You had the question about the cancer that Eddie had in the middle and it's funny because Cates also retconned that and the symbiote actually FAKED Eddie's cancer in order to make him still need the symbiote. So Ethan was not to far off surprisingly. (Venom also fakes that his family had a history of cancer, literally making fake family members in his head to make it more convincing)

Sal, I remember that "psycho Eddie" storyline as well. "The Last Temptation of Eddie Brock" THE SENSATIONAL SPIDER-MAN Issue #38
This comic has been the only thing I've ever described as "needlessly epic"
I love this book, I love the art, I love the writing, I love the mythology, this is one of the best runs I've ever read, so much imagination, so much epicness.

What I love about Cates run on venom as well is that he organically grows Peter and Eddies relationship from assholes to each other, to “respected” allies, to what you maybe can call friends as Peter helps Eddie out with protecting his son, Venom to Peter in the “go down swinging” arc and by the end Peters seen visibly proud of Eddie by the end of King in Black after they won

You outta check out Steigman and his Amazing Friends podcast. Donny Cates mentions that he wanted to add Dr. Strange's cape and Ghost RIder's chain to Venom at the end with all the guns so he would essential become Spawn for a minute.

I have the same issues with this run than I have for Snyder's Justice League. It's good, of course neither of them is bad, but in both every arc is just a one-up towards the story they seemed to have in mind in the first place. Just like every JL story is a "road to Death Metal", every Venom arc is a "road to King in Black". The constant upping the ante thing gets tiring for me, especially for this long a run.

On that note I usually ask if you could find time to cover Hellions by Zeb Wells but in the spirit of you mentioning minimum Carnage. Could you cover a book I have heard you mention several times and one that I really love so much that I followed that dead plotline into new warriors a series I've never picked up before or since. 2013s' Scarlet Spider life after death by Christopher Yosts.

I was initially a skeptic of this run bc it seemed like he was shifting the venom lore to an off-brand, unrecognizable place (Knull). But after reading the run, the ideas are so fucking clever that I can’t help applaud the direction he’s taken the Venom-verse.
Agreed, I really like the lovecraftian spin on the Venom lore that Cates added.
The venom symbiote bonded to alien war lord and than dead pool and that drove it insane and even with Peter Parker goodness was not enough and because him rejecting it that was final straw and made venom mad and insane.

Venom already had his own stories and the spider on the suit doesn’t make sense if Venom didn’t go on Spider-Man first. Now all the symbiotes have a version of it from the planet with Knull which is dumb.

One of the symbiote characters i liked was called scorn. Woman has a cybernetic arm made with symbiote stuff. One gets birthed in there. She bonds with it and gets tech powers.

The original clone saga took place when Peter was in college aging him around 19/20.
Ben Reilly returned five years later , making Parker around 25/24. During Reilly’s time as Spider-Man, Anne Weying is shot by the new sin eater and becomes she venom it is confirmed gets pregnant around this time with Dylan Brock.
Dylan Brock is 9 years old according to the solicit for Venom Vol 4 #15 , adding the nine months of pregnancy, we can say it’s been roughly ten years since the clone saga. Making Peter Parker 34 at least.

I still don't understand why they made the symbiote a kind of Black Mask analog instead of a Martian Manhunter analog in the new Heroes Reborn. They had more or less the same powers and weaknesses and everything.

i love donny cates venom its such a aweosme and badass run and holy shit turning venom into a horror movie monster is very interesting and I never expected to see the maker appeared in the venom series.

Yeah, I seem to recall The Symbiote telling Brock he never had cancer the suit gave Brock those memories so in addition to the physical symbiotic relationship The Symbiote had with Brock The Symbiote felt the need to create a psychological need for Brock to keep wanting The Symbiont
Man I've always loved Venom and I've wanted a symbiote ever since I first played Maximum Carnage on the SEGA Genesis.
