When me and my friends first started playing one of them had a river. We were all super jealous of the distance he was getting. It felt like his disc was in the air like an extra 2 seconds compared to the rest of us. Unfortunately, it found it's way into an actual river.

Star TL3 is an awesome disc. Less fade than a Teebird. Longer than a Teebird3.

Start with a max weight DX Leopard. (This will last you longer than they say and make a great first roller. Keep in mind Simon Lizotte throws the Genius which is much flippier than a max weight DX Leopard.) Once it flies it’s flight numbers add a max weight premium Leopard or Leopard3. Once it flies it’s flight numbers add a premium Instinct/Explorer (same thing). Season to taste. Add another Instinct/Explorer and so on. Your slower fairway lineup is complete.

I would add the diamond to this. Incredibly great first disc. Very useful for shapes as well as a good long driver. The next step up from there is the Jade and it is a wonderful disc also.

The glide in the Essence is incredible and the NEO plastic feels yummy. It’s so easy to throw. Also recommend a Maverick for beginner forehand in Prime plastic, nice and flat, easy to throw.

  • @AntsNigeria
    @AntsNigeria 3 роки тому +4

The crave is my personal favorite control driver that I use the most. But I will clarify that the type of plastic you get it in is very important. The first one I got was made with proton plastic like the one you threw in the video and it was more of just a straight driver I used when I did not quite need the distance that a distance driver would get me. The neutron plastic one I got changed my game. That one can hold what ever line I want it to for a long time and shape any shot i need with precision accuracy. The neutron crave is easily my most used disc in a round.

First off, big shout out to Swanky for make such great videos. So the term "beginner" can cover a lot of ground. I have found that the distance you throw is what matters when choosing a disc, not how long you have been playing. I know people who have played about a year and throw 200' and others that throw 350' or more, that's a big difference when it comes to how a disc flies for you. I can only max out at about 250'. If you happen to throw in that 200 - 250 range, the disc Reid chose as number one will not be the best choice for you, at least not as a straight fairway. I have a few of the discs in this video so just wanted to let you know how they fly for someone with my distance (or lack thereof).
    2 Neutron Craves (158 and 173 gram)
2 Rivers (159 gram Opto Air and 173 gram Gold Ice)
    Essence Neo 175 gram
The Essence is pretty overstable for me. If you have a 200 - 250' arm, this is not the disc for you. If you have a 300' or better arm, it's probably about perfect. I bought it because of videos like this but found it mostly unusable. I could use it now as an overstable fairway, but that's not what we are talking about here.
The River...freakin' love this disc. The absolute best fairway I have found for my arm speed. The Opto Air is slightly understable for me but not not too much. The Gold Ice is almost dead straight with practically no fade unless you put some height on it.
The Crave, another great disc. The Neutron Craves are not as stable as the Neo Essence. I think Reid was throwing a Proton which may be more stable than Neutron. The Crave flies exactly like the Gold Ice River for me but has a reliable fade where the River just finishes straight. For me it has been very difficult to find a fairway that doesn't fade at the end. I play a lot of woods golf and since I don't have the arm to clear a lot of the tunnel shots, I really need something that won't fade out of a narrow fairway and leave me with a scramble shot. The River is the only disc I have found that will do this.
Also an honorable mention to the MVP Relay. I actually like it better than a Crave for what that's worth. I have tons of MVP/Axiom discs and the Relay is amazing for a beginner.

I'm a big big fan of the Innova TL. It's literally a TeeBird but with less fade and a touch of turn. I have it in Pro, G Star, and Star plastics and they're useful for almost any situation. And a Glow DX TL is excellent for beginners and intermediate players that want to start learning how to hyzer-flip.

I’ve been playing for a year now and absolutely love the Discraft Undertaker and the Discmania CD2. I can throw each of them around 390-415 depending on the day and I can get that good flip up and glide to the right before finishing to the left flight out of them. Not beginner friendly because you do need some more arm speed, but definitely good fairways once you’ve been playing a little bit

I still bag one for hyzer flips and for shots that sit right between distance driver and fairway driver distance. It glides forever doesn't fade too hard at the end and will sit on flat to slight turn for easy distance for anyone.

I have become a Lat 64 fan. I still throw a Champ Leopard 3 but I also bag an Opto River and Opto Maul. They both go a long way with my weak arm and the Maul just flies VERY straight (doesn’t really fade much if at all if you don’t but a lot of height on it). The River gives me some turn. I only power grip wider rimmed drivers. Trying to power grip mids or putters gives me very poor control of the disc. What happens when I try is my middle and ring finger hit the flight plate and naturally stop. That's called a pinch grip. But some people say fan grip. To me, a fan grip is with fingers extended.
Edit: so yeah, I power grip the Insanity. But if you have bigger hands, that might make your grip unstable.

I would say the River is a mixed bag for beginner just because it's so susceptible to wind with all that glide. Great for woods play but for open field I would say it can be way to flippy to wind. I would replace it with like a L64 Diamond, little faster with less glide, or as a few people said a DD Maverick which is a great disc in like Fuzion for starters.

Good vid and recomendation .but you showed a Night strike 2 instead of a Jackal. Way different discs. Add too your list the Mantra by thought space discs. High glide and easy to control for newbies or noodle arms like me

Ok, I really new to Disc Golf and now addicted. However, I can only play forehand (backhand I'm clueless); My typical shots fade to the right (sometime really bad); The discs I bought to learn were Destroyer, Mako3, Aviar. The Destroyer keeps really turning over to the right...like a slice... even if it starts out flat. I know my form must be terrible.
Question, being that i throw forehand, which number sequence should I be aiming for? Overstated, Understated, Stable?
Any advice would be GREAT! Any disc set-ups would be great... My short game is good and I par most holes, but my distance SUCKS!!!! :(
    Thanks everyone...

You forgot the MVP Volt. It might be slightly overstable at first for beginners but it does have some flip to it so once a beginner starts to see that part of the flight they have graduated to intermediate. And then the volt is really going to shine as it becomes more and more of a straight flying discs. I’m an advanced player but I’ve been bagging one for years and it’s still my favorite and most used disc in my bag. I actually now have 3 with different levels of stability.

I use Insanity. Very straight and workable fairway. -2 stability makes in beginner friendly, but it is not super flippy still so ut allows some arm speed also.

Ive played for a year at this point, I still consider myself as a beginner to amateur. Overstable discs have been my go to, they always do the same, but I will say this! If you are a beginner and you are reading this. Dont throw overstable to begin with, be humble with speed and stability, it will help you in the long run.
My favourite discs are prodigy F2 and mvp volt!

I have a Crave....Not much of a fan.....ill give it the old sidearm collage try and see.if i get more use out of it....
Ive been told the Essence would be good for me...im not a beginner but my arm is pop gun power like many new players unable to harness any pop they may have...... I'm going to guess the 6 glide is why I'm being recommended the Essence

    I didn't have time when I was younger , but now I've had a stroke .
Now I'm looking at my sister Karins "Stryker fairway driver" .
    It has four letters and four numbers S8 G5 t 0 and f2 .
What are these letters in combinations of numbers and letters and what are they standing for?

As a beginner who throws only 150 on average (maybe 200 max), I love the River, but I have a hard time getting the Essence to go straight unless I'm throwing into the wind. Interestingly, I throw both just as far. The River has great hang time but doesn't go any farther.
