234k on my g6, OG trans and motor. Few minor problems. But this has a very reliable vehicle. It has hydraulic power steering instead of electric. Only thing that has gone wrong is the turn signal, and the hub bearings aside from just general maintenance. Great vehicle and value.
I own an 08 G6 with 110k miles. I've already had problems with the steering intermediate shaft rusting/seizing up, coolant temp sensor, transmission speed sensor, weak timing chain guides (had to replace the whole timing chain/guides), corrosion getting inside the trunk release button, weak door lock actuators, and my all time favorite is the obnoxious popping sound coming from the poorly designed rack & pinion. Mine broke apart inside and I lost control of the steering while driving. The turn signal doesn't cancel automatically anymore, I've had problems with the VVT solenoids even after replacing them, the dealership did a half ass job fixing the power steering issues, the transmission shifts hard when the engine is cold/during winter months. I've had to replace the ball joints/control arms due to the ball joints failing. They never put grease zerks on them so there's no way to properly maintain them. Both struts had to be replaced already. The drivers side strut makes a bunch of racket, and the passenger side weld broke where the swaybar link connects to it. The speakers don't work worth a crap. The rear speakers need to be replaced, and I had to cut the speakers out of the housings and reuse the factory housings due to the design of the front door speakers. When I run the air conditioner, which is also going out, the back floor floods with water on the passenger side. That being said, the whole car smells because of it.
Dielectric grease would NOT help or fix corrosion! It only helps prevent FUTURE corrosion. You must use electronic contact cleaner to clean the corrosion FIRST, and then apply dielectric grease to seal the contacts/plug.
Personal opinion but any dielectric grease on the BCM connector is better than none and even the cheap stuff will last you 4-6 months. But why aren't the front control arms mentioned? It greatly effects how the car drives once the bushings or balljoints fail. If your G6 displays faults for ESC, Traction Control, Cruise Control doesn't work, or your Brake lights don't work properly, then clean your BCM connections and apply dielectric grease and it should all go away.
My G6 has over 293K on the odometer and I've had to replace the front wheel hub assembly and the headlights. She could probaly use a new Catalytic converter though. I have a P0140 right now

A repeat customer came in with their recently purchased boneyard G6 for new tires, front bearings and CV axles. Lss, the end of the axle that goes in the trans was too long on the new one and it popped out of the trans at the customer's place of employment so I had to go out there yesterday with another new one of a different design and it went in real nice, snapped into place and didn't come out again. Some cars are hard to order parts for.
Coworker had one of these and the transmission just gave up on him one day getting on the highway. It was pretty cold that day, but still come on Pontiac.
I have one with 200k! So far haven't had any of these issues!! Edit: I actually am experiencing the turn signal problem. But idc I'll just turn it off manually

Having a problem with a 2009 g6. It won’t start. Not on account of an engine problem but an electric problem it cranks but then shuts off. While trying to start, the anti theft symbol pops up on the dash and when the key is released the car shuts off. My mechanic cleaned the points on the BCM and that worked for a few miles. It can be started again after removing the batter cables from the terminals and then putting them back on. Recently it has had new valve cover gaskets installed and there was an issue with a clogged brake line. And the starter has been replaced. What might be the problem? Thanks for any information.
Paid 1000$ for no rust southern G6 installed some new parts in the front and rear and it’s been the most reliable little commuter car you could ask for.
Mine won't start unless I wiggle the wiring harness right below the BCM connector. Why? Square red one plugged to the fuse box. Will unplugging it and putting that grease stuff you said on it fix it. Or does something need replaced. Already changed battery and starter. Thought that was it but still when it doesn't start I just wiggle and it starts. Milage dissapears when it doesn't start and lights on dash light up. Remote start doesn't work anymore either not sure if it's related or not

Is the steering column sensor issue a replace and wait for it to go out again or is there a more permitted fix for this problem? That sensor was replaced under warranty from Pontiac and it has failed again.
Hey I have a 2006 g6 gtp. I’m currently getting the door lock and unlock going crazy when I take it out of park. But as soon as it goes back in park they stop going crazy. Then it also won’t shift passed 3rd. Even when I stick it in slapstick to try and shift out of 3rd I get an error on the dash where the gears are displayed. As well as a crazy idle. Also, my cluster gauges move up and down like crazy when driving.

