My opinion is that when you respect the person making the video then the lessons taught and knowledge passed on by that person are learned and remembered more profoundly than they would be otherwise. That is absolutely the case with you. I’ve watched many of your videos and find you to be an excellent teacher and a kind, warm, person, a Plantologist Extraordinaire in every way. Thanks for what you do and all your hard work.
Please Melissa, don’t stop making videos here. Your channel and Garden Answer are my weeks schedule! I watch your videos while eating and I’m always looking forward to them. If you need inspiration just ask what we want to see but don’t stop please. There is always gonna be plant chores to film that we love to watch. We grow and learn together. Maybe you could make a video filming how you edit your videos and give us a little class on what have you learnt so far editing your own videos. I’d be interested in that 😊 Thank you dear :)
I'm definitely going to continue making videos! I won't be able to afford not to unless I get a different job. I still love making videos about plants and all of that I just can't help but think and worry about what it will be like several years from now. I'm so grateful to be able to do this so hoping I can continue to be here 🫶
Melissa, thank you so much for being so candid about your nursing career. For sharing your failures and your struggles. Your videos are so informative and honest. Thank you.
I use to want to be a nurse, but never did. I was a Medication Aide and a Caregiver/CNA for sometime. I enjoyed taking care of people too. Thank you for sharing your nursing experience with us, and mentioning that you sometimes struggle with mental health. A lot of people do as do I.
Please never stop making videos Melissa! ❤ I work as a assistant nurse att a maternity ward and suffered from burnout/exhaustion after the pandemic. Your channel has been my comfort during the time I was on sick leave (1.5 yrs) Thank you so much for this channel and your time & effort! 💚🪴🇸🇪
Amen sister! I'm a RN (since 2002) that quit nursing during the pandemic! The hospitals don't give a F**K about their nurses only their $! I'm no longer working as a nurse and took a huge pay cut and am so much happier! Love your channel! Keep up your hard work! 💚
My daughter is an RN too. She is so unhappy. We live in a drug seeker society. Her hospital has been sued for giving narcan to a patient overdosing. I told her to quit so many times. I say money cant make you happy.
@mycharmedunicorn8715 Yes! I agree! I am make a lot less money but am definitely more happy! I do feel guilty for not using my nursing license. But.... I guess not guilty enough. Lol
I am a currently licensed RN. I haven’t worked in a year. Our last child graduated and thankfully my husband makes enough money for me to take time off. Recently had my boss ask me to come back to work. My husband didn’t want me to. He said our relationship is better now because I’m not always stressed and snippy. The PTSD is real. Beeps still trigger me 🙌
Yes! oh my gosh the tele alarms! I still will hear them to this day over 2 years out now. If I did't have to go back I definitely wouldn't the stress is not worth it 🥲
I can't believe all this time has passed, and I'm only now realizing you're a nurse! I've been in ICU 16 years now. Hearing about how you got floated all over the hospital,...we did that too, it was so uncomfortable! We're a closed unit now so we don't get pulled and have to internally smooth our staffing. So much of what you say resonates with me, not just from a plant perspective!! ❤ For me it was the POST COVID world that is way worse than dealing with the traumatic awful covid patients. To see your team fall away (or apart) and staffing become so thin is really really hard. I am now one of the most seasoned nurses in my unit and I'm so proud of that but it's still very intimidating. I love critical care and I can't imagine doing anything else (nurse wise that is,...could totally do a plant shop 🤣). I got into plants 2 years ago when I was out of work for 9 months for 2 ankle surgeries. Plants became my respite and way to recharge and find joy. Thanks for sharing all of your personal experiences, so many nurses gravitate to plants for peace ❤.
Thank you! I've been disappointed with a lot of the companies that have reached out to me. They all say the same things and I can't work with companies that don't appreciate my value or my time.
Hi Melissa, don’t ever stop making videos. You do an amazing job . It’s always so interesting amid I learn a lot. I believe many people would watch more than you think. ❤
I worked in early childhood education and share the same sentiments you do about nursing. Taking care of the kids was relatively easy…but being extremely short staffed, disregarded by management, and not knowing what to expect on the day to day killed me. I would be moved into rooms and put in charge of 20+ kids that I’d never met before that point, and it wasn’t safe for any of us. Some of them had complex medical and behavioral needs, allergies, etc that I wasn’t informed about before being left with them for hours. I didn’t even know their names. I would feel so much anxiety. On top of not getting breaks and being mistreated, it just wasn’t worth it and I left the field. I’m glad you’ve had success on UA-cam and are able to do something that makes you happy and doesn’t stress you out as much!
