I also flew 1st to and from Chicago earlier this year. The upgrade from Business was a a crazy amount, a few hundred each way and I thought why not. As I went into the lounge coming home Harrison Ford walked out and we bumped into each other, I was so star-struck I just stood there in amazement! I enjoyed the flight, the service was ‘1st Class’ and the food on the aircraft was lovely. If the deal is right I’ll upgrade again, not sure I could spend the money to fly up front at normal flight costs!
Yep - I had the same from Chicago. It was £150 to upgrade from business to first so I paid for it myself over expenses. Only 3 of us in first, 2 crew, both lovely. Watched a film whilst eating, had a nice sleep.

I was not impressed by this menu at all. I paused my video to read each section, but a good majority was inedible for me due to certain foods I'm unable to eat because of health issues. I thought I was only going to be able to choose the chocolate cookie, but when I saw that the tomatoes were beside the beef, the beef could be included, yet not exactly a great meal. I'd be ordering well ahead of the flight. Wasn't impressed by this menu, too many fancy items and no 'normal' food.
@@robertmawby3021 Yes, I understand that there are other offerings when ordering ahead of time. Back when I was flying considerably more and was seated in First Class due to being classed as staff, I had no issue with the food. Since these personal cubicles have been added, the menu has become fancier and not necessarily to everyone's liking. All airlines need to remember that not all passengers want something from a Michelin Star restaurant and are happy with nicely presented regular meals.
I got a free upgrade from business class to first class on BA last summer flying back from Seattle to Heathrow. My seat was a slightly newer version than yours (on a 787) and it felt a bit more private. I agree with you about the food - it was ok but not great. It was a nice experience to have for free, but for me I wouldn’t pay the premium over a decent business class

That's the old First class cabin. BA has refreshed the first class and the new planes will have the new design (32" screens, private door, tablet to control the cabin, etc), being released in Q1 2025. There's a new official video here in UA-cam with the new design, looks amazing.

Really enjoyed this vid Tim ... the best part is you got a great deal & enjoyed some spoiling with lovely touches. That lounge was nice enough I would have hoped for maybe an hour's delay :). Thnx for taking us with you! ✈
It really does. The new Club World business class suite is very similar. I wonder if the new 1st class suite has had an overhaul and made much better than this.
I recognised Chicago airport from Home Alone 2 when Kevin’s running after his dad and follows the wrong one where it splits off. Great vid Tim, as always. Enjoy your first Christmas in your new home. ❣️
I would say that British Airways First Class gets a de facto positive review via this video as there was nothing reported that “gutted” you. Must be been an overall positive experience for this flight. ✈️
I flew LHR - HND, a 14 hr flight! The cabin crew this flight were phenomenal. Even though I have no status, my order was taken 1st (the cabin was full). The food was delicious although the fish could have done with a small jug of that sweet sauce! Got about 7 hours of solid sleep.
BA Suites in First normally come with a guide to the seats facilities. Also one of the sides is seasonal veg I’m surprised you weren’t offered that if you didn’t ask for it. I got a return to NYc for New Year for £2800 and a First Return to Cancun flying via Miami in Jan for £3320.
Yep Tim, in the US we don't have any regulation such as optics on alcohol, so you can pour those drinks yourself! I grew up in London pulling pints and holding that glass up to the optic. Lived in the States for 30 years now. No restrictions here😂
We flew first on BA on our way back to Las Vegas from a wonderful European holiday this last summer. It was almost the same in every detail except the Lounge at Heathrow was lovely. And we were very glad to be there because we had a 6hr layover between our little pond hopper from Athens to London and our first class flight on an Airbus 380. Flight was 10 hrs and British Airways were delightful.
My paternal cousin got her ‘dream job’ at 18 with BA based out of Birmingham so 1974. After a few years she moved to London and worked out of Heathrow on long haul. I'm posting this on your most recent video hoping you will see this. In Michigan, USA there is an island that is so lovely. Mackinac Island. You have to go to Mackinaw City, take the ferry to the island. About $15. per person, one way. There is a wonderful movie, Somewhere In Time. With Jane Seymour & Christopher Reeve. The movie was filmed on Mackinac Island at The Grand Hotel that hosts a Somewhere in Time Weekend at the end of October every year. Things that set the island apart - No cars are allowed on the island Most of the houses were built in the 1800s Mackinac Island is famous for their fudge To get around on the island people use horses or bicycles or on foot A Mackinac Island taxi is a horse drawn carriage The number of reservations at The Grand Hotel for the Somewhere in Time weekend often sell out. I bought my tickets in February for my stay in October. It was a marvelous, magical time.
Hi Tim, I love planes and seeing Heathrow again was lovely. I have never flown anything other than economy so this video was fabulous to watch and I love how you tell us the costs at the end. I have a new bucket list item now, better start saving. Love from Australia 🦘❤
I love travelling with you..I used to fly do much when I was younger and I do misx it so much..but now I travel with uou and I feel great..thanks mate!!!
The reason why it was cheap: short flight; overnight; not flying from London Heathrow (where the onboard catering and ground experience is better). Those seats are quite old now but were considered revolutionary at the time when BA were leading the way in inflight service. However, those seats are what people would now consider to be a business class seat. The new First seats are very new; not sure if any are in service on any aircraft yet?🤔 P.s. A shame your flight didn't include the famous afternoon tea service (the full proper one). Although, your flight was short.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, Tim! I haven’t flown BA for many years, but it’s good to see that they treated you well! Look forward to seeing the next one!❤

