I love how early Windows was smart enough to not delete the whole Windows folder, but not smart enough to defend individual file deletion in said folder. Oops.
Complex malware like this are my favourites. PS: Something tells me that the author might have deliberately made his worm glitchy so all it's payloads can be displayed.
I also wondered why those old virus authors from the late 90s thought that they would get away with those double file extensions and no one would see them. It could only potentially work if the user set it to reveal only the last three characters of the filename. I remember getting a lot of people trying to send them to me through my old yahoo email account back when I was in high school. Probably because my email handle was cryptic

And when you run viruses in VM is there absolutely no threat to the PC you’re running the VM on? Love the videos
You can just format the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Same for a virtual machine - no harm to your host unless the virus gains access to a shared folder and executes that way but older viruses generally can't do anything to Windows 10

"Iron Maiden _are_ dead" kind of suggest that the virus author uses British English or something. Probably explains the name "Horty", as it sounds like "Haughty" in that dialect.
It's either failing to delete the folder because some of the files inside are in use, or the "deletefolder" function works similarly to the 'rmdir' command line tool, which by default only deletes empty folders.

Well, Windows did have "Hide extensions for know file types" enabled by default back then. Though I always unhid them.
