amount of air and a faint white vapor blowing out of oil fill tube. Could it be injectors or somthing else. I'm not the one that left it open.
I got a 7.3 that the idle is rough when warm it has a new motor and trans newer idm and it’s got a new cam sensor and fuel filter and have be. Issuing the power stroke help cleaner can you help me out. It’s bugging me
I have an issue with my 2006 6.0. It buck and chucks when I'm driving. If I drive it like I stole it it runs great. If I tow my 5th wheel it seams to run OK. It's when I'm just cruising along driving with out putting any kind of load on it or pushing it a little harder is when this is happening. Does not mater what speed or rpm I am doing either. When under load or pushing it a little bit it runs great. I have the Ford Premium Care warranty on it. I've been told if it doesn't kick a code there is nothing they can do about it. I spent a lot of money for this warranty and for the items that kick a code it's been great. But for the stuff like the bucking and chucking it's not so good. It appears they do not do any diagnostics any more. if they plug the truck in to the OBD connection and it doesn't kick a code then that's all they do. Come back when it either has the light on the dash or stops running all together. I think this answer sucks. I could be towing my 5th wheel or have my 4 year old granddaughter with me and it stops running. Does anyone have an answer to my problem. I've reached out to Ford live chat and told all of this and the girl just kept saying reach out to your dealer or try another dealer. I've don all that and told her that and her answer never changed. Not sure this is the place to put this. I'm hoping it is cause I need to get this fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. drh@bnl.gov is my email.
My Cummins has steam at operating temp but no pressure with it, no smoke out the pipe and perfect compression. What's going on with that ? Doesn't use any oil in 4K miles either.
My obs 7.3 has blow buy it shoots around the dip stick. 339000 miles but still runs solid. My 6.0 with 200000 miles has zero blow by. I love both motors but ive learned the hard way that 7.3s arent as great as everyone says and 6.0s arent as bad as everyone says. The conclusion ive came up with is 1 if u take care of the truck it will take care of you regardless of the motor and 2 7.3s break but when they do you can still drive them for a while. My first 7.3 cracked a piston but we got another 20,000 miles out of her. Check out my channel if you get a chance
U can use the same diagnostic principles however you cannot run a relative compression test with the IDS on a 7.3. You can use an amp clamp and an oscilloscope for A relative compression test on a 7.3 and any other engine for that matter.
Hey I was interested in a VCM2 ever since I’ve seen this video but I see some don’t support Ford Fseries, super duty or diesel trucks I would like to know where you recommend buying one or what to look for ? Please it would really be helping
My 05 Excursion is a V10 I am happy with it I use it to go to the VA in Houston so I drive it but I hear good and bad about the V10 is it good as it seems to be?
I’m new to all of this technology does anyone have the email for powerstroke help I’m having some issues smoke coming out of the oil cap but not a engine skip doing exactly why he is showing would that be a dummy plug under the valve cover?
Don Hanson the 6.0L not sure but on the 6.4L that's a big no. My dad went thru 5 complete 6.4L motors before he was able to find 1 that was rebuild able. The casting of the blocks on those motors are terrible ford designed that motor as a throwaway motor when it goes bad. Horrible design by the manufacturer. It cost $20,000 to rebuild that 6.4L. It's a big POS in my mind. The 6.0L is much better motor

This is GREAT. Thankyou
It’s it an accurate statement that if someone doesn’t need a diesel for the extra power they should get a gas motor?
It took me over a year to find a used diesel truck that had not been tuned/modded/lifted.

Love your videos. Thank you for the help
First chance I get I'm going to get you guys to dealer proof my 6.0. Its a 2003. Runs great so far, but I know it's worth the money to have you do it.
Swapping the motor, VS rebuilding the original motor? Expense VS power?
Water in the fuel. That what happens to a cp4 pump when it takes on a smidgen on water.
Love when you speak the truth !!!
Any suggestions for fixing a "coked" 6.0 intake valve that makes a thumping noise in the air cleaner, without removing the cylinder head?
Allen K bg products
How may 6.4L's have you run into with damaged lifters? I've had a lot of 6.0's come in with loose injectors causing low compression as well.
Hi thanks it's helped me 😢lot thanks
How much for a 6.0 motor installed in a 2004 f350 dully?????? My truck started missing real bad and yes there is a lot of blow-by coming from my oil filler tube
If I am looking at a 6.0l ford in the Atlanta area, what do you charge to check the engine out before I buy one? Thanks TC
Thats good info right there . Thanks guys!
What is this software and connection cable you are using?
Why does the pedal have to be too the floor in the relative compression test?
Would you say any fuel additives such as Lucas or seafoam could prevent this ?
All this information could this apply to a 7.3 as well for Diagnostic purposes
7.3s in good shape have some blow by.
GREAT advice..... I concur.
3:26 - Introducing MIKE (mikey)
Hey I was interested in a VCM2 ever since I’ve seen this video but I see some don’t support Ford Fseries, super duty or diesel trucks I would like to know where you recommend buying one or what to look for ? Please it would really be helping
So which one throws the check engine light?
Nice work bro I love diesel
My 05 Excursion is a V10 I am happy with it I use it to go to the VA in Houston so I drive it but I hear good and bad about the V10 is it good as it seems to be?
Knowledge man!
What program is he using on his computer? I think that program might be helpful for my 7.3.
Sean Shelton Ford IDS software with a VCM 2 module, same stuff ford motor company used, still good in today’s standards
i could be wrong, if i am then please correct my statements
I’m new to all of this technology does anyone have the email for powerstroke help I’m having some issues smoke coming out of the oil cap but not a engine skip doing exactly why he is showing would that be a dummy plug under the valve cover?
Bill can the 6.L 6.4L be resleeved?
Don Hanson the 6.0L not sure but on the 6.4L that's a big no. My dad went thru 5 complete 6.4L motors before he was able to find 1 that was rebuild able. The casting of the blocks on those motors are terrible ford designed that motor as a throwaway motor when it goes bad. Horrible design by the manufacturer. It cost $20,000 to rebuild that 6.4L. It's a big POS in my mind. The 6.0L is much better motor
They don't have sleeves.
Ford didnt have nothing to do with the design... thats internationals design
@@shawnmoore5621 Ford didn't design that engine, Navistar did.
What all diagnostic programs and tools do you use? Please reply when you can
Ean Turner The programs he is using is IDS which I believe is only supposed to be used my Ford Technicians.
Hey sir I had a question
That's some sweet software!!!
Very informative video!
