  • Photos and videos taken over multiple days in August 2012 at Blue
Mountain Lake, located in the Adirondack State Park in New York.
There are some decent calls recorded. It's a shame that a passenger
airplane, rare in these parts, flew overhead during the calls starting
with the clip at 2:19. Perhaps the most fascinating part of the show
was witnessing a takeoff from water shown in the clip starting at 6:06.
Notice how you can hear and also see the webbed feet pushing on the
water to aid the long and lumbering takeoff. Imagine the delight of
sitting in our canoe quietly watching this beautiful creature and then
    witnessing this.
Photos and video were taken with a Sony HX10V, which has ably replaced
an old point and shoot as well as older and large mini DV camcorder. I
have not managed to upload it with the best quality but hopefully will
    do it another time.

Lovely, Paolo! Thanks so much for this! I spent 7 summers at Alice Lake in Hazelhurst, WI at Joy Camps, in the 1950's. Every evening, we could hear the Loons callin. I have always loved the sound, but never heard it again, in person. Now, at age 75, I reminisce & you have brought me a calm happiness in my old age. Thanks so much for this lovely video!

Thanks for sharing your experience, Sue. I'm so happy the video brought you some good cheer. There's nothing like the sound of their interesting and sometimes, somber calls. If you could find the time, I bet the Wisconsin Historical Society would love to hear about your stories and good memories. This link points to some information they posted on Joy Camps for girls. www.wisconsinhistory.org/Records/Article/CS4447