My 09 v6 makes a cricket chirp noise only while in motion. Have had thebsuspension checked out by 3 different mechanic shops none of them can figure out what it is without tearing everything apart... which... will cost me a shitton of cash for an exploratory diagnosis. Any ideas? Other g6 drivers can chime in as well. Sounds mostly front passanger side.
VVT solenoids here, check light comes on and off. Bank 1 code P0011. 3.5 v6 so the intake, belt, and water pump will need to come off to install. Also loud whistling from underneath exhaust when accelerating past 2 rpm’s, hope it’s a simple gasket fix
Another big one is the Low Beam Headlight connector terminal corrosion that melts the lamp connector terminal. If you know how to do electrical repairs, then pigtails and dielectric grease from parts stores will only cost about $20. If you take it to a dealership, they will be required to sell you an entire front lamp harness ($$hundreds$$) , because they aren't allowed to modify a safety system. That won't solve the problem either, because it will just fail again.
All the issues he described here happened on my 2010 Malibu. Problem is my VIN doesn’t have the recall on the power steering issue. Got quoted $1200 to fix it. Was looking to buy a G6 to replace my Malibu. Not anymore I’m not.

'07 G6 3500, here, with almost 260k miles, and aside from a tranny rebuild, been pretty reliable. I am surprised, however, that melting low-beam connectors are not in this list. I've had to replace mine twice. The second time, I used Dorman high temp sockets, which have a pigtail on the other end. That way, if they melt, I can just unplug and replace them w/out having to solder, but hopefully, the high temp sockets won't have that problem. I'm also surprised that the sunroof drain tube shrinkage problem isn't mentioned. I don't know the percentage of G6's with sunroofs, but it is a well-known issue - to the point that GM made a parts kit to extend them.
2009 pontiac g6 2.4L... My car won't accelerate well. Pushing beyond 40-50 mph and it just decelerates on its own and its bad to the point of surging down to 15-20 mph if I punch the gas. And also when I punch it, the traction control comes on and engine power reduced, warnings come on and the car will shake pretty violently when I come to a stop. I shut my car off for a min and the warnings go away when I crank her back up. And I can go back to my cautious driving... I've had 2 "cam phasers" (VVT) changed out. Fuel pump replaced. Vent valve solenoid replaced by the tank. And taken the cat converter out and cleaned. When the cat converter got cleaned. It seemed like it was semi fixed. The check eng light was out for all of 10 mins so I didn't dare push her too hard. But I could at least get on the freeway again. After 3 or 4 weeks, I just felt a difference in the power, but she was still doing her better performance. I put some cataclean in there. Maybe a day or 2 later and it's back to it's old ways. Can't drive on the freeway at all. Can't accelerate worth a crap. I turn her off and crank her back up every 3 or 4 red lights and she seems to do her normal version of bad, until I go up a hill, and she bogs down and won't allow for acceleration until the hill is behind us.... What else can be changed? What am I missing. Why does she do better with turning off and cranking up? Any suggestions or insight or input is welcome.... Trying not to get have to get another car... And trying my damnedest to keep "Pontisha", that's what I call her, as long as possible. But I'm at my wits end.
my dad owns one too but his is am 06. he had rhe same problems you're telling me about. he went to a mechanic shop to get it diagnosed and they told him it was the transmission that needed to be replaced. but he got different opinions from other mechanics and they told him it wasn't the transmission that it needed a sensor (forgot which kind) but saved himself from buying spending on whole another transmission to spending like $40 bucks on tge sensor at the junk yard.
I've used bulb grease on that connector, and it has to be redone every couple of years. The brake lights will be on constantly and then shut off when you hit the brake.
I have an 06 G6 GTP Convertible. It is making a loud squealing noise when you hit the gas.The guy I bought it from says its an exhaust issue. It has thrown some code related to the O2 sensors. P0171 and PO174 also P0102, P0106 and then a random misfire P0300. It doesn't make any noise while idling. The noise itself to me sounds like a loud vacuum issue not exhaust. I've looked under the hood and haven't been able to find the issue. Any ideas of where I can look. I have decent mechanical skills, I built and repaired cars for GM for 34 yrs. I actually worked at the plant this car was built but transferred prior to the G6. Thanks
I cant believe they didnt mention ball joints. Here in NY I replace lower control arms all the time due to loose lower ball joints. Maybe it's from our bad roads?
No, this is a common issue with this model. The balljoints are machined into the lower control arms and it is a common problem with this model because they are made out of aluminum.
I had to do the same with mine. I'm surprised they didn't add grease zerks to the ball joints. I'm sure they'd last a lot longer if they could be properly maintained.

