Terrible. Took 1hr 16mins to check into the plane. On another flight (coming back), the plane was delayed 3 hours (inside the plane) then diverted to another airport entirely halfway through because they “forgot to call customs to stay open.” Also the WiFi never worked…
Short haul LHR>ISTANBUL, no reclining seats, no in flight entertainment, very poor leg room, only small bottle of water and nutri grain bar provided complimentary. In my opinion that is quite poor compared to similarly priced competitors.
The eastbound flight is always quicker due to the 'jetstream' which is basically a channel of air (and also effects our weather) that pushes the plane thus making it fly faster.
I flew from London to Belfast, and it was my first time on board one of their planes. It was a nice and comfortable flight. The cabin was clean and the crew handed out pretzels and water. I have nothing to complain about when it comes to British Airways.
I laughed when you were in the toilet!! At first I thought you were going to tell us how many people could fit in there.....and then when you said "especially if you want to get into..." I wondered where that was going!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank You Tim another great Vlog. You always give a whole picture of your journeys including transportation giving a wonderful insight of your experiences which gives anyone considering a similar journey an insight of what to expect. Well Done Tim
We went with British airways in 2017 first class to new York for our honeymoon they could not do enough for us and me being disabled it meant a lot to me fully enjoyed it 😊
@@ThreeFiddy1701 I remember getting into JFK from AKL on Air New Zealand (long flight!!) and there were two other flights one Korean Air and the other Lufthansa that arrived at the same time which packed the immigration hall, took us 50 minutes to finally see an officer, but thankfully was quickly out on the street with my bags afterwards. A few other people were continuing on to London or to mainland Europe so had to clear immigration and customs only to have to recheck their bags for their onwards trip with sterile transit obviously not being a thing in the U.S.
Two of the world's ugliest, saddest, gloomiest, homeless maggot-infested, and dirtiest cities. Held up only by their sheer size, fame, and decaying "importance".
You can get BA first seats for £2k or less return to the states on occasion, you have to look for the sale fares! Also it’s worth joining the executive club as it’s extremely easy to gain status and air miles which allows you to fly in higher cabins for not much money at all + loads of perks.
I'm a Brit from Newcastle but now live in Thailand. I've flown BA a lot. Good flight times, leave BKK late morning, arrive LHR with just a 2.5 hour wait for the flight up to NCL arriving 10.00pm. Total time from leaving BKK 16.5 hours. One thing you don't mention is the class between economy and business, it's about £130 more, well worth it, not only bigger seats with lots more leg room but you can use the business class lounge in LHR while waiting for the onward flight and your baggage is checked right through.
Thanks for this Tim! Going to New York for my husbands 40th in June so even more excited than I usually am for your videos! First time I convinced my husband to watch one of your videos with me given we are going to NYC and he was impressed!
Just recently stated watching your videos Tim. Love how you just stick to exactly what you are doing on your Travels and keep your dialogue on point. Had to laugh when you said about Ryanair and no Air freshener in their Plane toilets. Very true.
My most recent flight with BA was on the A380 to San Francisco in August. On that flight they served 2 meals & the food was good. The entertainment system you had on the that 777 is the same as the A380 & it’s a bit dated now. Some 777s have been updated & the 787 & A350 would have the new entertainment kit. When we landed in San Francisco it took well over an hour to get through security. My last trip to New York was in Dec 2015. It was great to see the Rockefeller Christmas Tree. My tip for that is to go at 6am in the morning as you have the Rockefeller Plaza to yourself with the all the Christmas lights lit.
The jet stream which sits at high altitudes and flows from west to east makes you have an incredible tailwind on your return leg, much quicker It’s also the exact reason the main prevailing uk wind is from the westerly direction, it’s the lower part of the jet stream creating a drag effect across the surface
There are so many flight reviewer on You tube that make it sound like unless you spend thousands it’s not worth flying. Good to see you made it to NY in one piece flying with the masses!
Flown BA to LAX (prem econ there and business back). It was absolutely great once on the flight. The only issue really was BAs online check in/web service which just seems to be beyond broken. I think even the check in kiosks in the checkin area didn’t work properly either. Thankfully a BA rep saw my struggle and just took me to the empty business check in to sort it out. Which was nice. It’s a complete mystery how they actually manage to function with an IT system as decrepit as that one. But other than that, T5 is great and the 777-300ER I went on had been freshly updated and it was just really good.
Love your videos Tim, you really are the best at what you do on YT in my opinion, making us feel like we are right there with you along for the ride. Always been interested in travelling to New York especially around Xmas time, looking forward to seeing your hotel choices etc
Fastest way into the city, is the “AirTran”-take to the Jamaica station (transfer to either the Long Island Rail Road to Penn Station, or Atlantic Terminal-if going to Brooklyn; or transfer to the “E” train to Manhattan); or the Howard Beach station (transfer to the “A” train, heading to Manhattan)
I went through Heathrow Terminal 5 to New York earlier this year and unfortunately it was not this experience. It was incredibly busy and queueing for security took absolutely ages, with what felt like one queue for the entire terminal. I think if you go in out of peak times it's much better though. The flight itself was very good though despite being seated right at the back of the aircraft, we had an empty seat next to us which was nice.
