How does Joanne Kennedy know this is the mother loon? During the breeding season, male and female loons share virtually identical plumage the only obvious difference is size, the males being about 25% larger than the females. Both sexes participate in parental care and males are more likely to be ride-givers than females.
So lovely. I was enchanted by the loons and the Adirondacks last year. I love them