Thank you! I'm grateful to be able to do this right now 🙏 That sounds so unsafe! I never thought about that before and how difficult that must have been. The stress and anxiety is so not worth it 🥲
I so enjoyed this time in watching this video. We needed your honesty on every level. From youtube pay, sponsors, nursing. Thank you. So many in the planty community are not honest on what it takes to be successful. Im starting to try poles on some of my 40 plus plants. I love the marble queens growth on mine. Again thanks for sharing
I hope the shop helps give you more financial strength so you can keep creating videos ❤ I always appreciate your experience and seeing your collection! Edit: I’ve been using the same face wash for the past 3 months and making sure to spend at least 1 min washing my face, focusing on massaging it into my problem areas. Ever since switching to that cleanser it’s been an absolute game changed for my skin! 🙌🏻
Thank you! I'm not sure where it will go but hoping I can still continue to do this as a job. I worry about the future and if people will still be watching plant videos. I really like the face wash! I need to be better about letting it foam up more and work it into my skin. Sometimes It's like a 10 second face wash lol
I’m super loving the channel Plants in Jars for learning more about tissue culture and the science behind it! She’s super cute, and easy to understand. Highly recommend!
I LOVE your long videos, not a fan of the ‘shorts’ I never watch people’s shorts. Please keep making them! I’m here for your content-even if it’s been covered by others, it’s you we want to see!
Thank you! 🥹 I only do short form because it seems to get pushed out more by UA-cam/insta. It doesn't mean those followers will come over to my main page but maybe some will. I usually only make them for instagram but upload some of them here too.
I got my pon on tuesday and im slowly putting my plants in pon. I will be staying on the subscription service through amazon so i always have it from now on 😹😹😹
I have the pre shift anxiety as well! I work nights and I have a medical issue called POTs and it’s hard to do it all as a mom RT. Wife etc nobody seems to understand. So videos like these help me ! Thank you
I have a monstera adonsonii in pon and a full ass moss pole (like there's moss in the moss pole and I put the moss pole into the self watering pot full of pon). He is going ABSOLUTELY bananas. I wasn't sure if it would work or not but it's fantastic. I've had to recently add a 3rd extension to it 🙃 You could for sure put moss in your pole for the monsteras in pon if you wanted to. It's nice too bc the excess water from watering the pole will drain into the reservoir. Win/win! Edit: Also, I've found that Lechuzapon, while great, is too heavy/dense for plants that have fine roots like some hoya, for example, and adding medium sized perlite to it can be really helpful. Your albos are stunning! Edit again: I have pomeranians and luxating patellas is pretty much par for the course with them. If you can get her to take Dasiquin supplements, they've helped my dogs. My older boy has super bad knees and an anti-inflammatory PRN also helps him :)
Thank you for being so open and honest! I totally can relate to the things you talked about nursing!! We appreciate the time you put into the channel😊 and your plants are inspiring!!! I show girls around my unit your marble queen. They love it❤ For Christmas I’m giving someone their first plant with a cutting of mine on a Thiccly pole!!! And of course I have my own too!
I used to work in nursing too. Also, working in another field and will only go back if I must. We were working short staffed 70% of the time when I left. When we worked night or days rotation it was 2 days night shift 2 off then 3 day shifts, off 2 then nights again. Flip flop back and forth. It was horrible.
Thank you for this video! It was so enjoyable to watch . I love your long videos. I'm not much about the shorts videos and tend to skip those unless it's you. lol. I can't wait to see how the new pot ups do!
Hey Melissa, really glad you're liking the GTFF! And yes they have a 5lt bottle which is the one I get. I also use their Flower Focus and my flowering indoor plants are blooming for me like my Flamingo Red Anthurium, my Begonia and my Peace Lillies 👌🏼 As for the 'job', I'm so impressed with what you've achieved, on your own, to get to where you are now. A lot of us watching you don't have the courage or the ability to do what you're doing ( editing alone scares me cos I know how long it takes) and yet you deliver week in week out for our benefit. Yes the income is good and useful but our mental health is far more important, esp if it starts to affect family life. Your face tells me ALOT when u talk about nursing, you remind me of myself when I had to resign from my teaching job (as Head Teacher) and managing an entire department. My hubby re-arranged our finances to get me off work cos it was so stressful. So I empathise although your nursing job sounded WAY more stressful. Thank you for your time, as always 🥰
I feel what you're saying about having anxiety and working as a bedside nurse...that feeling of arriving on the unit and not knowing your assignment or how short you are that shift....I was ready to quit after being a NICU nurse for 20 years. I was willing to take a pay cut and work with plants at a greenhouse for a living at one point. Your mental health trumps being stressed at a job where you feel like you are replaceable.....hmmmm I still might leave....lol. Love your channel.
