T series single handedly destroyed music industry
*** Bhushan kumar
Gulshan kumar was a very good person
@@silksonic3927 ek samay tha ki T-Series ko bhakti gaano ke liye jana jata tha par bhushan ne nora, neha, sunny leone.... ke item songs ban kar barbad kar diya
@@pushPa37419 Arre Nora, Sunny Leone to sab baad mein aaye. Bhushan Kumar ne Baap ke marte hin Kaanta Laga, Chadhti Jawani gaano ke remix versions aur semi vulgar music videos bana banake Music industry ko barbad kar dala. Upar se besharam sala in sab ke upar likhta tha "Gulshan Kumar presents.." Baap ka naam kharab kar dala modernization ke chakkar me.
Soch ke bura lagta hai ki jis Gulshan Kumar ji ka sirf naam sunte hin Mann mein bhakti bhawana aa jaati thi, Hanuman Chalisa, Mata ki bheten, Aarti, Bhajan etc ki feelings aati thi. Usi naam ko aise vulgar music videos aur remixes ke cover me dekhne ko mila.

Back in the day, India had a rock scene too. Rock Macine/Indus creed, Parikrama, Motherjane,Millenium, Agni, Mrigya, Nakshatra, Alms for shanti.. Man, I miss RSJ(rock street journal) , a magazine that promoted independent music in India.
❤
Don't forget Bloodywood, it might be metal but one of the most popular one
Vishal Dadlani was part of a metal band Pentagram before he became famous as a part of the bollywood music director duo, Vishal Shekhar
I am from the same era GIR at Hamsaddhwani Delhi still fresh in my memories..
Rock Machine were the pioneers of Ind Rock
A reverse migration of Bollywood people to Indie Pop also happened for a brief period of time. Choreographers like Ganesh Hegde and Shaimak Davar went on to release their own album and promoted their work using Bollywood biggies.
still remember dilruba ❤
Certainly, I remember Ganesh releasing Let's Party in 2011.
Money and all, my darling
If I am not wrong then shiamak davar was famous as pop singer first and choreographer later.
@@girishtiwari3859 you are wrong, he was a dancer singer choreographer mentor, even before coming into limelight.
In our bengal there is always a band culture that started long ago on 1970's with Mahiner Ghoraguli and we still cherish our band culture and bands like Fossils Cactus Chandrabindu and New Bands Are still coming to the light like Fakira.
Lol. I have been to Kolkata and Durgapur and no one listens to Bengholi songs....Not even their Radio FMs play any bengholi songs. It's either bollywood or Punjabi Pop.. That's how horrible Bengholi songs and music industry is. It's so horrible that they are not listened or popular in Benghol itself.😀😂 So don't lie. No one gives a &&hit about Bengholi music industry if there is even a thing called that.
We are talking here about the BIG LEAGUES....not some unpopular cr**py bengholies. No one cares.💩
True
But new bands are not forming. It is still those 20 years old bands that are ruling.
Fakira came to our cllg they are fabulous
Lolz...
Ankit Tiwari is so underrated in indian music. 😔
😂😂 joker he is...!!! Khud hi lutiya dubo di
Agree,
I didn't know about this story but I am still obsessed with the old albums of artists like Sonu, Shaan, KK..❤ Those are the refreshments in this generation of music!

There are many like you and 15 is very least number.
Anyone who remembers, talks, thinks, about these indie artists, has my heart. Only we, the 90's kids know what we had gained and what we have lost. ❤
Its funny how people get stuck to their growing up years. My parents were stuck with songs of late 60s-70s. And we are stuck with 90s.

I think it's Bengal where still the band culture is growing and it is growing better and larger than the playback culture here. Bands Like Fossils, Prithibi, Fakira, The Folk Diaries, Cactus and many more are still growing strong. If you feel it questionable then please visit a Fossils or Prithibi or Fakira concert... you will absolutely feel the craze here for rock and fusion musics. And also independent artists are also growing here by the grace of social music platforms. Yes the aftermath of the "playback" culture is still haunting us but not just now but in old times so much Bengali artists had released single albums and those songs still are in hearts of people.
You can't say like this.

