Eddie Van Halen only met Pantera counterpart "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott a few weeks before he was shot dead on stage with his band Damageplan on Dec. 8, 2004. But Van Halen’s touching personal tribute, in burying one of his famed guitars with Abbott, demonstrates how close a relationship they’d already built - and suggests how much closer they would have become. On the day of the funeral, Dec. 14, Van Halen arrived with an instrument - but it wasn’t a new one, it was the original one featured on the back of Van Halen II, dating from 1979. He told Haney, “An original should have an original.” But he couldn’t bring himself to view Dime’s body, explaining, “I can’t go in there… I want to remember him like he was that night I met him.” So Haney delivered the gift. Holding up the guitar, complete with rusted strings, Haney told her late lover, “See, baby? You didn’t get a replica - you got the one!” She kissed his forehead as she placed it in his casket. ROCK IN PEACE DIMEBAG & EVH.

Pantera is one of those all time great metal bands. Their influence was massive in the metal world. That pink Fernandes Telecaster shaped five-string bass. I'm still looking for one. Pantera was not a heavy metal band. They were an entity of some type. Pantera never gets old. Thank you for this review.
Dear Aileen, Metal went through a period of stagnation in the early 1990s, there were no major releases and everything was very repetitive, until two phenomena (in my opinion) emerged, Pantera and Machine Head. I live in São Paulo, Brazil and here Pantera played two sold out shows. I was there, and it was even difficult to breathe because there were three thousand people squeezing and shaking non-stop. It was crazy, but at the same time unforgettable because it was Pantera's greatest moment! It's really cool to see you listening to Pantera and other iconic bands in history, like Iron Maiden. I'm so glad that you are now a fan of Pantera. I recommend checking out Domination live by Pantera. Highly recommend 🤘🤘
Bands like Pantera, Slipknot, Architects, and Avenged Sevenfold leave me at a crossroads… On one hand, I lament the fact that I didn’t discover those bands before the deaths of some of their iconic members. But on the other hand, I feel gratitude for the legacy left by Dimebag and Vinne Paul from Pantera, by the Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, by Paul and now Joey from Slipknot, and Tom Searle from Architects (his legacy is cemented in his literal swan song, Memento Mori from the All Gods have Abandoned Us record, the lyrics written by him shortly before his death from cancer). This is a morbid comment of mine, but since my own grandmother’s passing back in April this year, I can’t help but reflect on concepts like “legacy” and their importance
The singer is also in a supergroup called "Down" that I would recommend you check out as well. The song "Temptations Wings" is a great place to start. Welcome to the world of Pantera!
It is interesting that Pantera started as glam-metal band, they released 3 studio albums in that genre, but searching for more heavier sound they hired Phil Anselmo as vocalist for their 4th studio album, 'Power metal'... The rest is history. Anselmo is 4-octave beast, if you want more melodic stuff there's 'Cemetery gates' or 'This love', but if you want more in line of 'Walk', there's 'Cowboys from hell' or 'Drag The Waters'...
Oh hell yeah, Pantera!! Since everyone will recommend Cemetery Gates and Domination, I’ll recommend a couple of lesser known ones: The Underground in America and Suicide Note pt. 1 & 2… so technically three, but suicide note is better experienced in tandem. Also, as other people recommended, 5 Minutes Alone and I’m Broken are awesome. And Floods is beautiful.
Oh my. You’ve found the motherload. Floods, Cemetery Gates, A New Level, 5 Minutes Alone, War Nerve, 10’s and so many more. Dimebag is one of the best Floyd Rose Guitar players ever. The Dive Bombs, pinch harmonics and whammy pedal screeches make for some of the greatest guitar work ever. They have a whole era prior to the Cowboys from Hell record. They weren’t the whiskey drinking, rough and tumble Texas guttural metal band that we fell in love with in the 90’s. Pantera was Glam Metal. With leather pants and hairspray. But they evolved into a metal juggernaut. Dimebag was viciously slaughtered like John Lennon. Long live the Cowboys from Hell!