Hi Melissa. Thank you so much for answering my question and giving advice on how you made it through nursing school 🤗 I am currently taking a much needed break after a difficult semester. Hopefully this time off will help me refocus to make it through the last half of school. I’ll update you this time next year on how my last semester is going lol
I LOVE most of the skincare you mentioned!! I worked at a small canadian Sephora store for 4 years (until a couple of years ago when I left), but there are still products that I purchase without the employee discount! Sunday Riley was always one of my favourite brands! Drunk Elephant is my top (most used, most experienced with it), but there are just too many great products and brands to choose from!! ❤❤
Thank you! I change it up sometimes but this little routine seems to work okay for me. I'm sure the older I get I might have to get more anti-wrinkle creams 🫣
@@plantsbymelissa it's never too early to start❤️ one of the best things you can do is use spf every day, so it's great that you already use it!! Even while inside, those sun rays are still coming through the glass, so I definitely need to get better with using it every day even when I'm mostly inside 😅 and reapplying it (because I always forget) 🥲 It was a lot easier to keep up with skincare, haircare, and makeup when I worked in Sephora (which makes sense lol). My mom has also been an RN for 40+ years now, and always told me growing up not to do what she does for a living (I'm 27, and my whole life I heard that). I'm not good with medical stuff anyways (ironic because turns out I have a couple of chronic health conditions that doctors ignored for years). I never wanted to be a Nurse, but I grew up around a lot of them and my mom has some lifelong friends that she met through being a nurse, so I have a HUGE respect for anyone who has worked in nursing at any point. She worked in a hospital for a lot of my childhood, also home care, and nursing homes. It's definitely good to get a feel for various work environments! She works in a nursing home now and while it still has its downsides, she's happier there than past places, and would ideally like to stay there until she retires. I also know a couple of people from high school that went into nursing , but stopped doing it during the pandemic, and ones that do hospital admin, and its rough :/ Good on you for putting your health and mental health first, and knowing when to step away from it! ❤️ I imagine it's a hard choice even if it caused stress being in that career. I'm very glad you made your way to youtube though!! ❤️ (also, sorry for the novel lol)
I remember when you found out about the rot and how upset you were, now look at how beautiful your albo is!!! And you hopefully paid for it with the cuttings sold. Win win win! ❤
Thank you so much! It was really sad to restart them in a way but I'm happy I could recoup a little bit from selling the cuttings and also give someone else the chance to grow a beautiful monstera 🫶
That’s a great idea to keep the pole empty! Especially with the front openings because you can use the straps to support instead of Velcro! And humidity can still get trapped inside!
Thanks for another great video, it's so nice getting to know you better. You're a very interesting person 😊 Also, loving your Monstera's, definitely a wishlist plant for me 💖🪷💖
Melissa know truer words have ever been spoken nursing school no way prepared you for what you faced every day I worked internal med first there was so much turnover then I worked gastroenterology and loved it but I will say when I started working gastro my hours easily would be 60+ hours a week my health went downhill because of the hours so my doctor made me retire early plants helped me through also love your channel 😊
Thank you! I feel bad for the nurses that were in school during covid and didn't get much of a rotation in the hospitals. It's tough out there. I haven't worked at the bedside in 2 years but I could only imagine it being even worse now with all the turnover and senior staff leaving. 60+ hours is a lot!!
Well done for what you said about Advertisers, Melissa, for me it really labours the interest in watchingg videos. We are kind of trained to mistrust adverts because people are paid to praise the products, but if something is really relevant to the video I find them interesting. Sometimes they really are obscure and have nothing to do with the content. I agree about "Shorts" too, they clog up the system now and I usually avoid them. Thanks for this video, great vlog ! ❤
Thank you for watching! As a creator I get doing paid promotions as a way to be able to do this for a living but you can definitely overdo it. It's the lack of respect I feel from a lot of these companies that reach out to me as well. I get that I am a small creator on here but that doesn't discredited all the hard work I put into creating videos. So many expect me to advertise them for absolutely free or for very little income (lots of known companies). Their emails are copied and pasted to everyone so I don't even bother anymore if there isn't some kind of mutual benefit or a want to even work with them.
Yeah it is but the wicking is all the matters. I like to also think of leca as a media that keeps my plant sturdy as a water prop 🤷🏻♂️ Personally I wouldn’t recommend leca unless you’ve got enough time to deal with algae and if you have a decent amount of plants in a semi hydro leca setup the time spent cleaning isn’t worth it. Honestly, the best substrate I’ve used (and have switched everything to) is new zeland tree fern fiber. It works great in high humidity, low humidity, very airy, doesn’t compact, and the biggest test is my alocasias and Colocasias love it
Melissa - I hope I don't come across as stalker-creepy, but I wish you lived close to me, lol. I have no friends with a passion for plants and skincare! I also looove haircare/scalp health. Thanks again for another great video!
Great video Melissa I absolutely loved it 💚💚🙏🙏🤗🤗The Albo's are going to love Pon and I am so happy you decided to try it. I love the the empty pole idea for Albo's soo cool! 🤯🤯
Can you do an update on these monstera albos? I'm really interested to know if they have done better in Pon. ALso LOVE your channel! Thank you for all the information you put out!