8:04 DarshanRaval & ArijitSingh toh phir bhi talented hai, but NEHA KAKKAR jaise log toh completely undeserving hote hue bhi famous celebs bann gaye
I agree with the fact that both Arijit and darshan are talented singers but does that mean that they should have monopoly over the whole industry. Every Bollywood album nowadays has at least 2 to 3 songs which are sung by Arijit because he is the most trending Indian artist nowadays and attracts audiences by his name in the title of the song. I think Bollywood is just over-exploiting him especially Pritam by making him sing in almost every other song. They don't care if his voice even suits that particular song or not. Hence deserving remains unexplored.
@@ayushrai8705 Touché, but I've watched ArmaanMalik's interview in which he said that Bollywood doesn't pay these singers fairsome amount that's why most singers have left Bollywood music industry
@@rohitavhad2592 that's true but I am talking about the monopoly of few singers nowadays. In the 2000s we had Sonu, KK, Shaan, Mohit, Javed,Adnan, Benny, Papon and occasionally Udit and Kumar Sanu which used to get songs on the basis of whose voice will fit perfectly on a particular song. We used to get a variety of voices in hit songs. Nowadays mostly hit songs are sung by one singer only and it's good for Arijit but not for true lovers of music. Same copy paste formula with the same reggaeton beat.
@@rohitavhad2592 have you noticed that the song "tere sang Ishq hua" from the movie "yodha" is seemed to be inspired from "raataan lambiyan" success. Like they had created a similar song with different lyrics and different singers. Also "phir aur kya chahiye" has overall same structure as "apna bana le".
Bro neha kakkar is also a good singer , but the demand of industry made her become what she’s
Mr. Lucky Ali❤️ ahead of his era❤️
There was only KK who sustained through out simply because his new generation KK school of singing style.
Abhi ke current scene mein new independents labels and distribution companies ne india ke indie pop scene ko almost revive krdiya with new artists

2.Right now , They have collaborated with karan aujla for his new album Makin memories
3.They have collaborated with jasleen royal for her new single heeriye featuring dulqueer salman.

After listening all I now can say we Bengali have good number of pop audience both in west bengal Tripura and Bangladesh। Still Chandrabindu or ক্যাকটাস ব্যান্ড work extremely well। 😊❤
Nothing went wrong we still listen to those Epic fantastic songs 💕 every now and then ! Nothing can ever replace those songs, picturisation, lyrics & memories attached with them !
Well said, I believe it was re targeting of those Indie Artists by Bollywood. They got the Indie Artists to feature in music that would take away the music fanatics as Audiences and replace them with people who Obsess over trendy music, only to replace it with something different very quickly. So naturally the fan buildup stopped for Indie Artists there and then but music fanatics like You and myself are still Indie fans till date.
@@murtza.rehman 😊👍
Independent albums ka alag hi Nasha hota hai
Humsafar album (kk sir) is very underrated (also silk route band)
Very nicely explained ✌🏻 I m a 90’s kid n still I listen to 90’s indipop only , I don’t even know which song is trending now but I remember each n every indipop song’s lyrics , those songs were the best music of my life .
I am so glad to see someone making a video on this topic, so many artists from that time are still creating music but they don't have big labels to promote their videos like they promote those trashy songs on youtube. Had a chance to shoot a video with euphoria recently, and the insights Palash Sen gave about the way "a certain big label" has a monopoly on the Indian music scene. They just don't let independent artist rise and reach wider audience, because that big label decide what kind of music will work at a certain time, according to the roster of musicians they have, and this is constantly killing the whole indie industry, or whatever is left of it.
I was lucky enough to watch a show of Lucky Ali in my hometown Siliguri, West Bengal.
It's not just Bollywood.. Nowadays musicians all over the world rarely make good music.. No doubt the songs become an instant hit but few songs have the evergreen factor.. Even the indie musicians nowadays make same type of generic music
Another reason is today's generation where people would love more on Music rather Lyrics.
@@user-jt4mf6xz5m That's your thinking music is not all about vocals or lyrics.
You can say that about pop but prog music is still good
😄 You’re right and I believe most of us shifted to world music, coz that area was sorted and had everything for everyone. For example: for English songs are remembered by Genres, while in Bollywood, people will say Salman Khan ka song hai😂, without giving a shit about who sang it.
Independent rock bands are famous in West Bengal and Bangladesh where film industry is not that strong .
Famous ? Lol. In your dreams kengali. No one knows about any of them. I have been to Benghol and no one listens to Bengholi songs, much less bengholi rock even if there is anything like that.💩....I have seen how during Navratri, Bengholies were playing Chikni Chameli and Haryanvi Songs too. They were playing some age old nauseating noisy bengholi songs too but not a single new bengholi song which shows how pathetic their songs and talent must be.💩🤣🤣 So don't brag here about ur l00ser Benghol.
But in the 80's and 90's when our film industry was strong (in Bangladesh), at the same time independent music bands were thriving and very successful and even more so compared to current band music
There were so lovely artists back then, Jasmine's Prem, Mehnaz's Mein hoon, Style bhai's Suba suba jab khirki khole, Raageshwari, Mohit, Shail, Shweta's Johnny joker, Sharon Prabhaakar's Mama mia, Bina Mistry, Aditi's Multiply, Suchitra's dum tara, Vikas Bhalla's Awaara, Suneeta Rao's Kesariya roop maaro and Pari hu mein, Anaida's Oova oova, Sukhbir's Ohoho Ishq tera tarrpaave and Punjabi mundy paun bhangra, unforgettable lovely music.
In my opinion, Bengali independent music has gathered a strong fan base . Thanks to Fossils, Mohiner ghoraguli, Cactus ❤
No one asked. No one cares. Kengali macchikhors. I have lived in Kolkata and not even their radio FMs play Kengali songs. They rather play Bollywood or Punjabi Pop songs. They play bhojpuri and Bollywood songs in their Durga Puja and other functions. That's how horrible Bengholi songs and music industry is. So horrible that Bengholies themselves don't listen to it.😀😂🤣

