Rare Earth was signed with Motown. The Temptations & Gladys Knight & The pips also covered I’m Losing You. The Temptations recorded Get Ready and Rare Earth covered it.
Rare Earth was an American rock band from the late 60's-70's. They were one of the first big hit-making acts signed by "Motown" that consisted only of white members. Some of their hits were "I Just Want To Celebrate", "Get Ready", "Born To Wander", Hey Big Brother", "Warm Ride" etc.
Funky, soulful yet psychedic rock too - Loved it. Don't know which was first, but Rod Stewart (w/Faces), Temptations, and several others also did wonderful renditions of this song. Another example of how different artists have different adaptations. I really like the instrumental part of this version - great job.
I saw them live in a crappy bar in Ft. Smith, Arkansas in the 80s. They would blow a fuse about every 30 minutes. After about 10 min they would get the power back and play some more. This went on all night, but no one cared. Neither the band or the fans. They played for about 3 hours and brought the house down including the power.
Rare Earth was on the Rare Earth record label which was a Motown label. There were also a few other artists on that label such as R. Dean Taylor for example. This song was the first time I heard them in 1970 or thereabouts.
I really appreciate your playing Rare Earth, one of the best bands from my teenage years. But, more than that, you are great with your presentation, and how you get into the music, and describe your experience. Peace out, and love to you!
Thanks for doing this great tune!! I saw them in the early 70’s as a teen- I wasn’t mature enough at that time to fully appreciate them. I’m old and wiser now 😂
One of the great jam bands. In concert they were known for jams that would last for over an hour. On their Rare Earth In Concert album this song lasted for over 14 minutes but it wasn't the longest song. Get Ready was over 23 minutes on the album, cut down from an actual performance of something like 66 minutes but that was all they could fit on one side of a record. Rare Earth In Concert (aka The Backpack album) is one of my 3 favorite live albums by a single band.
I don't normally watch music reviews but you have the same inane face I have on Friday evening, when I put on this tack and get into the weekend vibe! And I was great to see you didn't feel the need to interrupt a fantastic piece of rock / funk vibe 😊
Rare Earth was not the only Motown act to cut “(I Know) I’m Losing You” after the Temptations in 1966; others were Gladys Knight & the Pips, Jr. Walker & the All-Stars, and more. Even Rod Steward did a version on his album Every Picture Tells A Story. Those old Motown tunes by the Temptations and Four Tops are still outstanding. What would the music world be without Motown? Great choice, Biz.
Yeah, anytime you want to load up some Rare Earth and feed it to us in FM full length, like this one, not lightweight shortened up for AM radio is alright by me. Live performance is awesome too. Whatever.
Biz, you've opened yourself up to some homework on this song. 1st, the radio edit is much more concise and impactful, then there's the Rod Stewart version and the original Temptations version... they are all reaction worthy!
Only white band signed by motown also seen rare earth with Joe cocker and Leon Russell meat the band they all sign the back of my tee shirt and the drummerdrawed his drum ket I've got it so cool aloha
Yeah. Rare Earth was just one of those band that had soul I thought this was the Temptations at first when it came out but nope just your basic funky soulful rock band from the 60’s 😄🤘
Lead vocalist was also the drummer, so he's killing it two times on this one.
Peter Rivera...just badass
Rare Earth was signed with Motown. The Temptations & Gladys Knight & The pips also covered I’m Losing You. The Temptations recorded Get Ready and Rare Earth covered it.
A very young Rod Stewart did a pretty good cover also.
Props to you. Most reactors wouldn't invest that much time in a song.
…..that’s why Biz is the “Best” reaction channel !🔥🔥🔥🔥

And maybe my personal favorite Long Time Leaving....then again there's Nice Place To Visit, yeah it is an impressive catalog to say the least
Loved their music 🎶 Had their albums... don't think they are recognized enough for their music 🎶🎶
Most people on first listen thought this was a black group, They definitely got SOUL😊
I appreciate your not interrupting the song & saving the comments for the end.
What a great arrangement of this classic, funky tune. I forgot just how good these guys were! Damn, those drums. Groovy.
This group is the definition of funky, groovy, absolute rock n roll spiritual joy. I just want to celebrate another day of life.
Anything from Rare Earth vinal or live, you won't be disappointed
Yeah, you gotta do I Just Want to Celebrate and Get Ready. Both are funky soulful bangers!
Rare Earth was dope! Great version of this song, my favorite one, they just let it rip. Do the extended Get Ready for more brilliance! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎷🎶
Funk Brother and guitarist for Rare Earth, Ray Monette. He is amazing.
Bro this vibe is timeless .
This band never failed to deliver , especially live .