One removed front bumper and a bunch of headache later, I realized how difficult Pontiac had made this car to work on. Changed the blower motor also. The first I've ever had to actually cut out to replace. Piece of junk, the G6.

Thankfully and I did it all by hand no mechanics and I ain’t even that knowledgeable on cars 👍🏼
I used this video to help inform of of a 2007 G6 GT Coupe purchase 🙂 not exactly the car in the video, but certainly enough similarities to take note!
Money pit car tbh
Lol that's brutal brotha hang in there man. I thought I had it bad . Jeez
My back floor bored gets wet to its comeing out of the trunk cuz my trunk was flooding had to pop the seal on the trunk under spear tire
I have a 07 G6 3.5L at 223K with minor repairs engine still sounds great!
I have a 2010 and i really haven’t had no problems had it since 2014 it’s getting old but runs great
Dielectric grease would NOT help or fix corrosion!
It only helps prevent FUTURE corrosion.
You must use electronic contact cleaner to clean the corrosion FIRST, and then apply dielectric grease to seal the contacts/plug.
+pepeshopping Thanks for the tip!
He didn't actually say grease would fix anything. He just said to use grease to prevent the problem.
I have a P0140 right now
+Skyler Marcum Thanks for the feedback!
I currently have a 09 G6 w/ 245k I’m trying to keep it to at least 300k I’ll be satisfied 🙏🏽💯
My G6 just died at 205,000 very reliable up to that point
I came here because my local dirt tracks (2) in a 25 km radius) has started up a new division and vast majority of cars are g6 cars. But can be any v6 sombody is selling one down the road from me so I’m trying to find out what to look for.
Thanks for the video 👍👍
Take care
A repeat customer came in with their recently purchased boneyard G6 for new tires, front bearings and CV axles. Lss, the end of the axle that goes in the trans was too long on the new one and it popped out of the trans at the customer's place of employment so I had to go out there yesterday with another new one of a different design and it went in real nice, snapped into place and didn't come out again. Some cars are hard to order parts for.
+Panther Platform Thanks for the feedback!
Coworker had one of these and the transmission just gave up on him one day getting on the highway. It was pretty cold that day, but still come on Pontiac.
Hmmm
Im looking at an 07 with 88k miles .... Hope its desent, looks like brand new
They are solid cars a family member has one thats bone stock 240k+ still drives good and pulls hard

