the long awaited "review" of the AnnaKournikova worm in action. It spread globally 21 years ago on February 11th, 2001, and led to the arrest and eventual community service sentence for then-20 year old Jan de Wit, who released the worm after creating it with a Visual Basic worm generator.
I know it's a little anachronistic to be using Windows XP for this video, but hey, it still works doesn't it?
also, I apologize for my noob VBS skills failing to kill Windows XP, however I feel that just adds to the whole aesthetic of being a completely terrible malware author who doesn't test his creation prior to unleashing it upon the world.
Ahh yes, the 2000s, when people used to open weird vbs files without hesitation
Dude yes, I miss when multiple vintage PCs connected to a local server are used to demonstrate the virus. I know it is not for very long, but I can't remember the last time this happened.
Can we talk about this wonderful cat meowing in the background?
Didn't know who Anna Kournikova was back then, but I would have definitely double-clicked the vbs file if had name "pokemon", "pikachu", or "digimon" in it.
Lexus joining in to have her say will never not be entertaining.
I believe I speak for all of us when I say that we demand more kitty cameos.

Loved seen this here, I was 17 when I created "VbsWG", and 18 when AnnaKournikova was used and got into the news. That was some scary time...!
You know that a video starts off great when Dan gives his usual "Hello everyone." greeting!
What a perfect start to a Friday.
Oh lord, mentioning these generators actually reminds me of when, back in the early days of YT, there were tons of videos showing these "make your own virus in this Totally Legit Program Linked in the Description" things.
I missed watching this channel, it's good to see it still up and running!
hey danooct just wanna say thanks for all the content throughout the years, have been watching you since high school and now im hopefully on my way to starting a career in cybersec by studying in uni. I've always been fascinated by computer malware since I was a kid so finding your channel was a goldmine, thanks again!
This helps alleviate my imposter syndrome as a software developer and as a person who used to read a lot about young malware authors. It seems those young coders often had no idea what they were doing, they just found a script generator online and used that instead of writing things themselves
Dan ILY for 15 years now
i love how cute clippy looks at
A lot of these viruses would be counter by giving everyone a basic understanding about file extensions. If everyone knew how to check a file extension, so many of these viruses would have never spread because they'd see something fishy going on with the double extension.
I need a compilation of all the times you got a kitty cameo in your vids, just a whole history of background meowing to make my day
”Dad, danooct1 just posted a new video!”
Didn’t Chandler get this virus in Friends? Never knew it was a real thing.
