I just finished watching the video, this was exceptionally well made and you should be proud! Thanks for having me on for this project! That Geoff Keighley joke got a big chuckle out of me, and the PLANITb interview was very wholesome. Can't wait for part 2 and 3!
I'm so proud of you, babe. I know how hard you worked on this. 🖤 Let's like and share, everyone! Niosai deserves this after so many long days and hours and years. 🖤🖤
Kingdom Hearts meant a lot to me as a child, I was born with a bad heart that wasn’t completely fixable (I live with bad chest pain), and I had an abusive father growing up that tried to make me uh- not exist multiple times. I also didn’t have friends due to not being able to do much as a child and was bullied. Kingdom Hearts was my first video game series and got me through it all. I wanted to be like Sora, and it helped. I smiled through everything and came out stronger I’d like to think, and Kingdom Hearts is the reason why. When I had no friends, it gave me friends. When I had a bad heart, it taught me what makes a heart really strong. When I was scared and lost in the dark, it reminded me there was always a light deep down that never goes out. When I couldn’t do much, it let me run through so many worlds. And a few years ago I met my now fiance in a group online for Kingdom Hearts and we ended up in the same state. Now we live together and sometimes pop on vr headsets and go to Twilight Town in vrchat or Destiny Islands and eat ice cream. We’re planning a Kingdom Hearts wedding. I say with no exaggeration, Kingdom Hearts saved and changed my life and made me who I am. Thank you Sora, for always keeping me safe.
You dedicated section to talking about Utada’s music at the end makes this retrospective a S+ effort. Thank you for making this, can’t wait to see the next instalment!
What a monster of a video! Everyone PLEASE like the video (it takes 0.2 seconds) for my boy Niosai who put so much work into this video. This is about to be a treat 😁
I love this style of content. Longform reviews from games with in depth analyzation story and gameplay. This is the content I use also as a audiobook. As more detail is spoken the better it is to hear even without video. You made such a great job. There are not so many ppl making those 2-8 hour videos but that’s the best content. You know you are in for a ride, and the content is highly rewatchable because you won’t keep everything on the first go. I can’t wait to get into the other 2 parts! I don’t know if this format makes you enough money with that tons of work going into it, but I love that long format! ❤ keep it up I hope the best for you.
This was such a fantastic video. I feel privileged to have seen you work on this behind the scenes and I’m still wow’d Can’t wait to see the rest of the series ♥️
So I finished watching this eariler and I almost forgot to leave a comment. This whole project is positively insane in size and overall thoroughness. You covered nearly every single detail and it flows perfectly. I'm Happy to be on board for this and I'm excited for part 2 :)
Seriously, this video is amazing! It's a true loveletter to the franchise. I can really feel everyones passion for kh, this is definitely a video that i'll come back to and rewatch as this video is just too good to only view once.
Such a heart-warming conversation to end the video on. I can't wait for the next massive video. If its another 2 years, 2 months, or 2 weeks. I will be waiting for it just as I waited for this one since you announced it back in 2022. Thank you.
I can see how much effort you put into this and I wanna say thank you for creating this masterpiece of a video. It might seem silly, but videos like these, which are filled with passion and love for the franchise, that I so very much adore, it just makes me truly happy. I will sit down and watch this from the very beginning until the very end. Once again, thank you for creating this. I hope the video will garner a lot of views and reward you for what insane amounts of work you must've put into this.
Personally, I don't think it seems silly at all. My favorite type of content is when people speak from the heart, and/or passionately express their joy for something like this. Regardless of consensus. Videos that just embody joy and passion are not only heartwarming, but show me how powerful video games can be.
For as much as you joke about cheesing CoM with Lethal Frame and Sonic Blade, now I know how to beat this game. I also now realized why having a deck full of pretty much only premium cards while saving CP is heavily handicaping me from being able to beat Jafar.
Honestly this was really good and well made. You went into detail in everything and did not miss out on anything and I respect that completely. I even respect that you have other KH content creators to have their thoughts in game which was smart to back it up in what you experience in the game today we aren't alone to think of that. Best retrospect
There is no way you will read this, but i just wanted to point out that this is a great retrospective of the first 2 games in the series. The onky major criticism i have is the title seems a bit misleading. I thought i was in for the entire series in this video, and when i got 45 minutes in and you were still covering the first game i went to the description to confirm that it is indeed just the first part. Now let me be clear, i am ecstatic that you are diving so deep into the series and giving every game the tine it really deserves, i just with i had known ahead of time that it was indeed part 1 is all. Once again great video and i will be watching out for the rest of them.