I found you through your instagram. I am a plant lover and grower but have learned a lot from you inspired me to try pon. I hope youtube and selling plants is profitable and beneficial for you. I work in a small town hospital, so it's probably different from Savanah, but healthcare is different than it was during covid. Good luck, but I will keep watching! ❤
March 1st is my birthday! And I've still never had plant mail. The one time I tried on Etsy it just never came 😢. So maybe I'll give it another try and order something from your shop for my birthday! PS I absolutely adore you and have learned so much from you! I'm truly grateful for all you do!
oh no! I make sure to filter shops on Etsy so it shows US sellers because if you don't it will show other countries and that is risky. I know some sellers say they aren't responsible for lost or stolen/delayed packages but it's always good to try and take each case and do the best you can or check with the shipping carrier to do a lost mail search. They can insure packages too so there's the option of filing a claim. I would want people to be happy with their plants so if someone didn't receive theirs I would be upset as the seller 🥹
I ❤ your sweater, and this was an extremely enjoyable video. Thanks for answering my question; it was nice learning more about you and your wonderful cats. 😊
When I was in the hospital July 2022, neuro unit, my poor nurses were running... Literally. Running down the halls. They were sooo nice but clearly overworked.
It's tough. Not all days are bad days but it was definitely becoming more and more bad days. I loved being able to help but they stretched us too thin. I can't even think back to some of those shifts I had and the feelings I felt. What was worse was when it was shift 1 of 3 and you just knew your week was going to be rough. Counting down the minutes until it was shift change and you could clock out and get out of there. The last few months was rough for me and I never felt so burnt out in my life from any job I ever had. It's a shame that so many health care professionals end up feeling this way and leave the career altogether. I hope it gets better 🙏
Loved this video! Love planty stuff but it was fun getting to know you a little better! You and I are so similar in many ways. Merry Christmas to you and your husband! 🎄
I see your experience as a nurse like mine as an employee in gas stations. I did all the things possible, from opening to closing (except night shifts, I'm just not able to do this), I was ass manager, manager and I got kick out by a very bad boss who just did like me...😅😂 It helps you understand how working in retail works, how to manage clients even when you end up (like me) having your own buisness and selling online and during events. Sure thing tho, nursing is one of the hardest job and I'm grateful for those who do it! In quebec they're all in strike against the gouverment because they have shitty conditions, very low salary... Teachers are also in strikes for the same reasons... Our government had give themselves a 30% augmentation, not 30% over 5 years but in one go.... And they can't offer the inflation to our nurces and teachers 🙄....
I’m glad you spoke about your nursing journey. 🩵 I’ve been a med surg RN for 8 months now. I am slowly withering away and it’s more insane than ever on the floors. I’m already burnt out. I am going to switch to the ED for a change of pace. There’s so much more help in the ED where I am but I still love to be busy. Med surg is for the wolves for real!! 😅 I hope you maybe consider outpatient one day! Thanks for all your amazing videos!!
Thank you so much! So sorry you're feeling that way after 8 months. I couldn't imagine being a newer nurse today 😫 I started my career with lots of senior nurses and lots of help. Now with all the turnover, high ratios and everyone being stretched so thin it's challenging! I remember that feeling of being so burnt out towards the end of my last few months and I was so miserable 🥲 I hope the change to the ED is better for you 🙏
My daughter is an RN. During Covid she was floated a lot. To the covid floor. It was horrible for her. She had a new baby at home, a 4 & 6 year old. They lived in the country. No garage. She came home stripped her scrubs before she entered the house and ran to the washer and jumped in the shower. She was refused religious exemption for taking the C-19 jab. She had 1 J&J before the blood clot scare. But they were ready force am mrna but them a lawsuit against a hospital in Ohio was won and that scared hospitals. She already had had covid so she had immunity building up. But hospitals play God and pick and choose who they give religious exemptions too. Nursing was not my daughters first choice.
Hi Melissa, i’m currently new subscriber to your blog and have learned so much! Thank you for making informative videos. I’m hooked lol! I just want to know how did you transition your monstera thai con to lechuza pon? I’m torn if i should just go ahead and transfer it or put in water first to grow new roots? I have a baby one that’s 12” tall. Thanks in advance!
Thank you! I DIY an aroid mix so it's about 30% coco coir and the rest is perlite or pumice, orchid bark, vermiculite, worm castings and charcoal. I get everything off amazon here: www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/B6F3YIOPBQAN?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d You can also see make make the mix up in my aurea pot up video here: ua-cam.com/video/0Xc4oVHRps4/v-deo.htmlsi=bH2wLvth04gq62fo
Silica is amazing my albos that got lots of variegate leave and a lil bit of green my albo is great no brown or burn on them i also fertelize my plants in every watering no issues so far
Hi Melissa! Can we see how this Monstera looks today? I have a new Thai Constellation. I want to try Pon. I am a new subscriber. Been binging on your videos. Ty!