Yes, I have seen an airport that big. I live here in Chicago! 😊 I think the next time I fly to London, I'm going to try British Airways first class. Looks like a nice positive experience. Thank you for posting!
Most international airports are huge... Changi, Suvarnabhumi etc
It looks like when you landed in London, the weather was pretty good. Blue sky, and sunshine!
A gorgeous airport Tim and huge 😮 it looked more like a shopping mall , your definitely lacking a door on the plane , good quality seating and food with posh cutlery love it ❤
Always a treat to sit down at the TV and watch your videos with my grandchildren! Thanks x
Tim, your editing and quality gets better and better, and it's great to see that it translates to subscriptions! Your work pays off and I'm happy for you😀
It's good that you do point out sometimes that you won't just sleep and chill on a flight like this and that it does take time to record the video. I often wonder if you have any spare time for yourself when in hotels, seeing how much footage you produce and then edit. It does show that the work is in forefront for you. All best!
Much appreciated! yes also no one see how i had to rush the meals through very quick , set up the different angles and then try to get some sleep lol but as you can see i had breakfast just as we are landing
@@WalkWithMeTim Tim we can see the different angles, it adds to quality! Also, how you can record with lights when your cabin neighbours are sleeping, must be a careful operation not to upset them! I think your regular viewers see this. I certainly can! Hope you got to UK with enough energy to find your way back home lol
I am really enjoying these flight vlogs. They are a bit of escapism and an insight into travel. I miss the films with Casper and the interaction between you, it was a rare and lovely thing. Happy for your success.
Definitely the home alone 2 airport, you caught it perfectly
Great video, love the decs at the airport, it’s was nice to see tea served in a tea pot. Disappointed with the sizes of the cookie lol.🥰🥰
Loved the American series great work
That's the old First class cabin. BA has refreshed the first class and the new planes will have the new design (32" screens, private door, tablet to control the cabin, etc), being released in Q1 2025. There's a new official video here in UA-cam with the new design, looks amazing.
I haven’t had a very good week Tim but your videos have made me smile today
Glad to hear it ;-)
Love your channel. Came across your videos and have watched many of them. You are down to earth on your videos which is refreshing.
I’m American and I’ve never seen a salad vending machine… that hot chocolate looked delicious.. looks luxurious, and pretty cheap!
Great video as always Tim! Missed a trick also, that terminal you walked though with the Christmas decorations was the terminal from the Home Alone one and two movie 🎄🤜🏼
You'll shoot your eye out, kid! 😂👍
Enjoyed that Tim, lovely to see the pot of tea service lives on. Many thanks.
Did you realise you were at the Home Alone airport?
i did but forgot to mention ;-)
I thought it looked familiar 😂
I was about to ask if it was the same one
Last year when I was in Chicago I went to the Home Alone house. It was a short train ride from downtown to Winnetka. Just saw it is currently for sale for only $5.25 million!
@@Tasboy2 yikes!!
Really enjoyed this vid Tim ... the best part is you got a great deal & enjoyed some spoiling with lovely touches. That lounge was nice enough I would have hoped for maybe an hour's delay :). Thnx for taking us with you! ✈
thanks Sherry
The lounge, seat and setup look like business class.
No
Agreed! Not even close to EK First.
It really does. The new Club World business class suite is very similar. I wonder if the new 1st class suite has had an overhaul and made much better than this.
Eitihad Business on the 380 is similar level to this service.
Agree!
I recognised Chicago airport from Home Alone 2 when Kevin’s running after his dad and follows the wrong one where it splits off.
Great vid Tim, as always. Enjoy your first Christmas in your new home. ❣️
Im watching this in the bath 😊 for you all wondering there is only space for one in my bath! 😂
Cute, love it, even though it took a second to compute, "how many people can fit in the shower":)
You can Always Fit 2 in a Tub .... If You Know What You're Doing!
🤣🤣
only 1 , aww shucks 😁
😂😂😂
I envy you. That is where I usually watch from but due to breaking my femur I am still not sure about getting in and out
The tea set matching the table actually made my day.
love your channel Tim especially the flight ones. you're great to watch i loved the train video the other week pls do more train vids! x
Thanks Cole
Never travelled first class but its on my bucket list. Hopefully i will be able to afford it one day. Thanks again Tim. Food did look good.❤❤❤
I would say that British Airways First Class gets a de facto positive review via this video as there was nothing reported that “gutted” you.
Great vlog virgin Atlantic upper-class is so much better than BA & less money!!
It's so adventurous! You're so brave, and British Airways made a pleasant vid.
Glad to see another video from you today! One of my favorite channels! 👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome. But if I go first class, keep my champagne glass topped up
Yep Tim, in the US we don't have any regulation such as optics on alcohol, so you can pour those drinks yourself!
I grew up in London pulling pints and holding that glass up to the optic.
Lived in the States for 30 years now. No restrictions here😂
Enjoy your first class Tim from Andrewmay in Yarmouth
We flew first on BA on our way back to Las Vegas from a wonderful European holiday this last summer. It was almost the same in every detail except the Lounge at Heathrow was lovely. And we were very glad to be there because we had a 6hr layover between our little pond hopper from Athens to London and our first class flight on an Airbus 380. Flight was 10 hrs and British Airways were delightful.
My paternal cousin got her ‘dream job’ at 18 with BA based out of Birmingham so 1974.
After a few years she moved to London and worked out of Heathrow on long haul.
She ❤ it and in the 80’s she would get all sorts of perks and the pension was amazing
By 1991 she was married and had a baby.
She took time off
She went back in the 00’s as ground staff at terminal 5
When Covid came in 2020 she was made redundant - she was one of 12,000
She does not fly BA now
It’s gone down the pan
❤️❤️🏴🏴🤨🤨🤨🥴🥴

