The sun painting is also the entrance to Rainbow Ride if you look down the hole
Cool
Hey kosmic didn’t expect to see you here
Same with the entrance to Wing Mario Over the Rainbow.
@@IvanFranco120 yeah, I was waiting for a nintendo gamer like Nathaniel or Kosmic to figure it out...
this is my new favorite sentence
I'm fairly certain the wall on the tower of Whomp's Fortress has become paradoxically well known because of how few people knew it.
i don't think you know what a paradox is...
Yeah, because you can't see the texture difference on the wall...😅
@@FO18L they're just using the word in a non-literal sense, it's not an uncommon usage.
The stars painting also happens to be the notes used for Song of Storms in Ocarina of Time, which was being worked on around the same time.
No it isn't xD
@@jdawgturnbag3083 it is, the leak with the original Luigi 64 model was saying that this painting is the song of storm of OOT
When they showed the stars in the video i was hoping they saying it that this is the song of storms. But I got disappointed that they just say that you can find the same stars on other places. I mean, this is not a secret? It's the same like when i say "the grass in world 1 is green like outside the castle. It's the same grass!!"
The cloud painting shown after looks like Navi
With the same engine and assets
Finding out what the "pinkish" in Metal Mario is after all this time was something else, yes, BUT I NEVER EVEN KNEW THERE WAS ANOTHER IDLE ANIMATION FOR MARIO IN THE COLD!!! WHAT?!?
I always thought he'd just sleep so I don't think I ever stood still long enough at a "cold" level.
another thing to add about the slide kicking on lava thing, the same thing also applies to quicksand and the freezing cold water in snowman’s land
having been speedrunning this game for years i expected to already know everything in this vid but you still got me...incredible man. the paintings being reused and the cold animation/cloud lvl
Yeah, i wonder if the cold animation from the coulds level, was an leftover from an early version of the game...🤔
@@IvanFranco120 it's probably just that the clouds act like snow, like the video guessed
By far the best researcher out there, the lil' penguin is so cute nghh ❤
My favourite youtuber out there, always quality content and I love the execution of the editing. Just a peaceful informative watch. Great stuff.
I 100% agree!!
5:51 - "Ooh! There's a fish!" - PBG when playing Super Mario 64 Chaos Edition.
Regarding the sun painting, it's not just used on the ceiling of the 1st floor lobby. It's also used as the entrance for Rainbow Ride and the hidden course directly adjacent to it
Yeah...
One detail I think goes underappreciated in your videos is your skill at these games! Seamlessly doing Canonless Caged Star, HESSes and all kinds of tricks in Zelda games, etc.
I love the N64 content! One of my new favorite channels, Looygi.
I knew quite a lot surprisingly... But that's not important, great work as always! Looking forward to new content!
That decaying mosque in the background is downright bizarre. What a weird world that one is
If I remember my SM64 trivia correctly, the reason behind the fish jumping out of the water when Mario hops around is that the water particle effect has a small percentage chance to be replaced with a fish texture instead for the effect.
Intresting...
That's what's clearly happening on screen, duh
Still no explanation for why that happens in the first place
@@lunarkomet I didn't know it was replacing a water particle (not sure how true that is), but you're right that that doesn't actually give any reasoning why it's happening like he said..
@@lunarkomet ... He literally explained it. It happens because the particle effect is not proper to Mario. It is "generic" for the game, and so they didn't code anything t prevent the fish animation while it wouldn't make any sense.
That nap end card was adorable.
Right out of the gate with a fact I didn’t know! Thank you for always delivering!
Yeah, the 1-UP one really surprised me...😅
You are by far the most epic Easter eggs channel ! No 🧢
You've heard of skipping rocks across water.
Now get ready for skipping Marios across lava.
This is a rare instance of the facts in one of this type of video being actually quite unknown. Props to you!
The edits for falling onto the pillars is so perfect, you were thorough and even fell at different angles.
And like always, I already knew about some of these but I'm just blown away by the other facts, I didn't even realize the paintings were reused in the castle.
I love this channel!!! Please keep the content coming!
Yeah, pls do more SM64 videos.
I really enjoy your videos. Another one full of stuff I had no idea about! I’ve played this game so many times and you’ve blown me away!