You’ll make a great aesthetician. Some of those beauty spas need a qualified Nurse injector 😊. Bedside can get crazy, imagine you have a coding pt, other pts needing their pain meds and a new admission on the way. And the CN that could have helped also has a few pts because the unit is short staffed 😮💨
Hi Melissa, would you do a video update of this repotted Albo in pon as well your Thai Constellation and Aurea if you repot in pon as well. How was the growth after couple months. More power to your channel 💖
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. Such a smoothing voice. Question, you are so young why do you stress so easy? You loose energy so easy. Do you take vitiams? I hear you often say those things. Just asking with love Melissa.
The Leca Queen uses moss poles with Leca. I will be too. My Albos will be going into Leca. I have a Thai con top cut in Leca and another Thai will be going into Leca. I love using pon as well I have a P. Silver sword in pon!
You make rooting albos so easy in water. They’re notorious for rotting. I’ve struggled rooting (tried water, moss, stratum, etc). I should have stuck with water and just let them be. Next time I’ll just do water.
I'm super interested in your albo!!! Ugh I wish I didn't live where its cold! Your cats are absolutely beautiful and your plants are sooooo stunning! I just bought two big bags of lechuzapon, what pots are good quality and not expensive like on the lechuza site(whew!)? I see some listed in your amazon list, are those still top of your semi hydro choices?
Thank you! 😊 yay! I saw it was recently in stock again. The pots on my amazon are the ones I use! Lechuza's pots are definitely expensive 😬 Here's my pon section: www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/3DGT1T05R3EUS?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d
@@plantsbymelissa Thank you! I actually already checked out your pon section but thank you for linking it! I just wanted to make sure that those were your up-to-date selection😸 I actually ordered two big bags on accident 😆One in german off amazon and one straight from Lechuza. I think the one on amazon was less AND a bigger bag but will have to double check on that. Thank you for the pon videos as now it's fired my curiosity as I used to use leca!
I thought your last few videos were really quiet in sound. Maybe you can turn it up a little bit? Always looking forward to your videos! First like and then watching :)
Hi Melissa! Another nurse here. Can you use horticulture lava rock in place of Lechuza pon? I ordered a monstera borsigiana albo variegated rooted nodes cutting from Etsy. Is it better to keep it in water for a few weeks, perlite or my substitute lechuza? I’ve had a lot of success with the horticulture lava rock- but some cuttings struggle when I put them with their mother plant in soil. I love your videos! ❤. Your plants are as amazing as your videos!!!
Hi Linda! I haven't tried just lava rock so I'm not too sure. I've only been using lechuza since June so it still feels pretty new to me. If the plant was in soil I would acclimate it first in water for a week or 2 before going to pon. Some cuttings can struggle going to soil so I try to have a good root system first to help the with the transfer and even then some won't make it so it happens. Watering and light after can make a difference too.
Great video! I am a nurse too. Two years as a new grad on med/surg. Then I did 15 years in L&D, but understaffing and a terrible new manager ruined that career. That used to be such an awesome and rewarding job too. Then I went to PCU! What was I thinking?!?! 😳 Telemetry was tough. There was not enough time to care for the patients and keep up on charting. You never mentioned all the charting! It never ends! It’s ridiculous. Your career as a nurse now is dominated by being in the computer! I hate it! My PCU floor turned into a Covid floor. Covid sucks. The patients were great honestly, but the gowning and wearing N-95s was awful. What a disaster that all was. We had Covid patients and others that met criteria for ICU, but they had no beds! It sucked and some patients were so bad that having a 4:1 ratio was ridiculous and dangerous! If they magically had an ICU bed, they would be a 1:1 or 1:2! I was floated to ICU as well but only with the team nursing they created. That was interesting, but my responsibilities were basic. I did that for 8 months then went to the Preop Clinic where I do phone calls for the surgical patients. It’s such a sweet job. No weekends, holidays, understaffing issues or stressful situations. I share an office with 2 other nurses and we have plants everywhere! We listen to music too and chat often. It’s awesome! Such a drastic difference from bedside floor nursing!!! If you ever go back to nursing, there are some great options that are very low stress! My husband and I have the same journey as you guys. We moved in quick and bought a house together after dating for 6 months 😳. We lived together for 7 years and married the month I graduated nursing school in 2006. Crazy how fast time goes!
aw I know it makes me sad hospital nursing is the way it is. So many good nurses left. I think if I had an outpatient job I would have felt a lot better about it. Preop sounds so much better than all the craziness on the floor. I have to renew my license soon so I'm going to keep it active just in case I have to go back...not to the hospital though. I just can't do that again 😩 oh wow you and hubby have been together for awhile too! That's amazing and yes it goes too fast!
