man, I wish I was financially in a position to say thanks with money. these vids are just amazing. so currently, the best I can do is say Thank you from the bottom of my heart man. These vids make me so happy and full of good nostalgia.
happyville section hit me so hard nostalgically. i remember the days when happyville would come around and i would be so excited to explore the map and decorate the trees with my elementary school friends. when we didn't have school, we would all gather in maple and have fun together. those were the good ol' days. thank you for taking me back to the 2000s.
return scrolls were definitely able to be used in orbis tower, I remember reaching the first snow map which meant I could safely use a return scroll to skip to El nath
It’s nothing special really to point out. But I’m really glad that Togain’s commentary has breaks of silence. Most content today has creators spilling their script at the speed of light while Togain (in combination with their great choice of music) fully captures the feel of a map through his own pace of narration. Awesome work as always my dude
It's a narrative choice, but the pausing is my favourite sort of narration. With no pause, it's shorter, and it's good for folks who need constant white noise or who just want information quicker. With pausing, I feel like I can actually breathe to digest information while looking at visuals (and if it's in the background, it feels a little like story telling, with intentional pauses for emphasis on the story.)
Can we get a series about the music of Maplestory? I've played almost every mmorpg on the market but Maplestory is the only one I come back to and im not sure if its because of nostalgia or the music, but even in other mmorpg communities, they use maplestory bgm while talking about unrelated maplestory topics.
Yeah the old music used this one high pitched instrument that I love to hear I think it was a synth or something. Some of the more notable tracks it's used in is the Deep Sea theme used in Aqua Road and the Orbis PQ theme.
I always thought the background in Wolf Territory was unsettling. Just this infinite void of trees that goes so far that darkness consumes it. And then when you finally reach near the end, the sky is blood red with dark clouds, with that mysterious castle looming in the distance. Very creepy area, aided very much by the music.
I agree, the eeriness of Wolf Territory coupled with the perfect music makes it my favorite group of maps to this day. Its my destination for every SSF.
25:36 - "Haru-chan, congrats on being discharged from the hospital~ ^ ^ Here's to a long and happy future" Wow, that screenshot has more backstory than meets the eye
this is what i truly miss about past maplestory, back when everyone was nonchalant about grinding and enjoyed the socializing aspect of it. it was inevitable that solo leveling would be the standard after a long period of time with the game being "figured out" in terms of the efficient progression but with the world progressing towards that fast and immediate lifestyle, I feel like nobody wants to take the game slow and focus on what really matters, which is each other. it also made sense for nexon to push out more solo progression since the game was slowly losing its touch and playerbase before the introduction of reboot, but I wish they were able to find a sweet spot of replacing grinding with better PQs for more social elements. to each their own though
@@jangb98 its not that though, fact is that there are better social platforms like discord for people who are more focused on the socialising aspect whereas back then Maplestory was like MSN or myspace but 100x better with the gameplay as a secondary plus. People who hop on maple now are those that want to actually play the game with socializing as a secondary plus
@@Roflmao6173 what you explained is exactly what I miss, the game being more of a social platform than an actual game itself. and since the socializing aspect actually helped you progress similarly to solo grinding in terms of PQs, it opened up way more opportunities to interact with fellow players and achieving the same goals together. I'm currently playing reboot and though the new boss functions are nice for meeting new people, you cant beat the pure joy of finding a group for 3-4 others, playing PQs, and possibly making a new friend.
Happyville is a map i remember a ton. I got into maplestory in december of 2014 and I got lost in Happyville after accepting an event quest. I did not know how to leave for a long time but I loved the music so much and didn't care that I was lost. It was a very magic place for me. I always listen to it in the winter season.
Man hidden streets were some of the coolest things back in OSMS. I remember being a low level, finding HHH packed with people and couldn't farm. Then I found like a weird mushroom forest in Henesys that was all orange mushrooms, regular mushrooms, and the occasional snail. There were platforms you could climb and sit to regen hp/mp. I only ever saw like one or two other people in it. I miss that so much man.
Man this was great. Happyville was a place where people would hangout and/or wait for the giant snowman to spawn and fight it with the limited snowballs people collected. Thank you for sharing the forgotten places in Maplestory! 👍
Loving the waves of nostalgia here. While watching this vid I immediately pulled up the few remaining screenshots from the old MS days i still have on my PC, and lord and behold I still got some some Happyville :) those were good times, keep up those videos, subscribed!
I fondly remember that period of time before the underwater area was released. We did just have that one partially flooded room and I remember just looking up KMS screenshots and just being excited at the new content we were about to get. My mind could be playing a trick on me for this bit of info, but I think you could press up on the entrance and would get a message saying that this area was not available yet in pink text. Every once in a while on my descents down Orbis tower I would visit the room and just look at that hole and let my imagination run wild on the fun I would have because I loved the idea of an underwater area thanks to Donkey Kong Country. I did not know HappyVille and Monkey Forest 2 received such huge makeovers because I stopped playing before those changes happened, but it was cool to see how much they did change.
I'm so so grateful that your videos are so well made. It means a lot to me that you would put effort into this piece of our shared history, into this lovely game and yes I think about happyville all the time, unprompted! It was so heartwarming and so amazing, decorating those trees with strangers will stay with me forever. The early internet was a truly special moment in time
Thank you so much for making these videos Togain! I honestly fall asleep to your videos every night, something about the soundtrack mixed in with your calming voice…
I love the Happeville music. I refuse to let it fade by playing its theme in my DnD campaigns in a town mandatory for the plot. Its upbeat and energetic vibe sets a very eerie tone when you walk in and everybody is just...unnaturally happy. I also miss the tree decoration and the awful grind for the ice chair. Best chair next to the floating Visitor one.
Happyville gave me so much nostalgia, and the music brings back such good memories. I remember back then I saw people sitting in ice chairs and I was so jealous since I couldn’t collect enough rascal snow pieces 😢
Damn that last redesign of Happyville adding back the OG look hit my heart. I like to imagine the designers wanted to give it one last change before it was gone for good. Rest easy Happyville
I barely played Maplestory back in the day, but damn do I just love all these old school maplestory videos. Gives me the same kind of charming vibe old school Runescape does to me.