Video definitely deserves my like. Dang, that is a herculean task! There's still much more to go to, but I'm glad you are going into as much depth as you did! Re:Com gets a lot of hate, but it's one of my favorite games in the series due to the deck building customization. There's such a huge repertoire of ways to make a deck in it. Thank you for your service in tracking down PlanitB for an interview too! Definitely a childhood favorite!
What a fantastic deep dive! I consider myself a pretty well-educated fan of the series, but I'm happy to report that I learned a couple new things while going on this awesome four-hour journey! The part about the artwork changing depending on what difficulty you beat the games was by far the biggest realization made that I had no clue about until I watched this! I also love the nod to the Game Awards/Geoff Keighley 😂big time looking forward to the next couple of parts of this retrospective for sure 💖
IM FUCKING READY!!!! currently at work eating lunch, most of my meetings are done for the day so I am banking on getting to listen to this while I edit. If not, definitely watching when I get home from work and will comment!!! Been seeing the updates/WIP on twitter and eagerly awaited them and now it’s here, yipppeeeee🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Holy crap! I had always hoped that you would cover this series, I had no idea it would be 4 hours long 😆 Looking forward to watching this over the next few days!
I just restarted playing through all the games again and have been a fan since the original trailer was included on the game demo disc that came with the PS2 (I watched that thing probably 200 times) and went looking for some retrospectives and video essays, stumbling upon this one by chance through the related video section and man... what an incredible breakdown of a game franchise that was so formative to me. Truly amazing work. The whole last section of this video with PLANiTb has me picking my jaw up off the floor and fighting back tears. I cannot wait for part 2. 👏
@@Niosai i've had your channel on full notifications for almost 3 years now and i always get excited when i see you uploaded and its one of the long videos. Its obvious how much effort it takes dude, i respect it. Never quit!
This has been such a great retrospective & the ending interview is special, I was genuinely shocked I appreciate it so much. I look forward to seeing the further parts to the KH franchise retrospective. Any chance we'll get to see part 2 in September?? (All of us viewers do need patience as your videos go so much in depth & we have been given a part 1 that's so far I been almost 4 hours) Amazing work & and tribute to the the Kingdom Hearts series. May your heart be your guiding key. 🔑
I appreciate that a ton! My goal is to have Part 2 done by the end of this month, but if not this month, I'll work extra hard to make sure it's out early September! Your words mean a ton and it's comments like these that give me the motivation to keep working hard. Thank you! ❤️
Funny enough, I never knew this up until recently but whenever the Fat Bandit shoots the 3 fire balls you can actually reflect it back at it and it will cause the fat body to get stunned (Maybe I'm just late cus straight up I only found out like... a week ago)
1:38:00 you sir, are the first person in YEARS to tell me something I never know about kingdom hearts holy cow. I never would have known that soras shadow would NOT come back with him if he didn’t finish neverland yet You earned a sub from that alone 🎉❤
Playing this in the bacground while grinding room after room in Castle Oblivion in Chains. PSA: In Chain of Memories, if during normal gameplay, you ever get a blue card (Treasure, Save Point, Moogle, etc...) with a value of 1, HOLD ON TO IT until the end of the game. The last door literally has an "=1 blue" condition, and if you don't have one, you'll be forced to grind random rooms until the RNG decides you've had enough. Likewise, it also has an "=3 red"
If I recall correctly the reason deep jungle wasn't included in CoM was because of some sort of legal/copyright issue expiring around the time that game was being developed. I might be wrong but that's what I remember reading a few years back.
