One of the reasons why a lot of times cones are used instead of cylinders, is because they use half the polygons necessary. For instance: a Cone with 12 sides have 12 triangles, but a cylinder with 12 sides, have 24 triangles. So developers stretch the cone, to make them look like cylinders.
I think I know what's going on with the white texture under the entrance to HMC. In the original SM64, when Mario moves, the game checks whether there is ground beneath you in your new position, and if there is no ground beneath you, it doesn't allow you to move to that position. (This is noticeable on stages without a death plane below, where instead there seems to be an invisible wall surrounding the stage.) On the normal paintings, you're never above them, so there's always ground beneath you up until you enter the painting. However with HMC, there needs to be floor beneath the entrance, otherwise there would appear to be an invisible wall surrounding the entrance and Mario wouldn't be able to enter the level.
@@DARamosYT it essentially is a wall though, cause collision checks are always "check X pixels ahead, if valid position, position x pixels ahead, else don't position" just normally invalid positions are determined by checking for a polygon/other collision marker rather than the lack of floor. its a really clever way to ensure the player stays within bounds, as if no level has been made its solid as far as game physics care.
Beating the game as Wario doesn't end the weird stuff at the cutscene. During the credits Wario can appear in certain scenes. But the most unusual thing is that when you get to the Rainbow ride level the screen flashes and you lose a life and spwn back in front of the castle. And if that wasn't weird enough, the sound effects are completely gone.
The reason the back of the castle exists in Mario 64 DS is cause in the beta you could run all the way around the castle. It didn't make sense though cause it totally disregarded the courtyard's existence (there was just a moat around the castle), so that's maybe why they changed it. I also think at that point the game was a bit of a tech demo to just show the four characters flying around the castle.
Shesez should do what Jim Sterling does and put in gratuitous copyrighted content so *nobody* gets the ad revenue.Except I don't know if Shesez actually monetises his content, because the copyright-deadlock scheme would kind of bone him.
I think you might be a little off about the cone shapes. They do make it easier to convincingly place the crowns on the bosses' heads, but I expect their main purpose is simply to save the dozen extra polygons that would be needed to model those objects as cylinders. You need two tris for every square face on an object.
It's a mystery. On the n64, opacity masking a cone was very VERY expensive. My theory here is that it's not a cone, but the crown is repeated "like an array mesh modifier". If you were to show that cone in wireframe mode I think you would see just repeating shapes of the crown.
How? They got what they wanted regardless. It was a win win situation for them, either A) this channels video stopped using 8 seconds of their song (they win) or they get money from that video (they win) all the will this channel has to spend time that could be used making new videos to both delete the old video AND make a new version of it (universal wins again) I hate massive corperations like universal, but I don't see them getting "rekted" anywhere here... only getting what they want.

Subbed because he had to remake the video. Universal paid people to look for videos "with a lot of views" which makes me believe they wanted money for it. I don't think they care as much about a video that's about nothing to do with their product but uses 8 seconds of it (I don't know what was used I never saw the original video) as much as they care about making some money from people that have a lot of views using their product for how ever long possibly thinking they creator won't want to delete it because of how popular the video is and even if they don't make money from that video they still have traffic coming into their channel. I think they're in it for the money, maybe, possibly, probably not, either way I'm glad they did cause this video was fun to watch.
@tvercetti1 Oh, they do. They'll use Fair Use to their advantage in their stuff but they also know how to abuse it. Unfortunately, they're smarter than they look.
The reason they use those "cones" is because that basically welds all the vertices into one, thus optimizing the file size. I use it as well for my custom models for MKWii, and it's kinda helpful!
Aww man you taking the camera out of bounds in luigi's casino permanently destroyed my sense of wonder. Like deep down inside I knew there was nothing else actually modeled inside the casino, but I always wanted there to be more

10:20 it could be that the white plane was added underneath because the camera followed Mario, and they needed him to stop before the camera went through into the void, which might have happened if Mario fell fast enough through the rippling plane, which is obviously not solid

As a mario 64 player on DS since i dont have a N64, im glad you showed DS version.
9:20 (ish) That's Jolly Roger Bay, not Dire Dire Docks. You can tell because Dire Dire Docks doesn't actually have an above water section in the starting area (the only above water stuff is inside the cave with Bowser's sub)
I never realized how cross eyed Mario was, in Mario 64!
I loved that intro!
You know what I've always wanted to see? WHERE THE CHAIN CHOMP GOES WHEN YOU RELEASE HIM! Please do a part 2!😪
1:02 did not expect Mario to just *ASCEND* like that.
So the Whomp King wears an ice cream cone as a hat... interesting.
its a nice touch they used the casino music in mario sunshine in the luigi casino
Plot twist : Mario was wearing their vanish cap from when peach kissed him
Great episode, I think you absolutely did the right thing remaking it! Screw the big corporation trying to take the little man's money!
13:13 Wario looks pissed that Mario showed up
Wait, there’s not only impossible to access dialogue with Yoshi, but the translation team translated it?
1:45 thats a BRIDGE? I always thought its the castle walls...
I was gonna say how does that look like a wall but now it looks like he’s sitting on top of a very high wall
It's the bridge of Peach's castle
In the beta of SM64 DS, back when it was called SM64 x4, you could walk all around the castle. Maybe that’s why the castle is modeled from the back as well? It’s just a theory though! 😛
Hey man the ending you did for this really got to me. I could hear in your voice the pain you're going through. Just want to send my best wishes, and thank you for the very interesting video! I played that game 23 years ago, and it was so much fun to see the different way the game renders details, that the player would never know about. Gives you an inside look at the mechanics, which was really cool. You earned yourself a new subscriber, good luck with your channel!
Charles helped me to make memories of this series. As much as I'll welcome the new Mario actor with open arms, I never-the-less thank Charles for the voice work he provided while he still could.
Great video, I really enjoyed watching it. You are such a creative and jolly soul Shesez!
Saw the original video, watched this one anyway. Love your content dude! A LOT of hard work goes into this and you can really tell! Much respect ❤️
7:46 Whomp king killed in a waffle cone accident
The way that you handled the situation with Universal was very mature and professional, and the outcome was this amazing video!
Super proud of you!
Excellent video. I always wondered the details of how these games were made after first playing it 22 years ago.
4:01 did not know rec room was on the ds
10:20 it could be that the white plane was added underneath because the camera followed Mario, and they needed him to stop before the camera went through into the void, which might have happened if Mario fell fast enough through the rippling plane, which is obviously not solid
No waluigi just like in smash
Universal really got mad at you for using curb your enthusiasm for 8 seconds
That singular audio fit the situation perfectly
It's odd to find a video where the video is far better that the title implies. Great job.
Resident evil 2 you say?
Great video as usual! It sucks that big companies can just take all of smaller creators revenue.
9:20 I always tried to get up there looking for a secret
I gotta say I really appreciate Shesez... Not only for what I've learned, but how clean and genuine he is... Keep it up, Chief, you... are... awesome
!
So I’m assuming nothing’s actually behind the white door in the DS version? In the game, it plays the Boo sound effect when you walk in there before the characters walk back out.
Does anyone call him “sheesh”?
Good video she says
2:29 I saw that on my n64 emulator
It happens because it didn’t want the n64 crashing when the character is far away so they made this model
I am so glad you remade this instead of being made to pay on that.... You explained it good enough