Thanks for making this video. 🥺🙏🏽🌼
Thank you, Vedant. 90s pop/rock bands/artists ka bahut accha samay tha. Lucky Ali ka sifar album ekdum mainstream music/lyrics se opposite tha. But as you said baad mein he was swallowed by Bollywood in early 2000s (kaho na pyar hai). Ek artist apko mention karna chahiye tha, Falguni Pathak. She is one indie artist jisne Bollywood se khud ko alag rakha. By the way, Bilal Maqsood of Strings (Pakistan) se pucha Gaya tha ki India k pop/rock bands aur Pakistan k bands (Junoon, Strings, Jal, Fuzon, etc.) mein Kya difference hai? Bilal ne kaha India mein film music is the major driving force which eventually is more dominating in market than indie music. Whereas Pakistan bands became more global or at least very popular in Asian market due to their separate culture with film industry. Eventually it's all about funding. Bollywood is a whale which can swallow up all the small fishes. Problem is, 90s indie pop was refreshing and creative. Most of post 90s bollywood music is purely crap, except for few artists and some songs.
Thank God; I have lived through and experienced all those eras with childhood excitement that cannot be calculated
Bloodywood. Indian folk metal band from Delhi. They're killing it outside through tours and concerts.
they're too good!
They're awesome.
Now a days Music has become more Business than Art.
What an analysis! Keep it up rusty
The thing is our independence artists never got the chance to rise, rise seperately from Bollywood.
If any artist gets even a little bit of famous, Bollywood immediately captures them and then suck all the money out of them as much as possible. I stopped listening to Hindi music around 2016 because at that time I realised that the only songs I will be hearing are love, breakup or sad songs. Anything extra, that doesn't exist in Indian music. For a long time, I used to believe music is only made for movies.
Also, majority of Hindi songs are made for Bollywood or somehow are related to it. We are so used to them that we don't even care about any independent artist.
Also, we know Arijit Singh, Jubin Nautiyal and other famous singers mostly because of Bollywood, who are now just trapped in their genre. They just won't make any different music.
And If we really want to push Indian independent music on a global level, we have to make songs in English. Hindi is the 3rd most spoken language but concentrated in India. So to capture first hand audience, we have to produce English songs, and then slowly we can roll out Hindi songs as well.
Because world has a concept in its mind that if it's an Hindi/Indian songs, it's of a movie, and if it's a movie song, its just a party song where everyone is dancing without any soul or context.
That's the reality. Face it and change it to grow from it.
Hearing that you have stopped listening to hindi music since 2016 is actually really sad.....i would like to recommend you "Rahgir" an indie artist....seeing that you want something other than love, breakup and stuff...i think you might like him..Do let me know if you liked his music style.