I worked evenings as a nursing assistant for 15 years in the O.R. I totally understand what you're saying about turnover and how you're treated. I quit Aug.2019. I was totally burned out and working for 3 people because they didnt hire help. Working your regular 8 hr. shift and on call the midnight shift and doing weekend calls.... they didnt care. I wasn't going to be forced to take any more vaxxines either. Stick a fork in me...I'm done!
aw it was so tough. I worked as a NA before being a nurse so I always tried to do as much as I could because 1 NA for an entire floor is too much work for one person. It's ridiculous! Some days we didn't have any at all so it makes you appreciate all the help you can get. So sorry about your experience!
Would you ever consider showing us some of your drawings if you get back into it, or any current one's you have? Also, is there any other content you would consider creating if plants were no longer a big hit?
A lot of my old artwork I don't have anymore but it's been a long time since I did anything. I used to want to do a beauty channel back in the day so I'm not sure! Some people told me I should do ASMR 😁
Lovely long video ty....one question for another time have you thought of doing collabs with other plant youtubers? Like some joint videos etc? You never know someone out there might want the whiter albo pot you could try doing ebay auction or something? x
I'm definitely up for doing collabs! I turned one down earlier this year because I felt stressed about it haha. I'm such a quiet/shy person so it's hard for me to break out of my shell sometimes 🫣
I believe the tc sterile thing is fake. It’s a Princess Bride thing. I don’t think that word means what you think it means. 😂 TC being in a “sterile” environment, somehow morphed into TC plants being reproductively sterile. I co-sign on using silica boosts, especially for variegated plants. I think it really helps with browning and you can feel a texture difference in the leaves. My Kunzo tricolor looks spectacular and the pure white on the leaves does not melt away like most Adansonii I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see how it helps with my new monstera albo and Frydek as they size up. Just make sure it’s the first nutrient you mix and let the water settle at least 20 min before adding anything else. Those albo props look amazing.
If you don't fill moss poles with something I would think weight of plant as it grows will be too heavy and bend it. Have you considered coco coir with pvc steak in it instead of wood bottom? I think it would work better in pon
I bought come coco coir with a pvc bottom recently for my aurea that I potted up so I'll see how it goes. I'll probably have to add some sort of support stake to the back of it :)
Omg,😢 I’d be screwed, too, cause I can’t handle the thought of black widow spiders and poisonous snakes coming near my plants and then me finding them on my plants 🙈 - Hawai’i living doesn’t make that possible thankfully 😅
Melissa, how do you deal with thrips? They’re killing my monstera and they won’t go away. I don’t see them but i see the damage. I’ve been treating it regularly and they keep coming back
yeah thrips are a difficult pest to get rid of :( I had them for two months last summer. I ended up using beneficials to help me and just staying super consistent with getting rid of any you see right away.
If you have a really bad infestation try using a sulfur based liquid concentrate that you spray on all your plants and repeat it weakly. Also use a systemic granulars in the soil to kill the eggs. I had thrips and tried various insecticides and best that has worked is a sulfur liquid that is labeled for garden and plants. I haven’t tried beneficials yet. Do you intend to transition all of plants to Pon? I would like to try it, but the challenge of the availability of the product and the cost for the pon and vessels add up.
oh no I still love my aroid mix and love having plants in it. It will be mostly alocasia, some anthurium and stubborn philos. I may do some hoya but wanted to test a monstera out to see how it goes. I don't want to over do it because I don't know how it will go long term but so far I am very much happy with it and the plants seem to love being in it!
Nursing is highly stressful and often unthankful and the excessive charting and the many demands that patients just don’t know about and it is true, the hospital only cares about patient satisfaction survey because it it tied to the bottom line so you are expected to do everything and are highly abused. I see the new kids coming in and I feel terrible because they just don’t know and I am talking about the ER portion of it. Anyway those monsteras are stunning💚🌸
Thank you! You are too kind 🥹
I’d be interested in that 😊
Thank you dear :)
Thank you.
Thank you so much!
I work as a assistant nurse att a maternity ward and suffered from burnout/exhaustion after the pandemic.
Your channel has been my comfort during the time I was on sick leave (1.5 yrs)
Thank you so much for this channel and your time & effort!
If I did't have to go back I definitely wouldn't the stress is not worth it 🥲
Luna was so cute how she laid at the table, and than wanted to lay on the towel after you dried her off with it. It was nice to see Chai Chai too😊🎉❤
Thank you! She loves this sunny spot in my plant room 🥹
For me it was the POST COVID world that is way worse than dealing with the traumatic awful covid patients.
Totally respect you for not working with brands - love your videos your voice is so relaxing ☺️
Thank you! I've been disappointed with a lot of the companies that have reached out to me. They all say the same things and I can't work with companies that don't appreciate my value or my time.
I honestly enjoy the long videos. So i hope you continue for a long time.
Hi Melissa, don’t ever stop making videos. You do an amazing job . It’s always so interesting amid I learn a lot. I believe many people would watch more than you think. ❤
Thank you 🥹
I worked in early childhood education and share the same sentiments you do about nursing.
