- Welcome back for episode 10 of the Learn Your Bag Challenge! Next up we have another battle! I'm going to find out which is best for me, the Latitude64 River Vs Discmania Essence.
In this episode, I take on 5 holes at Sydney Olympic park to really put my @Latitude64 River and @DiscmaniaGolfDiscs Essense to the test and see which is the better beginner or understable fairway driver!
Both of these discs are incredible and you really can't go wrong with either one in my opinion!
Y'all know the rules by now, one disc only round besides putting!
If you enjoyed the video, give it a thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe! It's greatly appreciated!

To be fair, you threw the River horribly compared to the Essence. Don't think that had as much to do with the discs as with the user ;) But I like the video! I personally love the River. It is very good for straight shots for even a newbie like myself.
I have both. The Essence is not a beginner disk. It is an amateur disk. I had a beat up River I played with before I lost it. I ordered a special edition River and an Essence Lucid. The two disks are different from each other. The Essence I have is a 9 speed. It wants to curve, not fly straight. The River wants to curve and land in front of me. The special edition River is more of a floppy disk than the original. It does not want to hit the target as often.
I'm new, I have the River. I throw it further and straighter than most of my drivers. And wayyy more consistent
I've been throwing both the Essence and the River for over a year and totally agree with the summary: River flies a little further; Essence is more stable.
Glad I’m not just crazy 😂😂 Preciate the feed back! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I throw RHBH and my Essence isn't understable at all. When I throw it with an anhyzer release, it will fight out of it and finish left. It's one of my favorite discs along with the Mako3. Another disc I like is the Viking Cosmos in the storm plastic. I found the Viking on a practice field (no name and number so I couldn't return it) and I love it. I've only been playing about a year and I'm older (61) so I don't have a big arm. My max drive is about 250 and that's on a good day lol.
I found an Essence a year or so ago and when I called the owner I asked him if he minded if I threw it. He said to go for it. I threw it four or five times and I just couldn’t get a good flight out of it. I don’t know Discmania’s plastics well enough, but it was a premium that you couldn’t see through.
Months later, I picked up a Zen Meta for $5 new at a disc swap meet. I didn’t figure out until later that it was actually an Essence, and maybe the Meta makes the difference for me, but I love it. I’ve wanted to try a River, but can’t imagine it replacing my Zen Essence!
To be honest I’ve gone back and forth with my Essence as well. Sometimes it seems quite touchy to me which can be frustrating. The river is definitely more understable in my opinion but it flies further because of the insane glide it has 😂
@@discgolfjustice: Maybe try it in the Meta plastic. If I throw mine flat it results in a nice flex shot.
I bag them both. Love the Essence as my off the tee workhorse. Love the River as more of a fairway driver. The river is much more OVERSTABLE for me for some reason. The one I have is relatively new...so maybe that's the reason.
Is your river in Opto plastic? If so that's why its more overstable. I just got a biogold river and it flies pretty damn straight.
re: 4:34 the River is actually an 8speed, having a 1.8cm wide rim. 8 5 -2 1 , but it sells better if you tell people it's a 7 speed (that anyone can throw) with insane 7 glide. While adjusting the speed, they also adjusted the turn number, but it probably should be -2 even at 7s.
anything with a slight turn would for sure be good for a beginner, as that slight natural hyzer release would give a good flight
I reckon the river would be slightly better for a beginner 💯
Hey just came across ur video and I have to ask. So u throw right handed and putt left handed? I’m very curious on why that is? Very unique n I’m here for it lol
Two greats but I would encourage any player to look at Innova's Hawkeye.
Very similar to my game, the disc that flies the best is the one that is thrown the best, lol. I bag 2 Mavericks, Two Explorers, and 2 Stags. For sure some overlap happening but I like to throw two off the tee. Stags go really far, I think pretty similar to the Essence.
Ya that’s been the main reason I’ve kept them both in my bag is just because when I’m just playing casually slot of times I like to throw a second or even 3rd shot. Haven’t tried the maverick 🤔
@@discgolfjustice I have a Kona Lucid Ice Maverick that is fairly stable, nice turn and glide then comes back pretty reliable. Then I have a regular Lucid (white) and it was flippy out of the box, like more flippy than any new River I've thrown. This was perfect tho cause I wanted to replace my flippy River with it, it's almost there after a few weeks.
I don't throw the Stags unless I need to bomb a tight woods shot. I think they are the glidiest disc I've thrown, especially slightly downhill, they just go straight forever.
I might need to look into the stag as well!
Crave. Got to try the crave
That’s my favorite fairway tied with the Discmania FD
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the crave! Need to get my hands on one 💯
Love my FD 🙌🏽
@@discgolfjustice ya I imagine the fd is a little more stable which would be good as well.
Specially since mines pretty beat in. It’s a great disc
do jou throw whit right and putt whit left?
Dude, you need to look no further then the Pekapeka bruva 😉 but seriously, would be perfect for those holes too
Hahaha is it true you only bag Pekapekas? 🤯
@@discgolfjustice certainly do 💙🦇 in a comp I may bag 4 just so I have options 😉
What? Just noticed: you putt with left, but jump putt with right? How did you come up with that? Man, that's weird.
I had a shoulder injury at the time that was really bothering me for certain movements
DGA Pipeline might be a good fit for you as well. That and the Essence are true bomber/hyzer flip discs.
I actually haven’t tried any DGA discs 😅 I should some time 💯
