Fun Fact. I worked in an FLGS when I was in High School in San Diego. We ordered a bunch of them for the sole purpose of copies of the tapes inside. Then we just kept playing them in the store off and on to mess with people. "I'm a Gobbo" being our personal favorite. Damn I'm old now...

So the only reason I knew this game even existed before watching this video is because Louise from Rogue Hobbies has a copy of it on her set, which is slightly surprising since she is younger than the game itself, but then not surprising at all considering "little guys" is kind of her thing. Surprised she didn't randomly pop up in the video because I think she would have been totally up for it.
I suspect that "Oi! Dat's my leg!" and the other troll games are actually fully canon and that everything depicted in the games is just the cartoonish version of reality going on inside each troll's head. Sort of like the pyro in team fortress 2.
They even chant "'ere we go" over and over, just like the Orcs/Orks/Orruks.
@@arandomlostsoul753 lol yep! Though that gives credence to the theory that orcs are just English football hooligans, so maybe this is actually all set in some metaphysical Premier League? A setting nested inside a setting nested inside a setting... It's like setting-ception...

I've played the Assassinorum game twice, back when it first came out and it was...actually kinda solid as a stand-alone game experience! Definitely better than one would expect for a game that was most certainly a vehicle for selling the new plastic assassins first and only on second thought a stand-alone board game.
I actually got the game without the models off ebay, since I already had all the old metal assassins. It was a nice little asymmetrical game, probably not worth the full retail price - but that tenner (or so) was well spent.
Two of my mates got into a massive argument playing this (we were kids I hasten to add) and one of them stormed off home. But that's the high stakes world of Oi! Dat's My Leg! for you I guess...

We used to play this at my local games club (the tape was mandatory). The ere we go song is a scar in my brain from those days (and one that just goes troll troll troll). I cant say I remember the gameplay of this or trolls in the pantry but the combination of the music and the randomness of the game are a happy but weird memory!

There's been some research into how the plushie Cthulhu dolls all over the internet; the dolls make Cthulhu look like a big-eyed cartoon child, turning a horrific body into a cute one. The implications of this are tiresomely complicated, but looking at the comparison of the Squiggly Beasts in these games to mid-period WFB squigs it looks like something very similar has been done to the Warhammer mythos here; the eyes are bigger and the terrifying fanged maw has been replaced with a gummy smiling mouth. There have been - no joke - multiple peer-reviewed academic papers published about those Cthulhu plushies, so perhaps something similar could be done relating these games to the ever-darkening Warhammer mythos.

I was a childhood owner of a ( now long gone) copy of Trolls in Da Pantry. I remember it being fun for 30 mins then never playing it again.

You know, its not that hard to believe these gobbos are a part of Warhammer's setting. This is just how THEY see themselves and the world. Look at that cute lil' squig! Aw sure, he has sharp teeth, but he's just an adorable blob who gives lovebites. Just like how we see ferocious apex predators with razor-sharp claws and a mouth that can open wide enough to swallow prey in just a couple of bites as an adorable kitty. ...oh god, are we the gobbos?

Yes! I had Hungry Troll and the Gobbos as a nipper. Had no idea it was GW adjacent until many years later, as a teen, when I started getting into Warhammer.
No joke, i think about the song tape almost every week and I haven't heard it in 30 years.

1 Those homophobic slurs were brilliant on a freezing cold winters day when hot and steamy they stuck to your ribs as you ate them.
2 There is no way that game is played without alcohol if adults are involved. It would make the songs funnier too.
Troll Trap giving a +1 per time rolled seems good. That maxes your jail time at four turns.
yeah, I still havnt played Execution Force but all four of my assassins have been painted up and seen battle.
I am the one person that bought Assassinorum Execution Force in order to play it. It's pretty fun, too!
Oi Dat's My Leg with house rules and access to your bitz box would be a great way of generating monsters for The Meat Grinder.
There is some heavy inspiration from David Bowie's 1967 song The Laughing Gnome on those songs. The song on the credits is pure homage.

This does look like the best one. Hungry Troll was basically Top Trumps with giant cards. Can't remember the other two, although i think they were also more card games than board games. Zog Off! made Trolls in the Pantry better but not by much.
This was the same GW era as Combat Cards, and should be probably viewed in the same vein.
I remember one class at our comprehensive school performed the 12 bags of Troll Food at a Christmas variety show. 🤨

I'm both very impressed and very confused with Chris Baker's career progression. I'm trying to envision the scenario where the people who made Skyfall looked at a man who did art direction for Eyes Wide Shut _and_ did the box art for a weird British children's game from the 80's and immediately thought to themselves "yes, that's our guy right there, he'll surely pick up what we're putting down!"
I feel the prison penalty for getting caught by the troll could be rectified if everyone just decided beforehand that you had to roll either an odd of even number at the beginning of a game, rather than waiting for a five or six to occur, at least that's how I'd get around it.

Sugs' Rascaltown Goblins would fit right into that aesthetic.
This isn't the point of the video, but the revelation that the Brits make a food called the F-slur, and that a variant on this food is made from pig testicles, has absolute killed me. There was even an incident in 2004 when the censors took down a radio ad for the F-slur food because they considered it an inappropriate use of innuendo.
That said, I would absolutely eat some F-slurs if I visit. Name aside, it seems like good eating.

I bought Execution Force for the miniatures but, I've actually played it several times and it is really good. The "AI" of the chaos side allows for a good solo playthrough. Great Video as always Cheers all!

I remember seeing these all for sale at a convention back in the day. I was very confused, but "Oi! Dat's Me Leg!" became stuck in my head ever since. Thank you for reassuring me that I was not hallucinating that experience.
what genre is the troll tape music?
well… you remember the bit in the eisenhorn trilogy where dan abnett talks about "pound", a genre of 41st millennium music that gets a not-insignificant bit of world-building and then basically never gets mentioned ever again? i'm pretty sure it's _that._
i could easily be convinced that the producers of the troll tape just grabbed some royalty-free happy hardcore and slowed it down

I managed to get all 4 of the Troll games around the time they came out. Not easy when you're in NZ. They've got pride of place in my GW collection.
They're all 'classics', although Oi, dats my leg is the best of them. Trolls in the Pantry plays in a way that never ends, (its a memory game where you shuffle the cards constantly) Hungry Troll and the Gobbos is effectively a simplified Top Trumps (and has a Chaos warrior in it, making more of a link to Warhammer) and Squelch's rules appear to either make no sense or be unplayable.
The complete Troll tapes are available on UA-cam. They're really not very long.
GW also ran ads for the Troll Games in Dragon.
This may just be the fact that I'm from across the pond, but the whole reason I get called the f slur (and why all of my friends and I call each other the f slur) is precisely our love of meatballs, so I dunno seems like it checks out
