- Dave Grohl dedicates the award to Chester Bennington, the late Linkin Park frontman who died in July 2017.
“I know what it’s like to lose somebody like that,” said Dave Grohl in a moment of seriousness. “At least we have his music forever, so this one’s for Chester.”
It was a beautiful gesture that solicited a warm round of applause from the 320 awards attendees gathered on Thursday afternoon in the art deco confines of the Islignton Town Hall. It also offered proof that rock never forgets its own.

Watching this in 2023....when he said "I know what it feels to lose someone like that..." I choked up.

He didn't just dedicate the sing to Chester... that song was written ABOUT him.
Dave and Chester barely knew each other. He simply dedicated it to him because Linkin Park were also nominated for the same award... not to mention that this was just a few months after his passing, not 3 years.
I think the audience didn't want Dave to dedicate it to Chester. Their reaction was pretty cold.

I used to get in so much trouble from my dad, then boyfriend's, then the husband. He is a total prick, but he gave me 2 awesome kid's ) And for our 1st anniversary, he bought me a bad ass sound system with 4x2 feet speaker's!!!! Yeah. It was rad 😎

I've been listening to Foo Fighters for about 2 years now, but I never really got into watching interviews of them and stuff, simply enjoyed the music. I only clicked this video because I saw Chester's name...
But omg they seem so nice! I would have to check out more videos of Dave just talking, because hearing him do that speech just put a big smile on my face!
