How I Shade A Rose Tattoo

  • Have you ever asked yourself Where does the shading go?
    In this video I walk you through my approach and thought in which I take to achieve a desired result.
    In this video we will be going over the entire process from start to finish from applying the stencil, outlining the rose, and where I apply the shading and why.
    I want to point out that this is not a tutorial on how to properly shade a rose tattoo, or how to shade, or the correct way to go about shading. This video is sharing my approach and thought process behind shading and why I put the shading where I do. This is not by any means the only way to approach shading, so take what you want and leave what you don't.
    For this tattoo I used my trusty CNC WE Tattoo Machine along with 3 stigma needle cartridges. The sizes of the needles I used were #10 11 & 09RL for the outline and a #10 03RL for the shading.

    Hello Daniel, im starting to apply shade to my tattoos and your videos are helping me out so much, im so thankfull with you, i have a doubt...How you alternate into the only black cape ink and the half and half, how it works in the shade.? First a layer with the half n half and then to darker some parts you use the full black? or you pass the half n half until it gets the desire darker?...thats my doubt...Greetings Master

    If anybody doesn't use speed stick and uses stencil stuff/dettol etc, apply a thin layer of baby powder to your reelskin before applying the stencil stuff this will allow it to go tacky (which it doesn't do without powder) so you get a decent stencil

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому +3

      I’ve heard a few people mention this but I personally have no knowledge about this specific. I have never tried it, I enjoy using the speed stick as its kind of ole faithful now. Haha I can depend on that speed stick for practicing. I personally love stencil stuff on human skin, it works very well!

    • @lukedorrington7455
      @lukedorrington7455 2 роки тому +2

      @@DanielYuck I bought stencil stuff recently after so many people recommended it. I personally just use neat dettol purely because I can buy 500ml for just a few pounds here in UK, I have liked stencil stuff so far but compared to dettol it's very expensive and not so much better that I will be swayed to use it permanently.

    (still learning so these might be a dumb questions)
    Would you be able to achieve a similar effect with a curved mag? if so is there a reason you chose to use the 3rl over it?
    PS: Great content keep it up!

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому +5

      Thank you for your support. I appreciate you!
      That’s a question I’ve asked as well!
      For me the reason I use a 3RL is because I can put the black in with precision because I’m typically doing small mini tattoos or tattoos with a lot of details that would make it for me personally more difficult to do with a Mag.
      Let’s say it’s a big like back sized piece or certain area were more open with less details that required shading I would use a round mag for that approach. I think it’s also a personal preference thing where 1 may feel more comfortable with this approach while another feels more comfortable with this approach.

      Run a line and clean it off if it's solid and crisp you have the right voltage for your individual handspeed provided you were at the right depth, shadings the same drag your 3rl if the dots you leave behind are equally spaced your voltage is correct for that technique and your individual handspeed

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a great question!
      I remember when I used a coil machine with a cheap power supply where the voltage was kind of accurate. So knowing that I couldn’t trust the voltage or even see a voltage I would use my ears. If the machine was running smoothly and pushing at a healthy sounding voltage I would kind of just leave it there and adjust my hand speed to that voltage.
      The machine in my opinion shouldn’t be screaming or anything like that, that would also depend on the machine itself. Some maybe more loud over others but overall the sound and vibration from the machine will guide you in a healthy direction.

      Thats another great question!
      Yes! You can use whatever needle sizes you have on your end. That would work fine. A good valid email that you can submit your work to would be YuckMadeThis@gmail.com

    what voltage?

    • @DanielYuck
      @DanielYuck  2 роки тому +1

      Great question my friend!
      For the lining I ran at about 7 volts and for the stipple shading I ran at about 5.5 volts.
      I feel it’ll be different for everyone and no one will perform the same way. I would mess with different voltages in my first days to see what was too much what was too little etc. This is how I was able to get a bit more comfortable and find what voltages worked for me.

      Great question!
      Lining was done at 7.5 volts, shading was done at 5 volts even.

    needs solid black for contrast and definition. if that was on real skin, it will look hella blurry down the road.

    Yuck ,I follow you so I can see the relation of learning from when I started for quite some time ....the best advice I can give that has helped me a bunch when stipple shading, that will set you apart from the rest is try to keep the same hand speed & when darker areas need to be darkened try to keep same hand speed with cross hair shading technique instead of going faster ...tattoo will come out nice and cause less stress on the wrist ....your great though 👌 keep up the videos I watch them at night after preparing my skins for the next day

    Not a fan of dot shading at all! But good work tho! A trick not to whait 8h to your stencil ti dry! Use an hair dryer😉 its done in 2 minuts!

    Doing it that way you’re loosing all kinds of ink! It’s way different tattooing on fake skin than real!
