  • After battery change, if the check engine light is on plus cruise icon flashing, you have likely blown a fuse.

    Worked perfectly. Was freaking out when the check engine, ABS, Oil temp, hazard and slope lights all went on while driving home on a Friday. My local mechanic was closed until Monday. Saved me a weekend of worrying so thank you my friend!

    These dual symptoms appeared in my 2014 XV Crosstrek as well - Check Engine light on and Cruise Control indicator blinking. The Check Engine light alone usually means I didn't tighten my fuel cap, but the concurrent blinking Cruise Control indicator had me worried. Lucky I found this video. Turns out the fuse box layout of the 2014 XV Crosstrek is identical to the 2016 Forester. The 7.5amp fuse you point out is for the Engine Control Unit (ECU). My fuse was not blown, but simply removing-and-plugging-it-back-in cleared both warning lights. I still don't know what caused them to appear (I had not disconnected my battery recently). But I still want to thank you for this valuable information.

    OMG! You saved me. Went in on the weekend and there was no diagnostic team available. They said I would have to schedule an appointment during the work week. I happened on your video at the right time. Went out to my Subaru Crosstrek and you were right on! Same as Bat, I noticed the blinking cruise control light. I was able to pop it out and push it back in and it reset both lights. Thank you!

    Thanks for this! While my wife's battery was not replaced recently, she just started having a similar issue to what you described. Scanned the car and only found an EVAP Slow Leak P0450 code in memory. Did some digging and found this video. The fuse was not blown but had some corrosion on it and some heat discoloration on the leads. Cleaned the socket with some contact cleaner and installed a new fuse. Started the car and no lights (Check Engine or Blinking Cruise). She also mentioned the traction light was on also but I didn't see it myself.

    Thank you! Problem solved. My check engine light was on, traction conrol light was on, and the cruise conrol light was flashing. I checked the 7.5 Amp fuse you showed, and it was good. By removing the fuse and and replacing it solved my problem on 2008 Subaru Legacy GT.

    Had the check engine light, traction control light both come on with the cruise control light blinking on my Subaru Forester 2015 after not having the gas cap screwed in all the way. Screwed the cap in and unplugged/reconnected the battery to try to reset it but lights were still on. Unplugged this fuse and put back in after watching this video and the lights all went off. When this problem occurs on my 2006 Subaru Tribeca, this is the cause....
    When I get a blinking cruise control icon along with a solid check engine light and a solid traction control light,, it is caused by a vacuum hose leak. The hose is located in the engine compartment right in front of the driver. The check engine light is a farce as there are no codes present when this situation is happening. I just disconnected the battery when I replaced the $2 hose and it was all fixed!
    UPDATE 11\19
    The problem persisted and it turned out being a faulty gas fill cap seal!!! This was real cause for dash lights

      Hey you mentioned ur traction control light on as well? I’ve had this issue for the longest time. Car drives normal but the traction control light & ABS light come on every time I turn my 2011 Impreza on and drive for a few hundred meters. They come on at the same time typically when I tap the brakes. I gave up after all my interior lights won’t work, the lock/unlock fob on my keys doesn’t work for god knows why. And my check engine light just started coming on with a flashing cruise control light but the engine sometimes acts like it’s not getting power…then after driving for a minute it drives completely normal and the lights all stay on so idk.

    Ok so I have an 2017 Impreza tried installing lights, well I did install led fog lights and they needed to be hooked to battery which I believe made my whole dashboard go crazy, like he said engine light on traction on brake light on and incline on also my cruise was flashing and I couldn't use. I tried to unhook the battery which I did but the lights were still on ! So I went ahead and looked under the hood for the fuse box which isn't the same as your car... But I only have four 7.5 fuses so I took them all out and now All the lightssss are gone and off amazing thank you so much!!!!!!! Believe didn't like me adding that wire hook up to the battery

  • @OnionKnight541
    @OnionKnight541 5 років тому +4

    Worked for me (and I was worried that it wouldn't work). Thanks!
    And I should add: when I pulled my fuses (both 7.5 amp ones to be sure), they were *not* blown. So maybe there was a corrosion of the contacts? If anyone knows what was happening there, please inform me. But for others, know that the fuses do not have to be blown for this to work. Also, last point: when I tried to start the car after changing the fuses, it initially did not start. It tried to start for a few seconds, then I turned it off and turned it back on and it started up like normal.
    2nd Edit: I looked it up and that fuse is for the Engine Control Unit (or Electronic Control Unit). So, it's possible that pulling the fuse and replacing it simply resets the Check Engine light---while not addressing the issues that triggered that warning. I'm not at all sure. Anyone with more information, please reply.