"(I Know) I'm Losing You" is a 1966 hit single recorded by the Temptations. Then Rare Earth in 1970 and then Rod Stewart in 1971.
Thanks.@@Straydogger
this was originally a Temptations hit. They did it Rare Earth style. Both versions are great.
This era of music had such a distinctive vibe and feel. Nothing like it ever again - so glad at least someone like you appreciates it! 👍
A very underappreciated band, that can with the best of them!! Get Ready is just as good. Appreciate the reaction Biz!!
killer jukebox

When I first heard this, I went into shock, but their live version, off the knapsack album, shocker, produced by the great Norman Whitfield
He also is the co-writer of this song along with Cornelius Grant and Eddie Holland.

Get Ready is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.
I don’t think I’ve EVER heard the long version of this!
I know I hadn’t!
Thank you for reacting to my favorite Rare Earth song.

I remember The Temptations and Rod Stewart (Faces?) singing this.
Born in 1968. This is the music I grew up with. Feel sorry for today's kids.
Rare Earth Great, But Let's Not Forget It Was The Temptin Temptations That Made This A Hit.
Great choice. I love their cover of the song Smiling Faces. You would enjoy that.
Such a great psychedelic rock band. Really, all their music gets into the listener's head space & resonates. Thanks for your review.

I don't normally watch music reviews but you have the same inane face I have on Friday evening, when I put on this tack and get into the weekend vibe!

I remember hearing this at about 11 years old and it blew me away.
Thanks. Been a long time since I heard this band. Maybe 40 plus years!
Check out their live shows.➡️🎵☮️✌️
Great Review!
Nice!
I was here!
cheers man
It’s been a minute. What a great tune
Another great version of this song is by The Faces with Rod Stewart.
That was groovy
From Detroit.... excellent
Now you're playing with Fire! ❤😎👍
They cover several Motown songs as Motown signed them and gave them their own label . The cover of Ray Charles What'd I Say is a rocker
Rare Earth was great. I;'m partial to Born to Wander.
Long version. Thank you.
Rock n roll Motown...
Some young people r curious about this group,go listen to ..i couldn't believe what happened last night..rock,jazz,funk in 1 package,RE in a nutshell
Sick beat

Born to Wander, I Just Want to Celebrate are two I'd recommend next.
I just came back from country the second time. Maybe this is what I fought for?
Yeah, anytime you want to load up some Rare Earth and feed it to us in FM full length, like this one, not lightweight shortened up for AM radio is alright by me. Live performance is awesome too. Whatever.
They do a great version of Tobacco Road, try it.
You gotta hear the version by Rod Stewart, with the Faces backing him up!
Biz, you should check out the version of this by Uptown.
☮️💙💙💙🎸🔥
great tune brother, them is some funky white boys...singing drummers is a thing too!

Biz, you've opened yourself up to some homework on this song. 1st, the radio edit is much more concise and impactful, then there's the Rod Stewart version and the original Temptations version... they are all reaction worthy!

Listen to Rare Earth MA
Yeah. Rare Earth was just one of those band that had soul I thought this was the Temptations at first when it came out but nope just your basic funky soulful rock band from the 60’s 😄🤘
Second only to David Ruffin.
And faces version kicks this one too with rod stewart
Good choice: I haven't seen a lot of (read any) reactions to this one.
file this one under "epic".
PS review Rare Earth MA
Shredding in 1970, Apollo 13, Kent State, Nixon. At least the music was great!
Great cover. Like it better than Rod Stewart and Faces version.
The 11 minute version is pure ear candy! Such great funk! The 3 minute radio cut was butchery!
lol you are such a music head
Rare Earth is Bad. My oldest sister bought their albums