talking about saving mesos from the obris tower reminds me of my MS journey. I know you didn't talk about aqua road yet but I also saved mesos as a kid. I would be done with Ludi PQ, go to helios tower, helios to go to Korean folk town, KFT to aqua road, aqua road to floor 1 of obris tower, go up to orbis, then at orbis i can take the boat back to ellinia. All that traveling took 30mins. I know that because i watched anime while doing that journey. All of that to save 5k mesos. Thanks to the trip down memory lane.
These vids are already great, but the occasional Flyff track really draws out my feelings for this era of mmos. Thanks so much for making these!

takes me back to when i tried to get as far as possible in a map to see what it looked like in hope i didnt die. just surviving a lycan was a win haha. i remember when i reached the dead mine how proud i was

Fun fact about the Tower when I first started playing the game, I randomly got teleported to some random area, and I didn't know fast travel was a thing, so I had to climb through that tower, it was a wild ride.
love your work togain! i think a cool video idea for the OSMS genre would be the hardware players used to play on. i remember gaming on my old family computer as well as my friends computer. it always felt like we were at such a disadvantage when it came to progression. would love to see what hardcore progession players were using from 2005-2010 etc. im fascinated by a potential release of OSMS in 2024 because i actually have a decent rig to play on now lol
6:15... holly shit, i just love this map. I mean, in 2009, i didn't wanted to get very high level, because i thought those 50-70 (and 70-100) was such a sweet spot to play. I made a bunch of chars, and this place is very special to me.
Oh man. That Happyville segment brought back memories of my old guild from back then. I wonder what happened to the Starburst crew from Bera. Kinda wish I kept in touch with all of them lol

episode idea: masteria and the old days of bigfoot hunting where people would ks each other and sell leech. The old chimney training spots also. Haunted house used to be a hangout spot back then.
7:00 forest of golem - iirc people actually do train til lvl 90 at this map because they clear really fast and the drops were decent, was it mokbi and another scroll? i think it was claw for att 60% or gloves for att 60%. it was still a hot spot between this map or coolie zombies before aquarium