Wet dry world's skybox looks like AI shenanigans
OMG, I'm totally liking this before even watching it, because I just know it's gonna be AWESOME! Here we go!
0:48 adorable
The wet-dry world skybox is so weird and out of place... If you look closely, there are ripples near the sun in the skybox... which means this is a submerged and most likely abandoned town...
most unoriginal comment. wet-dry world is weird. sure hasn't been said a billion times.
@@tylerr7852 Yeah... Not sure if the DS remake has an similar texture...🤔
@@tylerr7852 You are weirder for being unnecessarily rude. You could have just ignored the comment but nooooo. Just because it has said many times doesn't mean people can't talk about it
@@tylerr7852 to be this butthurt over nothing you must be having a terrible day...
@@lunarkomet Yeesh. Welcome to UA-cam
Wow - some of these I never knew of noticed! Keep the great content coming!
The pinguin one was so cute
3:14 and also of the inside of the rainbow ride hole
I appreciate no commentary videos a lot
Wow! That penguin animation and sound, never knew that
Other channels about "game secrets": Did you know that the "M" in Mario's cap stands for the initial letter of his name? Meanwhile this man just spewed 11 things I genuinely never head before about a game I played countless times.
You sir have answered a question I’ve been wondering for 20 years; what was metal Mario’s reflection
0:55 This could probably be used in a speedrun actually
This was one of the most fun videos on this game I've seen in a long time
It was intrested for the thumbnail, lol.
I’m afraid you will one day run out of n64 things to share with us :(
this is a great video! i never knew about like half the things on this list. great findings!
2:53 Look at the stars. Here is: A, up up. A, up, up. That is Ocarina of Time combination. In Super Mario 64 DS this stars are disappeared.
nice edition, i just knew half of these, all those details add so much
I forgot some of these secrets, I knew them since I was a kid. Thanks again

another argument: in someone challenge run, they played sm64 with every level flooded, and that level, despite not having water, has frozen water properties.
Indeed, that stage is marked as ice/snow level. Probably just because of the cloud thing.
@@gragogflying-anvil3605 Its an leftover from an early build? 🤔
Yeah that was swankybox and the reason most likely is that the level was made earlier in development and they used a frozen level because of the cloud effect as rainbow ride does not have frozen water when flooded it’s just an effect of an “ice” level
That fish saw Mario having so much fun with all that wahooing that it had to get in on it.
Loving this content!
The content here is underated, they should do more games...
Legendary game, awesome secrets and great video ;) !
Cool for me too. 😅
Can you please do a trivia series on some of the content found in the beta versions of the Nintendo 64 games leaked a few months ago? I think it would be really interesting
It we'll be cool if you make a serie of Star Fox 64 cool things
A cool fact to know : the paintings with stars is beautiful, but he hide a secret. If you look cloosely, you can see that the stars play the Song of Storms from Ocarina of Time.
I fought he will tell this in the video, but he didn't. So I did. 😎
What are you talking about
It's say it's song of time. In song of storms, the first two notes are close together, while the third one is about an octave away.
@@smg4reblooperd182 The painting at 3:35. The bright stars at the top can be read as musical notes and resemble a song from OOT.
This is one of the things that make this game legendary.
Back in the days you discussed Super Mario 64 with your friends on schoolyard sharing secret tipps and such.
But you still dont know all the secrets to this Day.Sure you can easily find every Star blind. Defeat Bowser with one Hand and yada yada but there are still these little things and functions like in this Video you maybe still dont know that this and that even exists.
Thank you for this. I will remember this Features for my next walktrough.
As someone that played Mario 64, This is absolutely insane!
Yes, even i have played the DS remake.
I got chills from the last spot. The real life foto looks as dead as the skybox texture.
1:54 I believe you can also see this if you get electrocuted as metal mario in a rather odd way, normal mario will flicker despite him being metal (and not actually taking damage)
Or maybe my memory is just really bad and this is baloney, idk xd
Most likey used as a tech for saving N64 resources for better framerate...
The fish appearing out of nowhere happened to me once, i almost thought my game was personalized
Valeu!
Obrigados!
The shifting sand land skybox has the sphinx and the great pyramids in it and the text for when yoshi talks to Mario after getting all the stars starts with a typo he says “Mario, it that really you”
Yeah, the Yoshi typo was kinda easy to see, and strangely it was not patched on 3D All Stars...
