"I Know I'm Losing You" and "Slipping Into Darkness" are pure FIRE!!!!
"Slipping Into Darkness" was not Rare Earth. That was the band War.
I Know I'm Losing You is The Temptations although it could be a Rare Earth cover. Motown was always having multiple groups sing the same songs. (More money for the publisher...usually Berry Gordy or Smokey Robinson or Norman Whitfield.)
Is exactly
Maybe "Slippin' Away" ?
I'm losing you was first done by the temptations but every motown group covered it, it seemed. A great cover of I'm Losing You is by Faces with Rod Stewart.
A great upbeat, joyous song! Also a great road trip song. The album Rare Earth Live - one of the best car cruising albums ever.
Also want to address Motown Records. I’m a 64 year old white male - who in my formative years (13-23) was transformed by Motown recording artists and shows like “Soul Train”. And many, but not all, of my friends growing up in a white, working class community were too. An exercise in anti-racism. Love your reviews.
A MUST HEAR Classic with an important & uplifting message,, Argent "Hold Your Head Up"
Peter Rivera, the drummer/lead singer, is still performing today in his late 70's and sounding great.
But he's not allowed to use the Rare Earth name. Probably contract bullshit.
He brought an entirely new way of recording drums. Sounds amazing for that time.
Gotta love Rare Earth. Also, another drummer on lead vocals.
"Had my hand on a dollar bill. And the dollar bill blew away. But the sun is shinning down on me and it's here to stay."
Talk about a great song of optimism! Awesome classic...
love that soulful FUNK❤️
Motown was so taken they gave them their own label...Their covers of Motown are classic I Know Im Losing You . Get Ready...and a deep cut Ray Charles What I'd Say
Drummer is the lead singer
Which I’ve always found to be incomprehensible. I have tried and failed miserably to drum and sing simultaneously. 🖖🏼
Gil Moore another great singing drummer.
Lives in Spokane, still plays occasionally with Joe Brasch.
@@ThePittsburghToddy how do you think I feel about that? I can't even drum or sing _separately_ 😢
One of the better singing drummers.
You should hear the Live version of this song along with I'm Losing You. One of the best jams ever.
The live version of Get Ready was 23 minutes on the album... and that was the cut down version! The actual performance of just that one song was about an hour. They were known to get into extended jams from time to time.
A classic piece of early 70s rock right here, and one I grew up listening to. A local radio station in Toronto had a program called Psychedelic Sunday that ran for over 20 years, all music released between 1965-1975. I was a regular listener and this was a staple - it pairs so well with summer sunshine, good friends and great times. Awesome tripping down memory lane with you guys this morning - much love from Canada!
Greatest so called decade of music 65-75 eh! ✌🏻
The greatest Motown rock in rock band ever ❤
My favorite Rare Earth song for sure! I remember loving this as a kid. Still love it now. I saw I a lot of good comments down below. The break down section reminds me of the group War , which if you haven't done anything from them, you really should. "Cisco Kid" , "Slipping Into Darkness" , "The World Is A Ghetto" and "Low Rider" would be great songs to do.
That drum break at the end is one of my favorites of all time. It's just filthy. Rare Earth also does a rock cover of GET READY that is juicy and phenomenal.
If you want to get really wild, do the full 23-minute live version of "Get Ready" from their In Concert album. It's an absolute banger.
that entire live album is Amazing!
It is amazing. Back in the day, I had a stero that recorded 8 track tapes. I recorded that live album and gave away copies. Everyone I knew had one. No matter who's car we got stoned in, we had Rare Earth.
If I'm not mistaken they we're the first white band signed by Motown.
The Motown songwriters Dino Fekaris and Nick Zesses wrote this amazing, jumping soul-rocker. It was one of Rare Earth's best
songs. One of the few white bands signed to Mowtown. Good call on your comments, guys. Can't imagine a world without
Mowtown.
Rare Earth was an early 70’s staple! Typical of the time, feel good, do good, share good. Great song, thanks for spinning it!
You need to hear Rare Earth’s cover of Get Ready. They really make it their own.
Yes, they were signed by Motown and their biggest hits were in the early 70’s, my junior high years😊👍🏼.
Love your take on this. I am learning a ton about Motown, but more about what made it that. This was just before my time, but what a sound! Love the channel. Please keep going!!!
