I have the same '07 Grand Prix GXP with the same exact issue, no forward motion in Drive, only in MANUAL/tapSHIFT. I'd really love to know what is being done to fix this issue. I love these Grand Prix, I have an '04 Grand Prix GT and an '07 Grand Prix GXP!
My transmission went out in my G6 when I was coming home from high school. I stopped at a light and hit the gas when it turned green and I didn’t move anywhere😂
Take the pan off the bottom of transmission, check the oil feed pipe. Takes four bolts.they brake where it is welded to the bracket. Weld it, or get another one.
The transmission routinely gets too hot because stupid GM made some cars with the radiator end caps on the sides instead of the top and bottom. Therefore they have to put the transmission cooler in the side oriented vertically instead of in the bottom horizontally. The radiator is 30 degrees hotter in the top than the bottom--about 215 versus 185. The upper part of the transmission cooler is always too hot. Transmissions need to stay below 200. An auxiliary cooler will prevent 90% of the problems if installed soon enough before too much damage is done. Dumb ass GM engineers.
Rebuild time no way around it, mine started doing the same around the same mileage so I had it rebuild by a local shop and installed a t.e.p shift kit at the same time. Just rolled over 175k and she still runs like a dream giving the fact I have a really heavy foot.
Any updates? My grand prix 2005 base model v6 starting to have shif issues, when i go to drive some times in the 1rst gear when i push gas the car trembles and then go, then when should jump to 2nd shift, it doesnt and the rpms go up. I have to release gas for the jumps to 2nd gear
Check your trans fluid with the engine running on this car. Most cars in fact. I think Honda is the only exception. Make sure you're level and shift through all gears and return to park.
Double check you cable that attaches to the top of the from the shifter. It's underneath the power brake booster, you can see the cable . There is a nut that secures it to the transmission.. . GM did not remedy the problem with this transmission. It was meant to go with a V6 car not a V8. I say you are looking at a rebuild.
Bro I just got that problem I have an 07 Grand Prix base model v6. Did you ever find out what happened? I read that it could be a transmission solenoid

Hey bro I'm all 2 familiar with these ls4 cars and what you going thur had a 08 SS impala my trans died on me!! If I knew about t.e.p or nicholls transmission back then I would have got it rebuilt with a high end performance torque converter and shift plus transmission cooler.
Put it in neutral then revit it up and quickly slam it into drive. If it will go, get it up to about 60 mph and throw it into park. Then put it back in neutral and revit it up and slam it into reverse. Next accelerate to about 50 mph in reverse and slam it in park. Then repeat the same thing for first gear. If this fixes the problem your good to go. It probably wont but now you'll need to go have the transmission rebuilt for sure.
it sound like your arm to the shift cable needs replacement ,its an easy fix,the part is like $15,you can do it yourself ,jack the car up,make sure its in drive ,loosen the screw, replace it with new arm, then be on your way.
Mines been doing this for couple weeks a d then it just stopped period some one told me to try lucus and I did still same thing and something told me to jack it up and take a look....MY GEAR LINKAGE leaking fluid...so before u waste money in tranny have your gear linkage check
This is happening to me right now but my PGP 08 V6 has no gear at all. There is no movement on Reverse or Drive, not even on 1, 2 or 3. I'll try to change the transmission fluid, change solenoids or even try to reseting the computer by desconnecting the ground wire) I'll come up with updates if anything of this works but if you had the fix, please share. Thanks!
@@hamldna rebuilds run from 800-1500 depending on who does it. Mine just went out on my 07 base 2nd and 3rd went out. My mechanic did it rebuild for 800 but I know if a professional car garage does it, it will cost about 1500 lol.
well...some people have done a lot of mods and can fit a transmission from the caddy with a northstar engine in it...again LOTS of mods need to be done....if you have had yours REBUILT 3 times and still have issues then someone did it wrong...when mine went out i had a new one built for me and put in and it was better than stock...still running to this day and it's been 4 years or more...i have also dont some homework on the trans they put in the gxp's...they are very close to the limit of the horsepower and torque rating of the engine...so basically they run at almost capacity most of the time...hope this helps and i hope you can get a GOOD built trans and be done with it!!! @@josephsmalls3068

Worse case the bands in the transmission for that gear is burnt out u are right about that transmission problems and they usually go out around 117 to 150,000 had mine replaced also with 3 year warranty by GM if that helps worse case

It’s a broken forward band if you can still move it in manual 1-2

I actually put a bigger trans cooler in 3 years prior to the trans going out. Aghhhh
The top is the output from the transmission the bottom is the return line going back to the trans
Take the pan off, and check the oil feed pipe