If walk was your first pantera song. Your starting on the right track for greatness. The pantera rabbit hole is amazing. Phil Anselmo - singer Darrell “dimebag” Abbott - guitar Rex Brown - bass Vinnie Paul Abbott - drums
As a 40+ years headbanger I recommend reacting to anything by Ronnie James Dio (IE: Heaven And Hell, Holy Diver, Rainbow In the Dark), King Diamond's 'Welcome Home', and Danzig's 'Mother'. I'd recommend a 1,000 more but we don't have enough time \m/
I got into them when I was a teen when my brother happened to grab Far Beyond Driven because the album art looks cool. They were the soundtrack to those years and a massive musical influence for me. Them and Sepultura. I wanted to recommend you check out Deftones if you haven't already; another favourite and influence for me.
The initial riff of this song was recorded backstage during the Cowboys from Hell tour. Dime was just playing around with some shuffle blues riffs when everyone around was like "holy shit, what the fuck was that." Walk became the first song and the instrumental sound of Pantera. Groove metal was born.
I was there in Chicago when this was filmed. Absolutely insane! The PA fell on the crowd. All the guys jumped off stage and help set the PA back up. White Zombie and Trouble were on the bill too. If you've never seen them live you have missed out.
The first time I heard this song was in 1992 during Drivers Education. We were doing our Driving portion in a 1990 Ford Tempo. Our instructor had to run to the bank so as we waited my friend put in the "Vulgar Display of Power" cassette...yes cassette in the tape deck. This was the the first song I heard. Been hooked on Pantera since!
That riff is hypnotizing live. I was scared to go up front my first time seeing them live until Pantera came on stage blasting Walk. It pulled me up to the stage and I never left. Now nearly 30 years later my 5 year old asks me to loop Walk every time we’re heading to a T-ball game to pump him up.
Finally someone mentions the bass under the solo. If I am in the most badass metal band ever and there's no rhythm guitar, what do i play on bass during the solo? Oh, right, jazz. Rex helped make me the bassist i am today. Got to see them 12 times in high school in the 90's! Best shows i ever saw!
They're from right down the road from me. One of my good friends went to rehab with the bassist at Valley Hope rehab center. RIP Dimebag, you were one of the greats!
PanterA were THE....Heavy Metal band of the 1990's I saw them in Seattle for the first time in 1993, and NEVER EVER looked back. They were the and always will be the BEST LIVE METAL BAND EVER. Phillip H. Anselmo is the greatest heavy metal front man ever, ever, ever.
I always feel the urge to point this out to modern vocal experts: for it's time, a big part of rock music was openly self destructive. It was rebellion. Your generation was born with very few social rules so you tend to seek boundaries. Rock's generation was born with boundaries and sought freedom even at immediate self cost. Concern of the vocal chords was maybe number 328 on a list way below heroine and overall a desire to die young after fun years compared to many boring years in an office. It likely makes zero sense anymore but if you want to understand why these bands sang the way they did, lived the way they did and ultimately created these songs the way they did, it was from rebellion, not self-preservation.
And such a KILLER rabbit hole it will be. Don't sleep on their album The Great Southern Trendkill. So damn intense. The title track, "Floods", "Hell's Wrath". Though really, you can't lose from any of their songs/albums.
You need to watch them in Moscow 1991 perform "Primal Concrete Sledge " it's sooo good. Most people request Domination but this other one is a rare gem on UA-cam! Dimebag is everything, what a legend!!
I highly recommend that you react to "Cemetery Gates" to see another side of their talents. They were a Glam Metal band before becoming one of the pioneers of Groove Metal!