What a voice 😅
I've always LOVED this song...such a glorious celebration of life!
A rare band where the Drummer is the lead vocalist, at least on this song. Rare Earth, who were from Detroit, Michigan, were the only all white band signed by Barry Gordy at Motown. They underwent many personnel changes over the years.
Check the song
It makes you happy right now( but it ain't gonna last too long)
From the album "back to earth".
Beautiful way to start a Friday morning here on the east coast. Rare Earth was a special group. They’ve done some Motown covers, I think, that are pretty awesome. La really gettin into this one! ✌️
yea they were, awesome band
BEST decade of music!!
I’m a disabled veteran and will never live another pain free day on this earth. But I have a play,it’s of “Music To Helo Me Feel Better”, and this song is on it. And if it doesn’t come up earlier enough when I hit shuffle, I skip until I get to it.
I did get to see them one time. They were the opening act at the original California Jam 1974. Greatest festival I've ever seen in person!
I don't know why I remember all of the words to this song and I'm nearly 70. Saw all of the rock bands at the Mississippi River Festival at SIU-Edwardsville, including Doobie Brothers, Steeley Dan, Eagles, Santana, AWB, etc...
One of those songs that got played at every party back in the day.
KEEP ON SMILING by Wet Willie. You'll like it. Trust me.
Both of u just head bobbin'! YYYEEESSS!!
Just a perfect song from the amazing 70s!!! Love this song, used to be on the radio all the time.
Before signing with Motown, Rare Earth had a contract with Verve, producing the unsuccessful album Dreams/Answers. In 1969, when the group signed with Motown Records, the company decided to have a rock division and created a rock label named for the band.
Proud to own the original 45 of this song. Rock on.
Peter rivera the lead singer is still around and performing and sounds great. Might want to a see him perform "get ready" on the Huckabee show. STILL BANGS THEM DRUMS TOO!❤
His voice is top notch to this day! He hasn't lost a note OR a beat!
I just wanna celebrate 🎶🥁🎸….Thanks for playing!
Now you need to check out the Live version video from the 1974 California Jam to see just how much this group seemed to Love the music they played.
Being 63 and growing up listening to the music you are just hearing is great because this means that the music will continue to be great and around for many years to come.
I enjoy your reactions and the discussions and song breakdown that you give.
Keep the reactions coming and continue to enjoy the music 🎶 🎵
It finally happened. I just listened to this in the car and thought it would be a great song for you. I get in the house and here it is. Fantastic song.
This is 100% feel good vibes.
Love these guys. They were Great! They have a Great live video of this.
Rare Earth was myy HS soundtrack. Killer band, and the best drummer vocalist of all time!
This band had a sound, man...Hard rock funk...
One of my favorites from that era.
Believe it or not, the band IS still together and they tour most every summer.
I agree with everyone else.."I'm Losing You" & "Get Ready" are must hears! Live is good but really, it's the studio versions that sound great & are what we were all listening to back in the day, on the radio & everywhere.
Please do them!💙💫💙💫💙💫💙
They got that vibe!
This is fun & funky. Their Best one is I Know Im Losing You. Another one of theirs is Born to Wander. Super band. Great vibe. Ever hear of the Chambers Bros- Please Dont Leave Me? Has a similar feel to this. Excellent group, real funk & soul!! I know your request list is long, just a suggestion. So much good music, you keep us groovin' 👍🏼 Glad you enjoyed this oldie!! Me too.
True definition of a band that crossed musical genres and fans
Love seeing you guys finding out the history of this music - this is what it was about in the 70's and I'm so glad you are going there. Keep it up!
The quintessential positive vibe track , gentlemen .
Never disappoints nor fails to give an attitude adjustment .
Blessings to you and your dear ones .
I just want to Celebrate another day of living❤
Super tight percussion section carries this great song !
Classic track from a great Motown band
Yep. That’s the way to do it
Rare Earth was really big in the early 70s. They were the band that brought Motown to white kids who might not have otherwise heard that music or at least heard it as much. I was one of those kids, growing up in a very white and country music dominated community. They headlined the first rock concert I ever went to. Five Man Electrical Band and then Don McLean came on first.