The stress and anxiety is so not worth it 🥲
I did the exact job for 30 yrs. I retired 2020. It’s definitely not an easy job!
Thank you so much!
I hope the shop helps give you more financial strength so you can keep creating videos ❤
I always appreciate your experience and seeing your collection!
What face wash are we referring to please?
I’m super loving the channel Plants in Jars for learning more about tissue culture and the science behind it! She’s super cute, and easy to understand. Highly recommend!
Thanks! I’ll have to check it out 🫶🏻
I like adding perlite and or vermiculite to my pon to stretch my bag out more
I LOVE your long videos, not a fan of the ‘shorts’ I never watch people’s shorts.
I've had to recently add a 3rd extension to it 🙃
You could for sure put moss in your pole for the monsteras in pon if you wanted to.
I loved this chatty repot.
🫶💗 Thank you for watching!!
Taking a look at your adansonii in the back... I can´t believe that this is the same plant 7 month ago. Absolutely stunning!
They are beautiful plants ,such great new roots‼️
💚🌱🌵☘️💚
Thank you for being so open and honest! I totally can relate to the things you talked about nursing!! We appreciate the time you put into the channel😊 and your plants are inspiring!!! I show girls around my unit your marble queen. They love it❤ For Christmas I’m giving someone their first plant with a cutting of mine on a Thiccly pole!!! And of course I have my own too!
Thank you so much!! aw that's so lovely for a Christmas gift! I would love that if I was just starting out. Marble queens are so special!
I used to work in nursing too. Also, working in another field and will only go back if I must. We were working short staffed 70% of the time when I left. When we worked night or days rotation it was 2 days night shift 2 off then 3 day shifts, off 2 then nights again. Flip flop back and forth. It was horrible.
yeah the rotation is rough. The thought of going back makes me sad. Working short staffed and having everything on your plate is exhausting.
Thank you for this video! It was so enjoyable to watch . I love your long videos. I'm not much about the shorts videos and tend to skip those unless it's you. lol. I can't wait to see how the new pot ups do!
Thank you!!
Good Q & A repot; thanks for sharing Melissa!
I love long videos. The longer the better.
It's tough! I'm glad I left when I did because I was seriously so burnt out 😩 It's so demanding and stressful and wasn't worth it to me anymore 🥲
Hi Melissa. Thank you so much for answering my question and giving advice on how you made it through nursing school 🤗 I am currently taking a much needed break after a difficult semester. Hopefully this time off will help me refocus to make it through the last half of school. I’ll update you this time next year on how my last semester is going lol
Aw time off is definitely understandable it’s so much stress! Best of luck on the second half of schooling ☺️🫶🏻
@@plantsbymelissa thank you so much Melissa. I appreciate it 🫶🏽🫶🏽
I LOVE most of the skincare you mentioned!!
Even while inside, those sun rays are still coming through the glass, so I definitely need to get better with using it every day even when I'm mostly inside 😅 and reapplying it (because I always forget) 🥲
It was a lot easier to keep up with skincare, haircare, and makeup when I worked in Sephora (which makes sense lol).
I also know a couple of people from high school that went into nursing , but stopped doing it during the pandemic, and ones that do hospital admin, and its rough :/
Good on you for putting your health and mental health first, and knowing when to step away from it!
Good point about humidity! 🫶🏻
Thanks for another great video, it's so nice getting to know you better. You're a very interesting person 😊 Also, loving your Monstera's, definitely a wishlist plant for me 💖🪷💖
Love listening to your voice ❤ you're such a lovely person
Thank you so much! 🥹
Leca grower here and you can fertilize right away. Also if you don’t like the brown look of leca balls they have colored ones too
oh awesome! I thought the colored balls are ceramsite which is different?
Yeah it is but the wicking is all the matters. I like to also think of leca as a media that keeps my plant sturdy as a water prop 🤷🏻♂️
Personally I wouldn’t recommend leca unless you’ve got enough time to deal with algae and if you have a decent amount of plants in a semi hydro leca setup the time spent cleaning isn’t worth it.
Aw thanks for watching! I need some planty friends 😂🫶🏻

It's my birthday too ❤❤❤
I love your instagram amd youtube videos
RN is hard but you can help save lives
Thank you Rebecca! Sorry I went off direction a little on your question 🫣 Hoping it all works out and merry Christmas to you and your family as well 🫶
Okay that new kitty logo at the start of the video is everything! and that shirt omg I want it! *-*

Look into St Croix. It’s a United States virgin island. It is so beautiful. I’ve been there twice
I see your experience as a nurse like mine as an employee in gas stations.
I did all the things possible, from opening to closing (except night shifts, I'm just not able to do this), I was ass manager, manager and I got kick out by a very bad boss who just did like me...😅😂
It helps you understand how working in retail works, how to manage clients even when you end up (like me) having your own buisness and selling online and during events.
