    Your all white looks good with the shades of green plants. I would ask if all of your electricity for such high usage (omg) is from solar or wind rather than dirty fuel which is devastating the environment. Do the more narrow boxes fit good sized books?

    Your plant room is goals for sure, gorgeous and so well thought out. I agree about the Sansi bulbs to heavy and too hot. I'm really liking the GE full spec bulbs. Those wire management boxes are a must have. I found some on Amazon with bamboo lids. I wish my 🐈 wasn't a chewer so I could have large floor plants *pout.

    I have a hunny well fan, it runs for 15 minutes every 2 hours, after 5pm my fan turns off for the day , my fan turns back on at 9am , my fan is on a timer, timer is set to activate every day at the same times and deactivates at the same time each day.
    I run all my grow lights for 12 hours each day on timers, during the summer some of my grow lights are not in use because the location of those plants gets good sunlight from the windows they are next too, in the winter all my grow lights are used because they don’t get enough light in the winter.

    I wish I had seen this video last month. I bought the Sansi grow lights, both a clip on (with 4 bulbs!) and the stand one with 4 bulbs, they are VERY heavy bulbs! And their own clip on light base is too weak to hold up those 4 bulbs. Plus the stand base is ALSO too weak to hold 4 bulbs! It is very wobbly. I have a cheap stand grow light from amazon that has a sturdier base on it at a fraction of the price! I want to send these sansi lights back. I am so sorry I bought these.

    Hello Melissa,
    That set-up is dreamy ! Sorry for asking WAYYYY too late... How far are your vertical lights from the plants, please ? I put mine at like 40 cms from the plants and I'm having a LOT of algae, which I think is problematic and basically due, I think, to too much light. What do you think ? How far away are your vertical lights from the plants ?
    Hoping you'll have time to answer... Thanks in advance :)

    • @martinaharrisondefault5027
      @martinaharrisondefault5027 Місяць тому

      Sorry I'm not the person you want an answer from, but different plants need different light amounts, and also different lights are stronger. You are best looking at what your plant needs. With algae have you tried cover pots to block some light? I think algae is annoying too but I suppose not much you can do about it, just keep light above the pot so less light shines in through the sides

    You're probably not using Sansi any longer, but just in case, those bulbs must not be housed inside a lamp shade or cover of any type; they require a socket-only type of open application for adequate ventilation against over-heating.

    4:00 Nice standing grow lights to give them light from both sides if grown in front of a window. RIP the neighbour's eyes though.
    P.S. : Isn't humidity above 50% all day a mold risk indoors? I want happy plants but not molds on my walls and textiles.

I’m wondering if the barrina hanging lamps would be easier on the eyes but give my plants enough light. Melissa, I have a question regarding the ikea cabinet. Do you have any recommendations on how to regulate temperature? Mine is in a separate room that gets quite cold in winter (below 60F) and I would like to put something in it to rise the temperature.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому +2

      I'm not too sure on how to make it warmer. Maybe a heating mat for seedlings to keep in there? My lights make it pretty warm inside but my room is also very warm so that helps it I'm sure. Sorry I don't have much info on that! I haven't had that issue before :)

    • @martinaharrisondefault5027
      @martinaharrisondefault5027 Місяць тому

      Reptile heat lamp. Make sure to research the type of heat lamp and the type of thermostat. There are different types of thermostat and you need the correct type. I forget both of these requirements. Mine is a black bulb in a black rudsta cabinet, with a black lamp, that I hide at the back. Be warned, plants can get burned and crispy and you don't want to start a fire, keep leaves away. Heat mats are no good at heating the air, they only heat the bottom of a pot for seeds. I'm in the UK so I had this big issue myself with it being too cold in thr autumn, winter anf spring. Another option is reptile heat cords around the edges of the cabinet (I couldn't find any in all white, not cream that is or off white, or all black, I only found grey or brown after an extensive search, so that didn't pan out for me)

    • @martinaharrisondefault5027
      @martinaharrisondefault5027 Місяць тому

      The heat lamp is connected to a thermostat, a timer from the smart plug (so I can turn it off in the late spring when it's warmer) and the thermostat controls when it clicks on and off through the day and night. I set night to about 15 degrees in winter, and the day to about 19-20 degrees. The heat will be much warmer nearer the lamp than the furthest part away from the cabinet so bare that in mind where you place plants that can dry out or hate lack of humidity, and where you put the thermostat probe. I use a small hygrometer in my cabinet but it's not reliable, since I have two actually, and if I put them side by side they can be way out on humidity. E.g. one says 54%, the other 40%. So I don't know which is correct.

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому

      Hi, there's no way to know that for sure :) Humidity will help them and keeping them from drafty areas but plants will go dormant sometimes even in good growing conditions.

    I’m curious, why do you a fan running 24/7 instead of just opening those huge windows?
    Also, would you recommend the Haus light? I need to invest in one but want to get one that actually works, preferably off of Amazon

    • @plantsbymelissa
      @plantsbymelissa  Рік тому +2

      I'm not a fan of having the windows open in my plant room - too much of a chance for pests to come in and invade my space. After having thrips for 2 months I can't do that again lol. Thrips have loved my outdoor plants this summer too - they must be more prevalent in this area. What do you mean by actually works? I've had it for about 5-6 months over my moss pole area and I think it's done well for me. Plant growth takes time - light and fertilizer helps of course but some plant species just grow slower no matter what. So depending on the plants you have that makes a difference! I think most people don't release how close lights really need to be as well. 4-5 feet from a plant is almost low light if you measure with a light meter. The closer you bring it the better it's going to do for you :)

    • @misscindypalacio
      @misscindypalacio Рік тому

      @@plantsbymelissa thank you! and I completely understand, you're surrounded by nature so I'd do the same thing lol. So Sansi vs Haus, would you go with Haus? I had to move my big burgundy rubber tree to my office and it's getting almost no light at all... so I need something that will make it not die at least.