Great reaction! I remember buying the Get Ready LP when still in High School. The title song was great and was the whole 2nd side of the record...20+ minutes.
A real great song. Awesome!
Those were the days! 🎶🎶🎶👍
Still listen to this band today. Just whammie bar excellence. Can't get enough. This is not their only hit. "I'm Losing You" is another you should check out. Picture this live. Audience participation is off the charts.
one of the best songs ever
Fun stuff. I believe they were the first all white band signed to Motown Records back in the day They just had that certain thing going on with their music that was so tasty. Very good backyard & cruising friendly sounds.
One of my favourite bands. A good experiment Motown signing a rock band. There are epic LPs of several songs that run 21 minutes. Rare Earth is really a jam band and you can feel it in these epics. Unfortunately there were not a lot of cameras around their live shows so there are just a few examples.
Wow brings back memories. This was constantly played on the radio. Very positive message. We could use this song now.
White group with SOUL baby :) The drummer was a fantastic drummer and vocalist.
Beautiful, needed this today!🔥 Grateful 🙏 thank you!
A perfect blending R & B, Funk & Rock
& Roll!
the cover of the Motown hit Get Ready is must-hear Rare Earth
In Australia in the 70’s this was always being played at every party I went too, whole album is great ❤ same with Tim Buckley’s “Greetings from L. A” if you haven’t heard that album seek it out, it’s gold
GET READY!!! live video is a must see.
Excellent reaction guys! Best reaction channel around!
Wow awesome fellas. Keep it up and this rabbit hole is a great one to go down. I think y'alls channel is the best of it's kind on UA-cam. I watch everyday. Cheers!
Psychedelic funk! A powerful band from the hippie generation. Thanks for your reaction.
Get into War, Slipping Into Darkness, The World is A Ghetto, etc. Or their work with Eric. Undone.
The most positive song of that era...or any era.
Hey Big Brother is a great song by these guys
1970 in concert best album ever greatest words ever spoken on vinyl "let's get into 20 or 30 minutes of get ready we'll play it for as long as you want to get into it"
Always feel better when listening to this jam! Your reactions were great also. ✌🏼❤
You HAVE TO see this live. Fabulous.
Saw them in DC at Food and Wine Fest just set up on the street. Fire.
Love the comment on the mowtown connection. They did have that 70 s mowtown funk rock..put this record on next to a Sly and Family Stone record and tell me any difference.. Great call Airplay Beats. ! ❤
Enjoy your lives people
They did something called i couldnt believe...RE,in a nutshell, rock, jazz, funk!
Check out "Get Ready" and "I'm Losing You" fantastic covers of Temptations classics that Rare Earth covered!! Thanks for diving in!!
Never heard of them to be honest, glad you reacted to this.
I'm losing you by Motown, and faces with Rod Stewart fabulous both.also You should analyze War! Slipping into darkness,... great band! You guys break things down so gooood!
Thats the drummer singing. The song still make me feel good 50 years later.
If you can find this song done at the California jam you won't be disappointed you guys are playing some great music
Great song, this is the single version, it took up a whole album side and is an incredible jam. They have chops in spades, try I'm Losing You (the full version) for more evidence of just how good they were. You can see them live as well, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
There is no video of the full “Get Ready” jam but what they did to Smokey’s song is amazing!(appr. 20 minutes but Wow! Worth it!)
Another banger! Great choice!
Big John Is My Name! Funkiest song you ever heard!
Great reaction to a great song. Always love when this one comes on the radio -- so funky and such a rocker
Hope you guys decide to do a full album review of this record. Every song is a true gem. Love your guys reactions. Thanks can God Bless ☝🏻🙌🙏🇺🇸
All their songs have the rnb sound with heavy instrumentals that very few groups had back then. Their first album was in 69 called Get Ready. Start with that one✌🏼
Rare Earth did a great cover of the Temptations' - Get Ready and there's a live video of it on You Tube!
there is, what appears to be a "live" video, of them doing "Get Ready", a great RE song. The video may be a studio version duped over a live performance but at least you get a chance to see what they look like performing.
The Rare Earth live album is great
I Know I'm Losing you & Hey Big Brother are fire.
Oh Yeah Man! I just want to celebrate another day of livin. Enjoyin my stay on Earth while I can..
