Ingredients:
Kkwarigochu (shishito peppers), flour, garlic, sesame oil, sesame seeds, green onions, dried anchovies, soy sauce, honey, and hot pepper flakes.
Directions:
Prepare 300 grams (about 10 ounce : 0.7 pound) of kkwarigochu and remove the stems from each pepper.
Wash the peppers and strain them.
Place the strained peppers in a large bowl and add 3 tbs flour (use 1 tbs flour for every 100 grams of kkwarigochu). Mix it up with your hands until the peppers are coated in flour.
Put 1 cup of water in a steamer pot and boil it over high heat.
After the water boils for a few minutes, put the peppers into the steamer and steam for 5 minutes over high heat.
*tip: Don't overcook them, otherwise they'll turn out mushy
Turn off the heat, take off the lid, and set aside.
Put a pan on the stove over medium heat.
Add 1 ts sesame oil and 2 cloves of minced garlic to the heated pan. Stir for a few seconds with a wooden spoon.
Add 6 large dried anchovies with the heads and guts removed and stir for 10 seconds.
Add ¼ cup water, 3 tbs soy sauce, and 1 ts honey (or sugar) and stir.
Lower the heat and simmer the sauce for 1-2 minutes.
Add 3 ts hot pepper flakes and mix it up with a wooden spoon.
*tip: The amount of hot pepper flakes you use depends on your taste.
Use 1 to 3 ts to make it spicy, or none at all for a non-spicy version
Add the steamed peppers to the sauce and mix it up well with a wooden spoon. Mix for about 1 minute.
Turn off the heat and add 2 chopped green onions and 1 ts sesame oil. Mix it together.
Transfer some to a plate and sprinkle roasted sesame seeds on top before serving.
Serve with rice. The leftover can be stored in the fridge up to 2-3 days.
I am confused which flours we hv 2 uses Weat flour, Plain flour or Corn Flour can someone help me please 😬
It's plain wheat flour.

I could not resist to come and write comment about how good this receipe is. This is excellent dish with rice and so healthy as I prefer vegetables to meat. Thank you again for sharing your recipe and making me happy~~ ^^ ( Kay in Phuket now)
Thank you for sharing! I tried it, but I changed the anchovy with dried shrimp. Taste really good! This is a rice killer. It makes me eat more rice than usual.
I should try dried shrimp someday, too! 👏

Just tried shishito peppers for the first time yesterday. I sauteed them w green onion and garlic then finished them with a little salt afterwards. So yummy as a side dish
@aJazzyFeel Jasmin, thank you so much for your nice message! This side dish is very delicious! Let me know how you like it though.
@ximachikenx I'm very happy to hear that! : ) Happy cooking!

Well I have 17 shishito plants and would love to do this with a majority of my harvest. Stay tuned for updates!
how’d it go
I’ve been wait for 4 years.... how was it?
Maangchi! I just made this and it turned out so well! I didn't have any anchovies or red pepper flakes so I subbed in chopped nori and gochujang. Now even though I'm too lazy to take the metro to H-mart I can eat my favorite side-dish at home :)
Which kind of flour did you use? :)
My husband and I savored this dish with just a bowl of rice (each), and that's all we needed. Yummy! :-p
Thank you so much Maangchi un-nee for being such a lovable and loving soul, for having such a sparkling, sunshine, magnetic personality, for having a great sense of humor, and for generously sharing so many delicious recipes!

Just made them, love them, the only change, I used anchovies paste, I am Italian
This looks wonderful! You have a great channel!
--Betty :)
I can imagine your cameraman is always wearing a bib during your videos so he is ready to eat the moment you say it is okay!

@luckydesu have a look around, where I live in England I though I couldn't either, it turns out there are two Asian shops close to me and one a 10 min train ride away and i found them by chance :)
yes, okra will work well, too. : ) Delicious okra jjim!
This is delicious!!! The recipe that you have sounds better than the one I was using! I will using yours!
I adore ur outfit in this vid! n love how u pack up the lunch and eat it at the end lolz :D
This looks fantastic! Do you think Hatch peppers would work for this dish or would the skin not be thin enough? Hatch tend to be sort of fleshy, but they would be a similar level of heat I think to the ones used here?
u are so cute how u put all food in the lunchbox and act like u wanna go outside :D and then open aaall and eat it ... i enjoy your videos a lot thx ^^
Its always a pleasure to watch your videos and all the food you make! You're person is so much fun to watch and the recipes always look so tasty! I am addicted! :D

I love watching you cooking those delicious dishes! Now I'm craving for korean food... fortunately, me and my daddy are going to make some Oisobagi Kimchi this weekend ;)
Korean kimchi recipes are damn good
Shes always so positive !!
Maangchi, thank you sooo much for your fun and educational cooking videos! I am DEFINITELY gonna give this one a try! I could almost smell it through the monitor! @YueNagareboshi, if you know what shishito tastes like, I'm sure you can find something appropriate. How about baby bell peppers? THAT would be awesome. Even regular bells, just cut into thick slices would probably work. As Maangchi says, just don't over steam ~ bet it'll all be yummy!
Oh my goodness that looks SO yummy. Can't wait to try it out!
Maangchi I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos I jump of joy every time i see a new video of yours........I wanted to know how do you make that rice with peas? is it the same way as making steam rice and you add peas when it's time to cook?
너무 맛있네요~^^
덕분에 요리실력이 많이 늘었어요~
You're a very good cook
i just had this at the korean restaurant!
so funny, my mom bought this at the market and ate this for dinner and was wondering how it was made. then, i went to maangchi.com and saw the recipe! how awesome, thanks!
I love your channel.
Wish the best to you all
Wow, delicious kimchi recipe ma'am looks so good..
I LOVE this channel! She's so cute! And the food looks delicious!
OMG, sooooo delicious. My mouth is oredi watering! Mangchi, how long can this side dish be stored in a refrigerator?
@Maangchi I personally don't like peppers and my mother (who DOES like peppers) doesn't like spicy, so I'll have to make this gorgeous dish for my partner! I'll be sure to try it though, it looks irresistable :) Oh and btw, you should really get to working on a print version of your blog (cook book) - I need it in my kitchen! There's no advice I'd take other than from foodwishes, cookingwithdog and maangchi! I want to show my family who doesn't have computer, too!
OH MYyyyy Icould smell what you are cooking there...ty for a good lesson
Will definitely try this at home:-) chongmal gomawoyo for sharing!
Awesome, i hope i can find this kind of peppers, if not i will replace it with other vegetable, maybe broccoli.

Here in mexico we love chili peppers.... but unfortunately we dont have shishito peppers around. I wonder if we can try another kind of peppers with this recipe.
I am sure it wont taste the same ):
Thanks for the wonderful side-dish recipe! :D!
Hello Miss Maangchi, I have some question. What is the purpose of coating the pepper with flour? And how long can I store it in the fridge? thank you very much.
I assume the flour helps the sauce adhere to the peppers
