- In this video a builder introduces an affordable house design and shares rough costs to build based on national cost data available. This 2285 square foot craftsman style two-story home has three bedrooms and two and a half baths and can be expanded to four bedrooms and three and a half baths by building the home with a basement and finishing the lower level.

This plan is comparable to the one I've been viewing. Called Newcastle on advance houseplans. It's 1688sq ft. With unfinished basent. I'm so happy I came across this as a comparable. In Maryland minutes outside DC. I think I could build it with a 350k budget. On a narrow 45k lot. I really appreciate your video.

These are the kind of videos we need , given the economic issues of affordable housing. Any chance you can do more 1,000-1,300 square footage with a car and a half garage ? These are trying times for the vast majority of Americans.

I love the house you've shown in your video and would love to review plans like what seems to be available at America's Best House Plans, but the price seems a bit steep for someone like me who has no idea what they are doing and just wants to learn how to read a plan and know what he should be looking out for (and providing to contactors at some point). May I ask if you know of any reasonable plans that might be free or open source, essentially for the purpose of learning rather than actually building?
Over the door and garage roof, would you be able to make that a porch or deck instead of roof

seems like all your house videos are for narrow lots. can this be changed to go wider and not so deep? can you do some vids that are wider than deep? walkout basement would be fantastic! love watching your videos!
You can always turn the design sideways and install a front door.

Two question. First, what do you Consider affordable in other words what’s the base price for this build. Secondly I’ve been looking for a video of the small house you build. Two Story one bedroom home with a exterior stairs case and a six foot wide deck.

See Michael we want a single story 3 bed 2.5 bath modern farmhouse about 2100 sqft but a 400,000 house is now 799,000 at 275 sqft n 30% mark up there about ... any advice please ? Every one is a year .5 out thx
That's huge. Do you 'need' all that space? That's the first way to cut cost, and a lifetime of property taxes. Even the house in this video is way too big unless you have a bunch of kids. Build it yourself, and at the very least, general it yourself. Otherwise, bend over 😉

Affordable??? I guess I have to come to the realization that the rest of the world's definition of affordable and mine are two totally opposite things. Where do people get this money they are spending anyway?
it all depends on where you live. in the San Francisco Bay area, this house would sell between $1M to $3M depending on the town.