As a young un (7 years old) in September 1978, flew on a BA Super VC-10 from London to Abu Dhabi. Don't remember much I'm afraid. Pretty pointless contribution I guess.
10:01 honestly thought at the pause you were going to say how many people would fit in the toilet. Didn’t know where you were going with that sentence Tim!
It was a very good travel day blog today of you chilling out and relaxing waiting to boarding your plane flying from London Heathrow to jfk international Airport with British airways tim
The Tim I miss “There was one for first 12.5k I think I’ll give that a miss” Now flying living first class residences to the most expensive hotels. Love how the Chanel has grown to get him out of pontins accomodation!
Terminal 5 is honestly a fantastic airport, ive used the shuttle from Manchester a few times. its just a shame ive arrived a couple of times at my destination without my luggage 🤣
Hi Tim, love your channel. I’m living in the Hudson Valley area just north of NYC. I’m curious if you’ve heard about Atlantic City, New Jersey. We used to go there often, & I think it’s something to check those hotels out there.
As someone who went last year, you had a near replica of my experience. Looking forward to the rest of the videos, although I will be watching with jealousy!
WH Smith, airports and hospitals. R2D2 has took up janitorial job in Terminal 5. Last flew BA to New York 19 years ago on 747. Had automated check in at JFK all those years ago. Super vlog 👍
Nice. I’ve flown BA long haul a few times in my life, but less so in recent years and now I live back in York. But this has whetted my appetite for my forthcoming economy flight on BA from LHR T5 to Boston this coming January.
I like seeing the ridiculously expensive hotel stays, how the other half live stuff, hope there's some of that in your New York jaunt, will have a gander at your next vids, cheers.
Booked an Easter holiday with my daughter for next year, travelling with BA, premium economy, looking forward to the extra leg room😊 Thanks for your video, really nice!
Tim you certainly expanding world wide adventures when are you extending your journeys to the Southern hemisphere or 🇨🇦 Canada then that would be special
I didn’t know they flew to Baltimore!! BA also fly to San Diego on the West Coast and is one of only three long haul international routes that service SAN (the others are Lufthansa from Munich and JAL from Tokyo Narita). All the other international flights SAN has originate in Mexico or Canada.
Tim, I’ve been watching your video reviews intermittently. I watched your account of the journey to Dubai with Emirates and the 7 star Burj Arabia (I think it was called). Your work is addictive! You’re addressing your phone camera pretty consistently so the staff on planes and in hotels must be aware that you’re doing a review. I like the pacy editing of your narrative. You’re performing an excellent task for all travellers in your wake. Premium prices should be subjected to rigorous testing. Thank you. 🙏🏽
I have flown BA for the past 30 years. Yes the product has been though some changes over the years. The new 1st and club WT products are really nice. Not been in the economy cabin for a few yrs now.
Flew them once when our connecting flight was canceled, so we were seated separately all middle seats 😫. I don’t remember it being a very good flight, it was just a no frills flight. Arriving in the US and the whole long wait at the customs/immigration line - reason why I’m not planning to travel there anytime soon!
Great video but I am very surprised that you didn’t plan how you would get from the airport- the best way we did was air train to Jamaica then LIRR to Penn Station then subway. Our first time we did do Yellow cab but that is really expensive and you can get stuck in traffic
Just got back from JFK, great hotel opposite the WTC, and unbelievably the cheapest I could find when I booked it - despite being 4*! Be good to compare it to yours. Ps. Went via Amsterdam and got a business class return for 1.5k. Top tip for good deals.
I've flown BA twice - this past May and June. I enjoyed my flight although the video screen was dark to London. I've read so many complaints on a site on Facebook dedicated to BA's service. There seems to be some nightmare experiences, but I can say they treated me very well. I flew Economy Plus and for the time I flew from SFO, well worth the price. Thanks Tim, as always.
I flew with BA to Mauritius in September and it was the most uncomfortable flight I’ve been on (14 hours, bearing in mind I’ve done non-stop to Perth before). It was the worst food I’ve had on a BA flight ever and the entertainment system was odd. It was like season 3 of a show, so how do you get into a series if you can’t see it from the beginning. I have damaged my coccyx earlier this year so I’m sure my lack of comfort was down to that than the old feeling plane I was on. I really don’t think I can fly until my back is healed so thank you for letting us travel with you! 😊
Great travel vlog. I avoid BA whenever I travel to the USA not a pleasant experience and that includes the staff. New York is one of my favourites so look forward to your other vlogs!
