- One of eight Go-Arounds in a very short period of time as wind and rain from Storm NOA hits approaching Aircraft for runway 27R. This aircraft actually called an emergency and diverted to Edinburgh. It landed safely.
I was on that United flight. Was very scary. So thankful for such a capable flight deck crew
We got hit by lightning after too lol
@@ruehazell wow thanks for details, glad to hear you solid ground now.
uk weather been really windy for last 2 days
@@ruehazell what flight number was it? how did you realize that you had been hit with lightning?
@@brians9508 ua938. Saw the lightning, and then pilot confirmed later in the journey
Omg I would die. I was on a flight going into Miami under similar weather and we had to do a go around due to wind sheer although we didn’t get that low to the ground. It was terrifying. We actually didn’t go around because the pilot said we didn’t have enough fuel - don’t you love that. Instead we headed straight ahead to Ft. Lauderdale.
Jerry: “[sky news] make sure you pick a good one”
United Pilot: Challenge accepted
When you see pilots dealing with edgy situations like this so well, it makes you think I don’t mind flying with this airline 👍🏻🇺🇸
Right 👌🏾👍🏾
@@trinity72gp Good evening Gill!

@@TC.C evening 😊
Wow, those wings flapping in the wind!
I've never seen wings flap like that.
@James Me too, just shows how flexible they need to be. They certainly passed the stress test yesterday!
Jerry is the Murray Walker of plane landings/takeoffs. Fantastic enthusiasm and a great voice 👍🛫🛬✈️
I have flown that very Boeing 767-300 and probably have landed it at LHR. I flew for United for 29 years with the last 14 based at JFK flying the 757/767. That was definitely a legacy United plane as it has Pratt & Whitney engines while Continental planes , whom we merged with in 2010, had Roll Royce engines. I was amazed at the amount of wing flex we see in when they hit turbulence.
those rolls royce 767s = ⭐️😁
Always have had confidence in United pilots. Being flying them long haul for 20+ years.
Excellent flying by the flight crew. You could see the wings violently flex just before touchdown, due to the shear.
Makes you appreciate what a difficult job these guys do
One of my favourite go arounds of late… a really exciting moment😁👍🏼
That’s a thrill. Feeling that thrust at low altitude is pretty cool.
That was insane. Watching it live, I was holding my breath!
@drone_masteruk - I don't disagree. It's still a spectical to behold watching something of that size being pushed around by the wind
The pilots really earn their money in those conditions & so does Jerry! 🙂
I loved watching this yesterday!
It needs nerves of steel . Hatts off to the cockpit crew
@@GStar-9 training and experience is one thing but Piloting and skill is different which varies person to person !
@@mrkhan2983 That's aptitude but yes
@@jezzdavis9059 to some extent , yes !
@@hog8035 dont laugh . You cant feel the pressure and stress Pilots have at such event . Its very easy to comment here !!
@@hog8035 seems like an awful work place to be in if your company investigates go arounds. That’s the wrong mentality. Safety and proper procedure should be number one. If the landing becomes unstable as this video clearly indicates a proper go around is required.
I appreciate a go around. I was once on a military flight, landing early morning in fog….10 go around and 1 hour of holding, then a safe landing and to bed. The nearest divert airport was 300km away.
1 20yrs ago almost empty flight we were over the threshold landing in Phoenix & apprently a private jet entered the runway; never seen an airbus climb so fast!
What an exceptional pilot. At that moment....when he has to make a split second descision, do I stay or do I go? I thought he was gonna see it through! That's the crucial time I reckon.
Should I stay or should I go?
@Just remember who you're working for CLASH! oops wrong descision!
Yes. I think he made the right one tho to go around
@@robbieshaft - they didn’t “go around” though, they diverted to Edinburgh.🤯
This broadcast was amazing
Now that's why we love a storm show brilliant filming by Jerry what a that was.
Whoa! What a great video! Thanks for the work and perfect timing.
Brilliant coverage of that
Those flexing wings and blasting engines on the go around…nice!!
Saw that diversion just prior to tuning in to you live feed. Thanks for the edit.
Yes, i watch it live yesterday.
It is a good decision to go around .
Landed at Gatwick yesteday at 19:10 and we had been warned about turbulence but the landing was surprisingly smooth compared to this!
Me too was smooth at LGW
So close and then the windshear happened😮 well done those pilots 👍
Hiya Gilly & Jerry. I expect everyones told you but this clip was shown on BBC and Sky (and probably countless others!) Lovely to see that Yanited 767 TOGA lol. Well done you two!
Watching those wings flexing. Wow.
Listen to that powerful PW4000! Its an amazing engine plus its a United flight.
My brain is unable to calculate/process the tremendous forces involved against this metal bird. Amazing footage!
I know someone who was on this plane. It was from Chicago and it apparently got struck by lightning on its way to Edinburgh
We landed at Heathrow egyptair 777. It was the most scariest experience of my life.
Amazing capture Jerry!
Fantastic catch and fantastic pilot..love it 👍
Wow!!! What a day there at Heathrow International Airport. He or she dud nit want to take it and land!!!! Wow!!!! I hope that flight came back around in the flight vector path better!! Thank you for sharing that 767-300 coming in.
Lovely!
Another awesome catch! Would you be okay with me featuring this go around in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description as before. Cheers!
Yes, no problem!