Every time I see you upload I'm like " yea right I know everything about these games " yea, no I don't.
I didn’t know you could make a slidekick 😳
Yeah
knew all of these already
Me i only knew a few ones. The 1-UP was really an surprise...😳😅
You guys understand me! thanks for all the wonderful nostalgia!
The video no one asked but everyone was expecting.... thank you... you made my day
Oh so that's what the reflection on Metal Mario is?
Possibly...🤔
@@IvanFranco120 confirmed it is
im feeling guilty of killing the penguin, its so cute
Ive loved and played this game for a while, and these were all news to me!
Haven’t played this game in twenty years, music took me immediately back to after school program, the tv in the corner of the room and ten kids waiting their turn
Me i played the DS version, many times whenever i got bored...
@@IvanFranco120 you have commented about the DS version more than anyone should be comfortable with…
Great video as always! Having played Mario 64 to death I'm proud to know most of these.
Also something that I don't know if is common knowledge but in Bob-omb Battlefield Mario can grab and hang from under the first bridge (or ramp?), the one next to a red (!) box at the start of the level.
It was common in my family, but who knows, it might be a secret to the rest of the world :)
Aren't there coins under there for that exact purpose?
@@lunarkometThat is the bridge outside, I am talking about the square shallow water on the inside between the basement and outside door.
I know this game extremely well, but there were still a couple of these I didn't know about and a few I had forgotten. I wonder if the DS version fixed Mario being able to get stuck in surfaces he shouldn't get stuck in. My guess is probably not, but they might have.
Small fish 😮
Never expected to learn something new with this game, but you surprised me.
You can also get a secret 1up in the basement:
After lowering the water in around the castle, walk back to the hallway. There is still a square of low water left. Walk to every corner of this water and the 1up will appear :)
"This painting is very pretty".
I did not know that!
We appreciate your work!
I knew many of these just from fucking around for an endless amount of hours as a kid in this game. I explored every inch of every level, and I was particularly interested in finding Luigi. I thought every game was filled with secrets and mysteries. I miss when games felt that way.
The fish is really the most obscure also it looks like ocarina.
7:35 I always thought that building at the top in the Super Mario 64 Texture was a blue bird sleeping on it's back, it sure looks like it to me lol
out of all of these, I found Mario being able to get his butt stuck by ground pounding most interesting
2:23 ok...that broke the magic lol it just cant be unseen now
I thought I knew everything about Mario 64 but no, I learned three new things!
Me i learned about that 1-UP location on Whomp's Fortress...😅
wow thats cool
I wonder if speedrunners know about the 71 coins
the "getting stuck" animations are so funny
Yes I know it's a game, but that little penguin sliding is cute
Its an nice detail...😏
It also exists on the DS remake too
0:25 Since when that 1-UP exists!? 😳
Also, glad to see an SM64 video...😅
awesome video!
I hope you do something on Mario party 3 as well
I'd love to hear unknown facts about it
Can you use the penguin belly slide trick to make it slide itself off the mountain? >.>
Not sure...🤔
when I see the little penguin I laugh because I always see ten years old myself taking the poor little penguin and throw him in the void hahahaha
i wanted to start a new game anyway! thank you nice vid
Man, I hate that I knew all of these!! I wanted to learn something new 😭 great vid tho 👍
I knew the first 3, the origin of Metal Mario's reflection, and the last one.
Cool
Same
Nice 👍
I always thought the sun painting was a picture of a jellyfish.
Guess we're way past 'punch butterflies to get 1-Ups', huh...
Amazing video!! Congratulations!!
Finally I knew more than of these.
The ending is super wholesome lol
Beeg thank
Thanks once again Garrett! Glad you're enjoying Mario 64, too.
@@LooygiBros Beeg welc
i don't know if anybody else found this out before i did or not, but if you go to where toad is (on the first floor) and you turn the camara to the wall, you'll be able to see peach and everyone else standing right behind that wall. they're just standing there, with a blank stare lol.
Dang. How did you find out about the fish. Crazy.
I have no idea how I knew about that whomp tower one-up as a 7 year old when the game came out
Man I wish you did a voiceover so one could have your videos on in the background. They are awesome but too silent :(