Great video, just found you! Hats of to you for respecting people's privacy whilst filming thanks for doing that, not all on YT do! I am now a 'follower' 😊
All I could picture in the airport was Kevin’s family pegging it to make their flight to France in Home alone 🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏽♂️➡️🤣🤣😍
That was an expensive upgrade, but at least the experience was very nice. The plane was old, but the area, dishes, etc. looked to be in fine order. Thanks as always Tim for showing us around. It was another excellent job. Have a great one
Things that set the island apart -
No cars are allowed on the island
Most of the houses were built in the 1800s
Mackinac Island is famous for their fudge
To get around on the island people use horses or bicycles or on foot
A Mackinac Island taxi is a horse drawn carriage
The number of reservations at The Grand Hotel for the Somewhere in Time weekend often sell out.
Enjoy Tim 😊
The fact that we get free travel review videos on UA-cam by Tim is priceless ... Keeping knowledge and entertainment alive.
🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏🤷
Definitely needs a door on the compartment
I love travelling with you..I used to fly do much when I was younger and I do misx it so much..but now I travel with uou and I feel great..thanks mate!!!
The reason why it was cheap: short flight; overnight; not flying from London Heathrow (where the onboard catering and ground experience is better).
Those seats are quite old now but were considered revolutionary at the time when BA were leading the way in inflight service. However, those seats are what people would now consider to be a business class seat.
The new First seats are very new; not sure if any are in service on any aircraft yet?🤔
P.s. A shame your flight didn't include the famous afternoon tea service (the full proper one). Although, your flight was short.
I remember flying first class on Air France instead of their Concord just for my time in the skies.. well worth it
All thats missing from that airport is the mcalisters running late
Thoroughly enjoyed the video, Tim! I haven’t flown BA for many years, but it’s good to see that they treated you well! Look forward to seeing the next one!❤
Tim - random fact...you flew out of the same airport that was used in the film Home Alone. Chicago airport was where the McCallisters ran to catch the plane to go to Paris for Christmas 😊
Hello Tim I love the flight reviews as I was a flight attendant for years! British Airways one of my favs for sure but so disappointing that you did not have a privacy separation in your pod. It always makes the experience that much nicer!
