  • Learn from my mistakes.
    This video shows how to replace the shifter boot on an Acura TSX 2009-20xx vehicle, and this should also apply to European Honda Accord models. I used an inexpensive but good looking after market boot and almost got it perfect.

    This is actually a great diy video.
    I was gonna try it this arvo, but going to attempt when I have a full Saturday and not rush :)

      Thanks for watching. Have fun with your project. I found the new boot on Amazon, but it is no longer available. The OEM Acura/Honda version is quite expensive, so I think you will probably find a lower priced one on amazon or e-bay.

    Thanks a lot! I would have thought those were individual panels and probably would have destroyed something...
    Replacing my boot soon with one from ebay specifically made for this car.

      You're welcome. Yes, snapping off these types of panels without some instruction is flying blind and a bit scary, so I'm glad the video is of help to you. It's good you found a boot sized for the TSX. By the way, I used my heavy duty shop staple gun, using a wood backer to support the plastic frame. I then pulled the wood away from the staple and bent the tines against the plastic.

      @@PaoloFrancesco99 Thank you for the tips! Funny I have the same defects, I saw your vid on the left arm rest. That's the next thing I'll have to do. I'm a bit afraid of it since it's a bigger job.

      @@knipsi22 Ha! I'll mention two others you probably need to do. My darned fog lights keep cracking/breaking. I had Acura replace one twice and refused to pay them $100's again so I just left it cracked. The headlights are quite good on their own. Anyway, I found the light on Amazon for ~$70 and replaced it myself. Find a video to remove the bumper. That wasn't too bad. I also used a kit to clear up the hazy headlights. Now they and the car look so much better and I think the lights are even a little brighter.
      I don't know about yours, but my ride just keeps going. The engine still purrs at 168k miles (partly thanks to new piston rings and timing chain replaced on the oil burning warranty at 108k miles), and I'm still on the original clutch. Fixing these little things makes a difference and is satisfying. In the spring, I plan to work on paint scratches, most of which I have learned are really clear coat scratches.

      @@PaoloFrancesco99 I don't have problems with my fogs. How does that happen? Rock chips mabe? Thankfully all the problems with the car have been cosmetic so far. I've only had mine for a month. The first thing I did was headlight restoration. It was so bad, the authorites declared the car non road worthy. (yeah).
      I still have a few tings on my to do: Shift boot and maybe knob replacement, the arm rest, installing a backup cam, minor scratch removal and buffing.
      One thing I noticed is the very heavy clutch pedal on my car and it's also a bit squeaky. I will try lubricating it on the hinge.
      I freaking love that car and plan to basically keep it forever. It has 100k miles now.

      @@knipsi22 Before COVID, my commute was a lot of highway driving, and my front end is chewed up pretty badly from lots of little stones, including cracked fog lights. They're glass. Your clutch feel and sound could be an issue with the clutch master cylinder. I had to get mine replaced around 85k. I requested and received a discount since it seemed like premature wear. Something you can check.

      Thanks for watching. You won't believe this. I'm a perfectionist, and this job would be really easy to do the second time around. So, I went to purchase another on Amazon to redo mine. The product just disappeared! It's in my purchase history but can no longer be accessed. I wanted to give it a good rating too because it really feels like thick, soft leather. I ordered another one instead but, when I received it, it was thin, creased and felt like poor quality. So I went back to my original and adjusted the mounting points to eek out an 1/8th inch here and there. Now my boot is perfect without pulling out.

      I would go for another one, checking out reviews and customer pictures. If your original boot is ugly like mine was, even the one I returned above would be a big improvement.
      p.s. I also replaced the armrest that I showed and posted that project too. Much more involved, but worth it! I also restored the headlight lenses with a kit - an easy and worthwhile project.