I’m looking at an 07 with 150,000 miles and runs and drives like a brand new car
Tell us please the specific characteristics of “low voltage” dialectic grease.
Then also define what you mean by “low voltage”....
I have one with 200k! So far haven't had any of these issues!! Edit: I actually am experiencing the turn signal problem. But idc I'll just turn it off manually
Turn signal switch assembly is $25 on Amazon, takes 5 minutes to install.
Very good and simple solutions/prevention to these 5 problems! Thank you!!!
as well as front struts and hsad gasket which did it in.
I just bought an 07 with 135k miles on it, i already notice it needs new hub bearings and i already broke the blinker switch😂 Over all the car drives like a dream, its a little bit loud and the trans shifts rough but its a good car.
I saw an '09 a few weeks back at the local dollar general parking lot for $3200. Was listed with 136k miles. Your post makes me regret not buying it.
@@TacoBell5DollarBox no. You should have drove it. Not every car that's for sell will be perfect
@@TacoBell5DollarBox PONTIAC is JUNK!!!! Trust me. Maybe talk them down but I wouldn’t regret not buying it. I regret not being able to buy a one owner 2007 HONDA CIVIC with 55k for $3000. I wanted it but it was last June and DMV was closed. Didn’t know how to get it (we have to have notarized bill of sale). It went quick.
@@TacoBell5DollarBox damn I got mine for 3k with 128k miles all it needed was new tires and the time
Hubs are $50, turn signal switch assembly is $25 on Amazon.
Been trying to find out for months why my tail lights won't work. Now I know it's the bcm. Thank you!
2008 G6 4cylinder here, and it has every single one of those problems 🤦♂️ Is there a cheap/simple fix for the power steering?
Mine won't start unless I wiggle the wiring harness right below the BCM connector. Why? Square red one plugged to the fuse box. Will unplugging it and putting that grease stuff you said on it fix it. Or does something need replaced. Already changed battery and starter. Thought that was it but still when it doesn't start I just wiggle and it starts. Milage dissapears when it doesn't start and lights on dash light up. Remote start doesn't work anymore either not sure if it's related or not
This is a good video I just recommend describing more about the specific colons to replace for the powersteering and also the sensors other wise some good stuff I'm learning more and more with my g6
Anybody know how to tell if a dielectric grease is low voltage or not? A search doesn't show me an answer.
What if it squeaks when turning left??
I own the 2010 and have had to have my transmission solenoids replaced and seen it in a lot of the g6's
That turns signal switch problem seems to be common with GM unfortunately. I've had a Camaro and a Firebird with similar issues.
Mine sticks when it' s hot, I replaced it when I thought it was broke. Next summer came and same thing. (All black paint and interior)
funny you mentioned it,.. just had mine replaced🤣
Had the turn signal switch assembly problem in every Pontiac I have ever owned (Grand Am, Bonneville and the G6).
New assembly can be bought on Amazon for $25, and you can install it in 5 minutes.
I love my g6. I have had everyone of these issue's 😂 power steering was costly.. still cruising at 215k miles..
I have a 2009 G6, when the car is in park just idling it idles rough and sometimes the RPM drops like it’s going to stall and jumps back to normal (the rough idle is still there) please help😫
Every single issue he's talked about I've had including a leaking sunroof
Yay! I have a G6!!
me to! 😁
Would you say these issues happen often? I'm thinking about bout getting one
Me too
@@bobbyv.634 I’ve owned one for 14 years. Only issue I’ve had that’s on this list is the turn signal. Supposedly it’s a fairly simple fix I’m just not motivated enough to do it
❤ I love Pontiac G6V6 🚘😊
ua-cam.com/users/shortsWXMhvDYzYJM?feature=share take a look at this g6 pull
I have 2 of the 5 problems you listed, I have the 3.5 Engine. I had to change the Water pump twice.
Is the steering column sensor issue a replace and wait for it to go out again or is there a more permitted fix for this problem? That sensor was replaced under warranty from Pontiac and it has failed again.
Cause they probably used the same model part, just get a shop to replace it. They'll likely use an aftermarket part that'll work better.
Replaced mine and been good since
I’m getting between 25-35 avg mpg. It has 166k and counting!
I have 2007 g6 and i am having problems. Shifting its slow or won't move out the second gear or third. One time i didn't take my feet off the petal and it finally shift to the next gear. Is VVT solenoid my problem? I have headlights problems replace the bulb so many time.
I have this car and it's like the whole left side is shaking extremely bad at time and sounds like 2 plates banging when I go to brake. What could the issue be
front wheel hub bearing @ 2:21. i just changed mine, but could also be the break pads
Thanks for the info I’m currently drive the o7 g6, and my main problem is my gas cap and maybe new suspension because little bumps in the road make it rattle quite loud and excessive
I got the same issue with rattling and no clue what's doing it
@@justinjohnson7693 Front and rear sway bar bushings and links....
What brand do you recommend for the low voltage dielectric grease. I am having trouble finding low voltage. What should I buy?
I bought some at O'Reilly auto parts. They have little packets or an entire bottle.
i replaced 6 wheel bearings in 10 years and control arm assembly
I WAS GUNNA SAY I CHANGED THE CONTROL ARM ASSSEMBLYS 2 TIMES IN 4 YEARS
I was looking for the issues i had but they weren’t here, my car is rocking 200,000 miles and is 06
My 09 v6 makes a cricket chirp noise only while in motion.
Wasn't there a massive recall on the electric power steering issue?
Hi I saw your video very interesting. Can you tell me where is located the coolant sensor code P128 for the Pontiac G6 2008 most appreciated
I have the turn signal problem in my G6, if I just buy a new turn signal knob will it fix the problem?
Looking for a video on replacement of the RCDLR. Is this soemthing that you have covered. Thanks
My turn signal doesn’t shut off when I turn but you didn’t give the solution did you? Can you do a video on the convertible pretty please? Mine worked fine but now I’m getting a “check cargo top” message when I’m trying to get the top down.. Check cargo top where and how?
Okay awesome. How do I disconnect the BCM Connector. It’s plastic and I don’t want to break it but I cannot get it off out or unplugged. Update got the gray plastic clip loose.
They've made the new connector systems more complicated than a chess game against Bobby Fischer.
I have a 2010 4cil 2.4l it gave me issuses sometimes it would start with no prob and then it wouldn't start after using it till it cooled down but the temp wouldnt go above 200. Ive changed the starter solenoid and kept on doing the same now it wont start. Im about to check the relays, any tips u can give me on what the issue might be??? Please and thatnks
Thank you for this! 👏
Can you please find out which solenoid your Dad replaced? I would love to get my Son’s car running again. Thank You, Jim