Lol how dare you tell Luna there’s no room for her 😂😂 also I love that your loving pon!!!! Great video :)
haha it's her table now 😆 yes!! Pon has been a game changer for me :)
I remember that feeling of being so burnt out towards the end of my last few months and I was so miserable 🥲 I hope the change to the ED is better for you 🙏
Oh hey fellow small town from Ohio girl! We were so small we didn’t even have a football team!
I love the sweater you got on very pretty.
Thank you! I got in a couple years ago 🤗
Thanks in advance!
what mix do you use for your monstera and philodendrons? I love your videos!!
Thank you! I DIY an aroid mix so it's about 30% coco coir and the rest is perlite or pumice, orchid bark, vermiculite, worm castings and charcoal.
I get everything off amazon here: www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/B6F3YIOPBQAN?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d

Silica is amazing my albos that got lots of variegate leave and a lil bit of green my albo is great no brown or burn on them i also fertelize my plants in every watering no issues so far
Hi! What brand of silica are you using?
💚for you and one 🤍for the algorithm😉
Thank you!! ☺️
I love using pon as well
I have a P. Silver sword in pon!
Ph when using silica. It bumps it up into the 8s and 9s.
Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it!
You make rooting albos so easy in water. They’re notorious for rotting. I’ve struggled rooting (tried water, moss, stratum, etc). I should have stuck with water and just let them be. Next time I’ll just do water.
I use nothing but tap water and high light! Change the water every 4-5 days and let the ends callous for at least an hour or 2 😁
Thanks for the question and answer😊. Melissa you described the challenges of nursing on point!!!
@@plantsbymelissa sticking to basics is the way to go, thank you!
I hear you the charting and worse, the use of travelers which they would pay more than you and the just blatant disrespect towards staff
@@plantsbymelissa It would be so fun and different...I'm the same as you shy wise irl 😂
I would love to buy the Albo
Monstera albo are still pretty expensive but I want one so bad.
Those albo props look amazing.
oh okay thanks for clarifying! I'm not sure where I read that at but good to know! Thank you for the tips on silica! I appreciate that so much! 🙏
My Monstera Albo has a lower yellow leaf . Should I just leave it alone? What kind of fertilizer do you recommend?
Thanks!
Thank you so much! 🥹
I ran out of moss when making my black and gold philodendron, maybe 2 foot of the 4 feet has moss. I’ll be interested to see what happens.
How about trying a metal rod? Some of them come with a few to use for support.
What kind of material do u pot up your monstera in and do u have to put them on poles. Thanks
Update on how your albo is doing in the self-watering pon substrate???
@@plantsbymelissa thank you 😊
If you have a really bad infestation try using a sulfur based liquid concentrate that you spray on all your plants and repeat it weakly. Also use a systemic granulars in the soil to kill the eggs. I had thrips and tried various insecticides and best that has worked is a sulfur liquid that is labeled for garden and plants. I haven’t tried beneficials yet. Also the sulfur works the best for those mites on Hoyas if your Hoyas aren’t growing and getting chomped on
@@Horsewoman-pt2ku we don’t have access to systemic here in Canada. Would you know what products have sulfur in them? Thanks for your reply 🥰
@@sushiegirl the product I bought from Walmart is in a blue plastic container “Bioadvanced fruit & vegetable 3-in-1 solution 32oz. It was in lawn and garden
Your mint monstera looks exactly like mine and my seller told me it's a "White Monster Monstera"
First!! Always wanted to say that haha!
haha thank you for watching!! 💗
Is the self watering pot you used linked anywhere? I’ve looked and can’t find them ❤
They’re in my pon section on my storefront. I’ll link it here for you! Happy new year 🎊 www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/3DGT1T05R3EUS?tag=onamzmeli0992-20&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m
@@plantsbymelissa oh, okay. Thank you for responding and sharing your plant journey with us.
Hello, just wondering how long u were a nurse? There's a lot of channels that speak on the toxicity in nursing. Did u experience that?
10 years 😅 I started 2011 and quit fall of 2021. Can you explain what you mean by toxicity? Do you mean from other nurses?
@@plantsbymelissa Hi, yes, I meant from the other nurses. Hope u didn't experience that.
So beautiful 💚
Thank you! 😊
@@plantsbymelissa wlcm🤗
Nursing is highly stressful and often unthankful and the excessive charting and the many demands that patients just don’t know about and it is true, the hospital only cares about patient satisfaction survey because it it tied to the bottom line so you are expected to do everything and are highly abused. I see the new kids coming in and I feel terrible because they just don’t know and I am talking about the ER portion of it. Anyway those monsteras are stunning💚🌸
Thank you! I'm glad I left when I did, I was so burnt out from everything. You said it all and it's tough 😩
I have a cutting of monstera delisiosa can I root it in peat moss, need help please
💚💚💚💚
Are you selling Monstera Albo? If yes how much and the shipment to Brookfield, Wisconsin?
How big of a pot does a monstera Albo need
