As I see this alien monster with sharp teeth do unspeakable things to numerous people, I still somehow find the scariest image in this series one where a group of goons walk up to a wheelchair-bound geriatric person to threaten him, and the old man responds, unblinkingly, with "We're both dying here."

If I remember correctly I think the reason Hydro-Man was used in Spider-Man The Animated Series is because they weren't able to use Sandman in the show due to the at the time in development James Cameron Spider-Man movie which was going to feature Sandman and Electro. It's also why they didn't introduce Electro in the show until after that movie had officially been cancelled and when they did he was the Red Skull's son.
Sandman wasn't eventually used in the show at all? I... Truly never noticed, but now I feel weird.

If I remember correctly, the 90s animated series initially used Hydro Man because they couldn't use Sandman because of rights issue with the James Cameron film that was in production back then and was supposed to feature Sandman and Electro. That's also why Elrctro doesn't show up until way later in the show's run.
Personal take but I always took venom's strength (and webs and logo and everything) as the suit trying to turn Eddie into Spider-Man, like trying to force a rebound partner into the ex you're still hung up on. So the suit is telling Brock it hates Peter but the whole time it's like tbh I wish you were Peter and I'll do everything I can to get you as close as possible

"Hydro-Man should be one of the most dangerous people in the Marvel universe..." There's a very recent Carnage series that agrees with that statement.
I honestly think the concept of the Hobgoblin, what if someone had these abilities but wasn't utterly insane, could work so well with other villains. What if a smarter, more resourceful person gained Hydro-Man or Sandman or Electro's powers?
They'd be terrifying and would really test Spider-Man, for one.
The problem with Hydro Man is he has no motivation. Sandman at least was a crook so that's all he knows and has his daughter. It's why I wish the Hydro Man origin story from the Spider-Man TAS was canon because at least it would give him something.
Some of your gags would make good shorts though. Some of them live rent free in my head. Like the jizzler exchange with Tiffany's bewilderment

That's more common than you think. Richie had a brother on Happy Days before he went upstairs and never came back down.
On Boy Meets World Cory had a younger sister that disappeared for a long time before they finally decided to recast and she came down mentioning how she was grounded to her room for a really long time.

If you were a partner with UA-cam I think they allowed you to have longer videos than the time limit at the time that was going on.
I agree with your sentiments that it is in fact time to organize a Venom Playlist. I count at least 16 stories featuring Venom and/or the symbiote that will inevitably become venom. That's as good a time to put a playlist together as any.

I said this last week and I stand by it; Early Venom was my favorite, and a big reason I love the Tom Hardy films. Sure he was scary, but he was mainly a comedic villain. In his first appearance, he dressed as a priest during the final fight and the first thing he ever says to Spidey is a quote from Mr. Rogers.
It’s why I’m not a fan of the more generic evil monster Venoms like in Spectacular or PS5, or even the newer King In Black comics. But I LOVE the goofy Tom Hardy films, the PS1 version (as well as the fan film “Truth In Journalism”). Cause Venom DOES have depth.
I love the idea of this horrific monster with the personality of a childish ex (and thinks he’s a paragon hero)

I mostly disagree with your perspective respectfully. I think there's more mileage in the serious Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde storytelling. BUT, to your point I will say that my favorite Venom of all was the one from the first PS1 game. Which was also my introduction to him as well.
That comedic delusional anti-hero with anger problems was peak entertainment. Wish we could see that version interact with Spidey on the big screen.
@@WhelmedButReady The problem is that there are enough Jeckyll and Hyde-esque characters in Marvel already. Curt Conners/Lizard, Bruce Banner/Hulk-hell, there’s even a daredevil villain named Mr. Hyde.

13/10 episode of back issues for the inflatable muscles theory, the several minutes long Monopoly tangent, and the dedication to unraveling the whole pointless Nathan Lebinski sideplot, because at this point he’s become a Back Issues mascot of sorts.
Venom was so much simpler back then I haven’t gotten a clue what’s going on with modern venom lol

The way they ended up explaining how the suit works is it builds on the abilities of user. So Venom is Spider-Man’s strength plus Eddie’s. It’s why each new person to wear the suit is stronger than the last.
With the announcement of Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection on the Switch and the PS4, I’m hyped that you guys continuing to talk about Venom! Venom is not main in Marvel vs Capcom. Once Al Ewing’s Venom run is over I would LOVE to see you guys cover it. It’s so interesting, convoluted, and absolutely ridiculous. Usually the recipe for my favorite Back Issues episodes.
As far as the symbiote amplifying the wearer's strength goes, that was already introduced in ASM #300 even though they don't really go into it. While fighting Venom for the first time, Spider-Man thinks to himself "He's got all my powers, and *more* muscle! All I've got is experience!" which pretty clearly implies Venom's not just a buff guy in an alien costume. I think the first Venom story drawn by Erik Larsen has the first explicit mention of the suit gaining Spider-Man's powers from Peter.

There is also one I can't remember the name of that stars Venom, Morbius and Demogoblin and plays more like House of Mystery-style horror story.

It's funny that the reason hydro man became a villain in the first place in his first appearance was because spider man accidentally knocked him into the ocean with some kind of machine. All Hydro Man wanted after was for spider man to apologize for turning him into Hydro Man, but spider man refuses, I think, but I don't remember exactly. If things had been different, hydro man could have been a hero instead.

It’s funny how many Spider-Man stories they have done that had Nathan in it. The Return of the Sinister Six, The Saga of the Alien Costume, Nothing Can Stop the Juggernaut (I think), and now this.
Thank you for addressing the weird face-head situation Venom has going on with Brock. After thinking about it pretty hard myself, I what *actually* happens is that the suit itself is like a multi-purpose organ that also breaks stuff apart to digest AS it's entering the body of the suit. So the mouth itself isn't physically connected to Eddie's own dietary systems, but it IS at least somewhat wired to senses like taste, sight, etc.
So, yes, Eddie absolutely can taste everything that Venom eats, but the suit itself feeds both himself and it the nutrients from consumed prey by pre-digesting the food before passing Eddie a portion of the elements consumed via a sort of osmosis

In my family monopoly was relatively peaceful, mostly cause we never really tried to screw each other over. Jenga was the killer, my sister launched herself at my brother with the sort of murderous fury you only see in aggravated hyenas after he felled the tower
To me I always saw the symbiote as absorbing Peter’s power giving it to Eddie once he took over. That’s why Eddie has enhanced strength while Peter had his regular spider strength

I've always loved that Spiderman has characters like Electro, Sandman, Rhino and Hydro-Man that are super powerful and just kind of simple minded, average people so they dont know how to be creative with their powers.
The whole Monopoly bit is just me and my buds with Mario Party, which is basically Nintendo's Monopoly. lol
We're keeping up the Venom momentum with this one.

Weird book, with disturbing scenes, Venom vs Juggernaut, Weird art. It's a classic for Back Issues.
Yeah, it's a bizarre book that was clearly trying to ape Vertigo and failed. But it does introduce a supporting semi-love interest character that sticks around for other miniseries.