Absolutely Amazing How Rare Crashes are With Millions of These Huge Planes in The Air 24 Hours a Day and Through Bad Conditions...Incredible To Me
Storm Noa sure made itself felt on that 767.
I was on that flight 😅
On our way back up, we were hit by lightning, so probably that what was "emergency".
However, there was nothing that affected the flight or that was announced to us on the plane, we got to know this when we landed in Edinburgh.
I was on the flight too! Crazy to see this video isn’t it. Hope you’re well
That was more of a blastoff than just a throttle up!
Thanks
I saw this on bbc news website yesterday and mentioned big jet tv 😊
This video is so nice because your ideas are very great❤
Great video Gerry
Very nicely done.
That's amazing 👏
That was close!!!😮
Ohh, when those wings flex like that at low altitude, you know it's rough. Must've experienced some wind shear as well.
I thought he was lifting the nose to let the rear wheels touch down and then I released he hit the throttles and thrusted away again very impressive to watch from this perspective but I've also been sitting as a passenger in those weather conditions. I always cross my fingers and just tighten my belt a bit. Flying from Belarus to Istanbul and then London Gatwick in just over a weeks time. Hope the weather is better than this.
Touch and go baby. Well excecuted. 😊
*Great Catch*
Serious wing flex.
Legend has it he’s still climbing With his gear down
Landing gear does not come up instantly. Max thrust first, flaps up about halfway with a positive rate of climb. Then the gear comes up. If you pull the wheels up too soon and settled back down into the runway, it is really ugly.
MAN THAT WAS GREAT FLYING...
Wow those wings were flapping like a bird!
it still amazes me how those slats and flaps flex along with the wings... 🧐
Thats spectacular that was close but he could have landed. The wing Flex at the end amazing.
How do the winglets affect handling in crosswinds like this?
really impressive.
Good piloting.
I wouldn't want to be on that. 😬 Got sweaty palms just watching it.
Nice!
I managed to grab a photo of this flying into Edinburgh against a beautiful blue sky
The wing flex
Looks like shes flapping
So close to touching the tarmac
Glad the 767 has all that power!!!!
I think the PW4000 which is on this plane is the engine with the most thrust for the 767...
Niche? Niche?! Mega niche, if you don’t mind, dear Sky. Only the absolute nichest of Av Geeks frequent Big Jet TV, don’t you know. We are peerless. Gawd blimey o’ Riley. What a TOGA! WOW!!
Was it really wind sheer or did they just float too long and decide to go around?
This is why I'll NEVER complain how much pilots make!
Any footage of it landing?
Watched it live too.. on the channel.
crazy attempt
I was watching it live! At first I thought it was down but as soon as it missed the touch down and floated a bit I knew it was going to abort.
This aircraft diverted to Edinburgh airport whilst squawking 7700 after this go around.
That's a bit odd isn't it? Squawking an emergency code but diverting to Edinburgh?
@@davefloyd9443 Yes, an A350 diverted as well and went to Stansted, a whole lot closer than Edinburgh!
@@davefloyd9443 Probably due to low fuel.
@@drenahmeti22 That's kinda my point... Stanstead, Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham?
@Dave Floyd Edinburgh had excellent weather at that time. Other airports in England, not so much. Perhaps multiple attempted landings, as others did, wasn't an option available to them.
Wings flapping like a seagull!
Great catch! May I use this video in my Weekly Aviation Update series? Of course, you will be credited in the video and description. Happy Spotting! 😁
Sure!
@@BigJetTV thank you so much!
He or she more or less nailed it....
That was crazy😬😬. Bet passengers thought yep we brace for landing. Ehh nope.
You were in news yesterday evening
Oh gosh back up 😮✈️😳
From my amateur perspective I thought the 787's and 777's handled the winds much easier than the 767's 330's or 350's. The older 737 and A320 were like kites. Perhaps the winds just favored the 787's :)
"GO AROUND...WINDSHEAR AHEAD WINDSHEAR AHEAD" said the EGPWS callouts!
No it wouldn’t - EGPWS warnings inhibited at that point
@@slavedriver394 Rubbish. Your a Microsoft Flight Sim arm chair expert😂
That had to be pretty thrilling for the passengers.
It didn’t look like wind shear to me. Probably disconnected the autopilot later than usual, because of the weather, then got a bit high on the profile before a bit of a float. The pilot opted for the go-around instead of a long landing.
Agreed - a wind shear go-around that late in the flare would be highly unusual. Warnings inhibited at that point.
"And on behalf of the entire flight crew, I'd like to thank you for choosing Spirit Airlines, where you have an 85% chance of survival!"
You can tell the pilots were working overtime just flying as the gear stayed down a very long time. Just fly the damn thing!! I am sure they had a light beer that night!
I thought flappy bird was a game but looking at those wings, I have to think again.
crazyyyy
So what happens after he has to go back up? He makes a loop and tries a second time?
What is wind shear?
The runway is lava!
as the weather gets worse and plane gets closer to ground, he goes proper conditions now.
wow
Great picture quality. It's like watching the 1972 Biggin Hill Airshow.
Oooo!!!
Bolter bolter!!
😮😀✈️
When conditions are this bad - why are planes being scheduled in every 40 or whatever seconds?
What no way I am coming home from Spain Tuesday 😮😮😢😢
What was it, about an inch of the ground when they bailed on the landing? TOGA TOGA TOGA!
Wow , great pilot 👩✈️ to decide to abort the slam bam thank you mam ….landing 🛬
Erm....right