Magic is quite great in KH1, I replayed KHFM recently and was quite surprised at how useful Gravity can be and how often I ended up using it. Shielded heartless like Fat Bandits and Defenders often goes down quite quickly to a Gravity→Thunder combo or just Gravity then walking behind them to swing a few times, the mummy-like Wight Knight loses their ability to do highjumps if hit with Gravity, Search Ghosts drops many HP orbs if you land Gravity on them, the Pirate Ships immediately loses their mast and thus several attacks if hit with Gravity, several chests in Hollow Bastion are only available using it, and several more stuff. Aero is known to be quite broken once upgraded, Thunder is a great way to hit your surroundings all at once, Blizzard is a staple way to do damage, Fire has a slight homing property and is cheap to use, it's Final Mix so Leaf Bracer is available, thus turning Cure from a way to extend your survivability into a limited invincibility, and while I don't use much Stop, Donald used it enough to turn the Wizards into easy pickings. Now I'm starting to wonder if KH2 will feel as good if I mixed in more magic than I did in previous playthroughs
I will never look at kingdom hearts the same after seeing a commenter talk about their grandma loving Kingdom Hearts and never getting to see the end of KH3
1:37:40 Correction: In order to Encounter Hooks Ship, you need to beat 2 of 3 worlds between Atlantica, Halloween Town, and Monstro. Making all 3 optional worlds as long as you beat the other 2. This has some interesting challenges, as skipping Monstro, means you skip High Jump, so the rest of the game is distinctly designed to be beaten without High Jump. Also Olympus Coliseum can be completely skipped, you never even have to land there to beat the game, you can just go around it.
Loved the video. Made be buy the KH series on steam. I do have a few nitpicks with the way your video is structured. I'm used to each section being covered in this order: Story, worlds/gameplay, reception, others. Not to say your style is bad by any means. Just that it felt a bit out of place for me since I'm used to structured videos with proper sections for each individual part of "THE GAAAMES" Speaking of which, is there any chance of seeing part 2 anytime soon? Eagerly waiting for it 🙂
@@immortalkombat9289 Appreciate the feedback! And part 2 is coming together slowly but surely. It's actually quite a bit bigger than part 1😅 It should be out HOPEFULLY within the next month or two, though! Thanks so much for watching, though 😁
I am new to this channel and didn't expect such a deep analysis of the very basics of the game, but i really preciate it. Even as a big KH fan. I am presonally really suppised how much smother the combat feels in KH2 compared to KH1. And i KH3 it became way to floaty for my taste. Also i really really liked the drive forms and missed them from every game moving forward. I personally think the best part of the seriese is KH2 by far, everything just feels right and very fun. It sure has it's problems, like how you can cheese some very hard boss fights (looking at you peter pan and - combo fenrir). I also really enjoyed Chain of Memories when i played it on my DS, until my L trigger died.... Especially like playing as Riku there and abusing cloud as sora. RE:Chain of Memories is a nice visual upgrade for it but it removed the "retro vibes" i got from the OG version. I was very hyped when KH3 got announced and even thought of buying a PS4 just to play it... But i waited until a friend of mine got it and showed me a bit of the game play. I was really dissapointed form it and lost most of my interesst. After he was done with it, he also told me that the story was a huge let down. In his words, nothing until the very end mattered and then it was 90% fan service, especially the comeback of Xion... Days was such an emotional intense game for me, especially the "death" of Xion. And then she is just back? With no explenation at all? WTF? Since then i don't have any interesst in the upcoming games but still love playing the older once, mostly KH2, chain and days. Also the story of the games mostly got more and more confusing over the games. In KH1 many questions came up, in 2 some of them got answerd but like 5 times as many came up. Days kinda explained who Roxas is and how thr org works but opend up another can full of question. And so many are still open... It really dissapoints me that we didn't have a real conclusion to all this mess.
I think you forgot to say that Tinkerbell revive you if you get a death hit (i'm still at the beginning of the video so maybe you did say it) Cool video man, i'm enjoying it a lot
Ahh KH 1. I remember as a kid I probably spent 5 hours killing heartless on destiny island I remember being amazed with the interactivity in deep jungle I remember being stuck on dark Riku taking me countless tried to beat him. I also remember customizing a tank stile gummiship for no reason. Great game highly recommend.
Letsssss go I will edit my comment when I watch the whole thing Your video makes me want to binge the whole series’s again Edit: just hit the two mark, lets goo
You technically get both Keychains and Keyblades. KH2 you get another Keyblade with its own Keychain that he can also swap around. Hence Kingdom Key + Star Seeker and Oathkeeper + Oblivion. So saying it either way will always be correct.

This has been such a great retrospective & the ending interview is special, I was genuinely shocked I appreciate it so much.