I found out this morning (with Vinnie and Dimebag's) family's concent that they're getting back together for a bit with Charlie Bernante on drums and Zakk Wilde on guitar but not to reform Pantera! You're in good as one is ex-Anthrax and Zakk is ex Ozzy
These guys had a huge impact on my life and music when I was young. Sadly I never got to see them live 😩😭 One of my favorite songs is 5 Minutes Alone…but then again, all songs are amazing. 🔥🤘🏻 Rest In Power Dime & Vinnie. 🖤
Pantera is life. No metal before or after condenses more beauty and brutality than them. Start with Cowboys From Hell, move to 5 Minutes Alone and then listen to Slaughtered. Avenged Sevenfold covered a Pantera song. Every metal musician from 1990 to current day was influenced by Pantera. Singer: Phil Anselmo Guitar: Darrell Dime Bag Abbott Bass: Rex Brown Drums: Vinnie Big Vin Paul Abbott Dime Bag was assassinated in 2004, his brother Vinnie died in 2018 to a heart attack. Only the Van Halen brothers are more known than Vinnie and Dime. They are iconic. Dime was buried with Eddie Van Halens original Bumblebee guitar from the 1970s. Eddie did his eulogy.
Welcome to the world of Pantera. The greatest live band I’ve ever seen. You need to experience songs like Floods, Strength Beyond Strength, Domination, Suicide Note, and so many others RIP Dime and Vince

Schön die Reaktion zu sehen! War meine Jugend! Mit 45 finde ich es super, dass es noch solche Leute gibt!! ❤❤ die Diese Musik feiern!!!!
‘Piss’ does the single-heavy-riff-the-whole-song too. Super fun to head bang to. Awesome reaction ✊🏼
Old School Fan 🤘Love our Texas Boys ! RIP Brothers
I'm remembering hearing this back in the mid 90s when RVD used this as his walk out song in ECW.
I felt the same way in 97-98 when i first heard Pantera! 8t is a wonderful, intense rabbit hole.
The next track you might want to give a listen to is from the same album, it's called "F*^king Hostile".....it's my favorite Pantera track ever....
Some of the coolest people you could ever meet. Dimebag was so chill.
Pantera is who brought metal back in the 90s and 2000s.
Man the Walk riff really sounds like you walking with swagger and dont fuck with me energy
EXACTLY!!
PanterA were THE....Heavy Metal band of the 1990's
I saw them in Seattle for the first time in 1993, and NEVER EVER looked back.
They were the and always will be the BEST LIVE METAL BAND EVER.
Phillip H. Anselmo is the greatest heavy metal front man ever, ever, ever.
Im 43...i seen Pantera open for black Sabbath in Detroit..i was 18 at the time... absolutely monumental
Drag The Waters by Pantera. Their best song. PERIOD. Also, I was at this show.
My brothers from the great country of TEXAS!!! RIP VINNIE AND DIME!!
And such a KILLER rabbit hole it will be. Don't sleep on their album The Great Southern Trendkill. So damn intense. The title track, "Floods", "Hell's Wrath". Though really, you can't lose from any of their songs/albums.
Love Pantera hate the fact I'll never get to see them perform. RIP Abbott brothers.
Been listening to this song since that album came out. Easily their most well known song and easily my favorite.
The song that plays when you enter a room like a boss!🤘🤘🤘🤘
There is plenty more Pantera songs to blow your mind. Check out the live version of “Domination” live in Russia.
Ugh! If you are gonna request that song at least tell her to watch the full 7 minute music video.
PanterA above All!! years ago, I heard the first three songs off of vulgar display and said I’m getting a guitar.. RIP VINNIE & DIME
You will never not know what song this is when it comes on. A favorite.
Singer: Phil Anselmo
Guitar: Darrell Dime Bag Abbott
Bass: Rex Brown
Drums: Vinnie Big Vin Paul Abbott
Dime Bag was assassinated in 2004, his brother Vinnie died in 2018 to a heart attack.
Only the Van Halen brothers are more known than Vinnie and Dime. They are iconic. Dime was buried with Eddie Van Halens original Bumblebee guitar from the 1970s. Eddie did his eulogy.
If this song made you want to jump up an punch something, then the next one you need to listen to is "Fucking Hostile".
Welcome to the world of Pantera. The greatest live band I’ve ever seen. You need to experience songs like Floods, Strength Beyond Strength, Domination, Suicide Note, and so many others RIP Dime and Vince