Excellent video, Tim. I’m surprised that the plane was boarded with an air bridge - sounds like with the bus journey, it was actually at another terminal! Hope you had a great time in NY
I used to be one of regulars on BA to Asia. Pricing were always liberal and even I had to fly exactly the same route back for 3 hours (Extra 6 hours). Sometimes they flew over my home. Then they stopped flying from Riga for some years and now they are back. I am eager to go to some Caribbean islands with them.
Hi Tim I just got back from New York early this morning with British Airways from Gatwick, they have wifi which is the best bonus and I was there with my boyfriend from Friday to yesterday and from early this morning landed back in the uk. On the way back it took 5 hours and 58 mins
Love that tea 😊 I never flew with BA to new York to be honest never being there either , I did stop in jfk going to fort Launderdale. Thanks for sharing hope u have great time there
I went with BA to New York years ago flight was great but the food was dire , they let me sit in the cock pit for landing ( pre 9/ 11 ) which was amazing
Bus boarding for a long haul flight is diabolical 🤣 I had that experience flying from Frankfurt to Dubai a while ago and boarding alone took about an hour and a half. Anyways great video - I'm flying this exact route in economy next month, and since I've never flown BA long haul before, I better be prepared :D
It’s faster on the way back because you get a big tailwind on the way back with the jet stream, a headwind on the way out. They try and plan the routes when doing flight plans to take advantage of the tailwind and minimise the headwind. Virginia doesn’t strictly have first class - its business class is probably somewhere between ba business and first. I’ve only flown business with ba, and one of those occasions was a free upgrade, as I’d complained about lack of passenger assistance. I once paid at check in to upgrade on way back from New York - paid £250.00 - cabin had a couple of empty seats. Last time, I paid for non flexible flights in business which worked out about £2,000 return, for sleeping in economy. Frankly, I preferred Qantas premium economy, but they don’t fly Heathrow to new york
Hi Tim love these travel videos feels like I'm hitchin' a ride along going on holiday myself. Have never flown from Heathrow but might go there just to tease the robot cleaner! Waited in vain for the suitcase to start twirling again at bag drop! £70 to guarantee window seat is something I would defo do for peace of mind. Standard class looked good but Business class looked amazing. Interesting you included the creepy pre-flight 'thankyou' video that was odd. Always fun trying to negotiate the public transport after landing - especially subways & trams ! Very thorough video well done!
Nice video Tim 1. The jet stream is the reason flights back from certain parts of the US are quicker than the outbound 2. I've seen business class rtn from £2k, not tens of thousands 3. As for paying £70 for seat selection.... there were window seats priced at £54. Those double seats at the back of the plane are always sold for a premium, as there are very few and are perfect for couples. Not worth chancing random assignment and hoping for a window seat, London - NYC is a very busy route and pretty much fully booked as you saw in seat map 4. If you have silver or gold status with BA, seat selection is free.... so really worth signing up for their FFP. Also lounge access is complimentary.
Have you flown with British Airways? What was your experience? Tell me below 👇
Can't wait for your New York vid, I'm a city girl and I loved New York, stayed at a hotel opposite Madison Square gardens 😊
Terrible. Took 1hr 16mins to check into the plane. On another flight (coming back), the plane was delayed 3 hours (inside the plane) then diverted to another airport entirely halfway through because they “forgot to call customs to stay open.” Also the WiFi never worked…
Yes, few times to Australia. No complaints 👌
Loved it. Can only compare with Iberia and Latam for a long flight, but BA is miles better, I reckon. T5 is superb to fly out from
Short haul LHR>ISTANBUL, no reclining seats, no in flight entertainment, very poor leg room, only small bottle of water and nutri grain bar provided complimentary. In my opinion that is quite poor compared to similarly priced competitors.
The eastbound flight is always quicker due to the 'jetstream' which is basically a channel of air (and also effects our weather) that pushes the plane thus making it fly faster.
I thought that lol
Indeed, prevailing winds towards the UK.
I thought it was because coming back the journey was downhill...
Yep
@tommykarol where isn’t Tim from?
For someone that has never flown I appreciate these videos, thank you.
Tim, always look out for your videos. Always authentic and not trying to be someone you're not. Very refreshing!

definitely
Yes until you land in JFK, the 'glamour' falls rapidly off a cliff at that point ...

I flew with Air France and KLM to New York in March and they were fantastic - The food, drinks and overall flight.
Thank you for the airport nostalgia!
Nice video Tim
1. The jet stream is the reason flights back from certain parts of the US are quicker than the outbound
2. I've seen business class rtn from £2k, not tens of thousands
3. As for paying £70 for seat selection.... there were window seats priced at £54. Those double seats at the back of the plane are always sold for a premium, as there are very few and are perfect for couples. Not worth chancing random assignment and hoping for a window seat, London - NYC is a very busy route and pretty much fully booked as you saw in seat map
4. If you have silver or gold status with BA, seat selection is free.... so really worth signing up for their FFP. Also lounge access is complimentary.
Look forward to your New York videos. Love that city.