Could you guys make a video on how to replace a window spray nozzle on the Pontiac g6

I've used bulb grease on that connector, and it has to be redone every couple of years. The brake lights will be on constantly and then shut off when you hit the brake.
My G6 dashboard says “ERROR” and won’t turn over.. replaced battery but won’t start. Could it be the bcm or bad ground cable(s)?
2005 and replaced starter and it starts up,will go a few blocks then dies. Battery is fine. Do I need a alternator?
Interesting “tidbit” on low voltage electrical grease . ✅
Thanks
What is the difference between dielectric grease that you use on a 12v system and a low voltage dielectric grease? Can you recommend a product?
I am having trouble with front and rear running lights I will try fixing the connector as you say

I cant believe they didnt mention ball joints. Here in NY I replace lower control arms all the time due to loose lower ball joints. Maybe it's from our bad roads?
+06goatm6 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
No, this is a common issue with this model. The balljoints are machined into the lower control arms and it is a common problem with this model because they are made out of aluminum.
It’s Your bad roads..
I had to do the same with mine. I'm surprised they didn't add grease zerks to the ball joints. I'm sure they'd last a lot longer if they could be properly maintained.
Help??? I keep hearing a knocking noise like something loose..i had the sway bars replaced but that wasn't the problem..i was told it maybe the ball joints..i can't keep wasting money on maybes! 😊
The number #1 problem with General Motors is .....General Motors but they also mirror the same issue with Chrysler and Ford. They all make vehicles to as shop cars to give dealers repair jobs. The repair business is much bigger than auto manufacturers. The truth hurts
What you are saying is true. Selling a car is not what brings the money in to the manufacturers and dealerships. Its the maintenance and repairs.
I believe my BCM maybe going, when the vehicle starts sometimes I'll have no power steering and the airbag light will come on and go off intermittently, none of these problems are consistently on.
HELP HELP HELP PLEASE .So I have an 05 g6 gt. Sometimes it wont start. I replaced battery, still does it. Replaced starter, still does it. Finally figured out when it doesnt start if I wiggle the wiring harness plugged to the fuse box right below the back connector it starts. Why? Help. It's the red square below the blue bcm thing. Do I need a new fuse box or do I need to replace the wiring harness I wiggle?
My buddy had one of these. He asked me to help him change the headlight bulbs. I said "sure, how hard can it be?" One removed front bumper and a bunch of headache later, I realized how difficult Pontiac had made this car to work on. Changed the blower motor also. The first I've ever had to actually cut out to replace. Piece of junk, the G6.
+eddietorres112 Thanks for the feedback!
Malibu same thing. Bumper has to come off. Lesson learned, one GM are a headache.. two, research before you buy.
Oh no! You had to remove 10 bolts of the same size 😭😭 such a tough job. I've replaced my headlights 3 times. (One stock, one custom led, one smoked stock) its not hard at all 🤣🤣 this car has gone through so much and still going strong. GREAT CARS
Umm I've changed mine, never had to take off the bumper
You're kidding right? Do both you and your buddy get crash helmets and coloring books for Christmas every year? You got to pull the lamp assembly out, remove a couple of bolts, that's all! BFD! If you took the bumper off that's because you guys don't know what the hell you're doing. Should take a video of you guys working on cars , probably comedy gold.
Thank you!
Does some the Pontiac G6 can be automatic and standard too?