    • @OnionKnight541
      @OnionKnight541 2 роки тому +2

      @@TRAXRIPPER Well, what I found out (in time) was that the wires connecting to each spark plug were a bit worn out and it was causing the engine to not fire well. Subaru dealer charged something like $400 for fixing those wires and the issue hasn't retuned. So if this is a common issue, look at the spark plug wires and that might be it.

    Wish that was all it was for us. We got 2015 Subaru Outback. We are in Australia.Only front wheels drive at the moment All dash lights are on eyes sight failure oil temp warning transmission temperature light flashing park break fail . First time the problem started all wheel drive was still working.took it in to Subaru in Victoria park Western Australia. Initially they hooked up their test computer.they said it’s a catalytic converter problem that would be $3000+instalation .we couldn’t afford to get it fixed. They cleared the fault codes.the dash lights went off for weeks. The problem randomly appears again. The next time I took it in they charged $200 just to put the computer diagnostics on. They said it’s a transmission problem we need to put it up on the hoist and take a look at it ,that will cost you 750 😂 I sad are you kidding me you just charged me to diagnose the problem with the computer and now you me to pay another 750 to continue investigating without anything being fixed ? Yes sez Subaru .lol sez I no no no .I don’t think so .bye the way a replacement CVT transmission will cost around $4000 plus installation ontop of the comp test 200 and then add the 750. For hoist investigation.this is just robbery .have taken car to transmission place the solenoids are burnt out. $2500 athe the moment So it’s fixed HELL NO TURS OUT SOMEWHERE THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE SOLENOIDS TO BURN OUT SO NOW ITS AT AN AUTO-ELECTRICAL WORKSHOP. I will never bye another Subaru,and I advise no one else to get one DO NOT BYE A SUBARU.THE SERVICE CENTRE DOSNT KNOW A CATALITIC CONVERTER PROBLEM FROM A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM ,BUT THE BARSTARDS WILL CERTAINLY CHARGE YOU FOR REPAIRING EACH OF THE REPAIRS JUST TO TELL YOU, YOU STILL HAVE A PROBLEM ELECTRICAL PROBLEM 😂 NEVER BYE A SUBARU ,YOU WILL REGRET IT .

Obviously, this is just a reset method that really doesn't solve actual problem. I tried cleaning the mass air flow filter and that didn't solve anything either. My dealer said my battery was shot and I needed a new battery, they offered to replace, I said I'll pass and was going to do myself. Started to work on battery and realized the battery was 1 year old to the day. Dealer had tested and said battery only tested to 50 cca left in battery. Once I realized it was only a year old, I tested, and it had 600 cca left. Glad I didn't have it replaced by them, can only imagine what they would have charged for that. I also replaced the brake light switch myself it took care of flashing lights, but it didn't last for even one full day. So, what do I have to lose, tried the 7.5-amp fuses. Glad I read that even if they don't show being blown replace them anyway. Both of mine looked fine, in fact I tested, and they both are still good. Replaced them anyway and guess what, no more flashing dash lights. I suspect this is just another way of resetting things but, I really hope they stay off for good. Gets frustrating trying to find a solution. Stay tuned to see how long they stay off!!! Thanks for the video!!

    I have a 2005 Impreza outback sport with the exact same issues. All my fuses are brand new. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

      Some folks reported just removing and replacing the fuse fixed the problem. I learned how to fix my problem by calling and talking to the head mechanic at a Subaru dealer. He told me what to do, I suggest you do the same.

    I pulled it out and it looked fine. Pulled out the other 7.5 to compare and they both looked good. Now my car won’t start. :(

    Subaru needs to put out a notice to owners. Mine happened not after a battery change but during a jump start. I followed someones youtube advice about the gas tank cap. At first it didn't do the trick but after a second start all the flashing lights disappeard and went back to normal. I don't know but it seems this only happens to Subaru vehicle?

    Wonder if that's what's wrong with my 09 Forrester. There's a receipt for a new battery in the globe box. Just bought this car and realy upset. Will have to take a look. Bet it's been throwing those signals the whole time
    Could be alot of things it seems friend. Truely hope I didn't get ripped off

    This same error happened to me, but was gas cap related. The cruise control icon will blink with check engine light on if your gas cap is loose or missing. For me, I took off the gas cap at a gas pump, but then had to restart the car to drive up to the next pump. So this error happened and didn't go away until I took out a bunch of fuses and put them back, which seemed to do a reset.