I look forward to seeing the further parts to the KH franchise retrospective.
Any chance we'll get to see part 2 in September??
(All of us viewers do need patience as your videos go so much in depth & we have been given a part 1 that's so far I been almost 4 hours)
Amazing work & and tribute to the the Kingdom Hearts series.
Thank you! ❤️
How dare you use AP up for Tarzan. My heart hurt immediately
The homie, Sweis, lending his voice, is true peak content.
This is prolly a great video will watch over the next week
Let me know what you think! :)
Wow, great job on this video!
As an adult, I love Monstro now! I'm not sure what changed but I know I can more easily recognize where I'm at inside now
I found out after this video that the entrance doors are color coded...lmao
@@Niosai I did NOT KNOW THAT lol
25:00 Correction, KH1 does not let you Shortcut Items, that wasn't a thing until KH2. KH1 only lets you shortcut Spells
Funny enough, I never knew this up until recently but whenever the Fat Bandit shoots the 3 fire balls you can actually reflect it back at it and it will cause the fat body to get stunned
(Maybe I'm just late cus straight up I only found out like... a week ago)
I woke up to this on auto play and the named sounded like one piece names
1:38:00 you sir, are the first person in YEARS to tell me something I never know about kingdom hearts holy cow. I never would have known that soras shadow would NOT come back with him if he didn’t finish neverland yet You earned a sub from that alone 🎉❤
It's a really cool detail! Thank you :)
I loved the interview at the end ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, I believe that only some of Tarzan's stories are in the public domain, and at the time of KH1 and COM I believe NONE of them were!
If you dont finish 100 acre woods you're heartless
Also great job a video like this really shows your growing confidence/skills as a content creator.
I appreciate that :)
That ChaoticBlossoms is a legend,
True!
That final interview bit is insane
That last bit was really nice.
I agree :)
One correction: The secret endings are the LAST thing you'll see before the The End screen, meanin they're AFTER the credits
haven’t watched yet but commenting to boost algorithm, kingdom hearts is my favorite series too !
I appreciate that! And your favorite series? GREAT taste
Now I'm starting to wonder if KH2 will feel as good if I mixed in more magic than I did in previous playthroughs
hey man, this is great!! i would love it if you played every assassin's Creed game
I will never look at kingdom hearts the same after seeing a commenter talk about their grandma loving Kingdom Hearts and never getting to see the end of KH3
Wait what???
1:37:40 Correction:
In order to Encounter Hooks Ship, you need to beat 2 of 3 worlds between Atlantica, Halloween Town, and Monstro.
Just that it felt a bit out of place for me since I'm used to structured videos with proper sections for each individual part of "THE GAAAMES"
Speaking of which, is there any chance of seeing part 2 anytime soon? Eagerly waiting for it 🙂
@@immortalkombat9289 Appreciate the feedback! And part 2 is coming together slowly but surely. It's actually quite a bit bigger than part 1😅
It should be out HOPEFULLY within the next month or two, though!
Thanks so much for watching, though 😁
Don't worry as a Starfox 64 fan, and who plays that game more times than anyone really should. You are valid on that comparison
Thank you 😂
Great video! 😄
wait....I NEVER KNEW THAT THING ABOUT THE SHADOW! I've been loving this game since I was a kid and never knew that :o
Just the thing I need to reignite my KH hyperfixation to play them on PC.
Bro went insane. Looks good tho
Seconds into the video and I’m already really impressed.
I appreciate that :)
It always bugged me far more than it should that when you go Atlantica Donald becomes part squid. Donald... a duck... an aquatic bird!
Letsssss go
I will edit my comment when I watch the whole thing
Your video makes me want to binge the whole series’s again
Edit: just hit the two mark, lets goo
👀
Time to watch my 50th video essay on kingdom hearts! 😎
I hope you add Part 2 and 3 as the 51st and 52nd too 😎
You technically get both Keychains and Keyblades. KH2 you get another Keyblade with its own Keychain that he can also swap around. Hence Kingdom Key + Star Seeker and Oathkeeper + Oblivion. So saying it either way will always be correct.
I guess I can watch this short video before I go to sleep...
Yeah yeah just a quick short video
Love the sound mixing in this video
Thank you for noticing 😭