well said bro.. This is the real truth of how an Artist is being exploited by this so called label.. As the legend Sonu Nigam sir said "koi chis ka agar ryata felana ho to use India pe lao"
it is So sad and frustrating, being a musician or artist is very tough in India ...

I remember we had so many cassettes back then, with wonderful songs of indian artists. All credit goes to my sister. As much as I can recall, we used to spend our evenings listening to Adnan Sami's and other artists' albums.
Well researched. The new generation MUST view this content with brains. then make an informed decision. I was born in the mid 60's and had seen all these UPs and DOWNS.
Very well orchestrated well documented in a nut shell.... I agree with everything he mentioned I saw all the changes and the developments over the years.
Excellent article and extraordinary presentation. You gave answers of many of my questions. ❤❤❤
Sonu Nigam was way ahead of time he used speak against these exploiting acts done by labels even when he was at his peak of his career.
soo much information mere ko toh kabhi indie pop culture ka pata he nahi tha thankyou
saregama and HMV are same...as the later been aquired by the former...also both the labels supported indie artists/bands in Bengal....cause that a old tradition there. Bengali music does not depend on film music and still carrying that legacy

They used to have so much potential.
Their songs like MAIN LAUT AAUNGA, SAAWAN used to be on my mind 24x7.

I miss those days. That’s why a lot of us 90s kids end up listening to Pakistani rock bands because theirs survived.
I believe thr primary reason for the disappearance of indie songs is pendrive. Their business was solely depend upon selling cd and DVD with the rise of internet and sharing medium like pendrives killed their business. However, other reasons also were valid.
Your video is so informative..... Loved it ♥️

Amazing video... My dream is to bring back 90s songs era. Every song used to have a story... ❤
In Bangladesh Band music is highly popular. Our filmy music industry is way behind our indie pop. In 90s singers like James, Ayub Bacchu, Partha, Khalid and many more scratches our memory with their creations. Jemes sang in Bollywood also (Bhigi bhigi). When we first got the glimps of satellite TV and MTV in 90s, we listened Indian Indie pop artists and they was as close to our heart as our band musicians. Now if i listen India music I still listen to new indie bands, like Kaisi from Asam, Taikudum bridge from Tamilnaru, Ganesh Talkies from West Bengal. Regional indie pop musicians are still creating creative and vibrant songs. You should make a video on them.
Thanks 🙏 for sharing all this valuable information bro. ❤
There was this band called Agosh who had this song called 'paisa', which was satire at its best. and the videos, damn!
In India heavy metal and rock music is still taboo but in future I will make a rock and heavy metal band and i will take this genre in mainstream and I'm ready to do the hardwork 💪🏻
Lmao yes, try being a Metalhead in India. Barely anyone understands your taste in music.
Overall that was a golden era. Imagine what would happen if video of Piya Basanti was released today.
Those golden era, very nostalgic feeling
This video is so smooth man the sound design is the best
The problem is that you also mentioned those indie artists who sang in Hindi and whose albums were released by big labels like Sony. But there were several other bands and indie artists of different languages from different parts of India. But because of the language difference one part of India never heard the other parts' music. For example in the 90's there were several good bands in Bengal but other states of our country never heard about them. The same goes for the people of Bengal, they never knew about indie artists from the South. And it's natural to happen. For example Spain has one language so the audience is not diversified like ours. That's a big contributor behind the success of their music.
I hope my point is understandable. Thank you for bringing up this topic.
watching from Bangladesh.
finally u raise ur voice..
