  • I was doing a new playthrough and after beating Moder got a little bit bored, so decided to just collect the black cores and go straight to the ashlands.
Also I was watching live streams of ‪@Nezerette‬ where he did a no boss ashlands run which inspired me somewhat. It was a pure display of someone suffering for many hours. Have an utmost respect for the man for what he did. He went with full fenris, crom and the arbalest. That got me thinking - wouldn't it be better to have the root harnesk, fenris leggings, drake helmet and the silver sword? A little bit more armour, still a good mobility and pierce resistance should help, right? Also the silver sword does a very respectable damage while consuming less stamina. I could have gone with a better food from the get go - I did beat the moder, also could have made the padded helmet, but I intentionally kept the gear and food all obtainable without defeating any boss for the first landing, just to see what's it like. Not clear if this set up is any better, but one thing for sure - it is quite painful. And I had a luxury of being already familiar with the biome. Better food helps a lot, though. My advice for someone wanting to do such a run would be: invest some time and effort stocking up on serpent stew and bonemaw meat before getting in.
I did not record this playthrough and only when I went to the first fortress I thought that I could make a video about it. So all the clips up until the fortress were recorded after I already had a better gear. Still should give a good idea of what's it like to land in ashlands with that set up.

It really is a painful experience 😂.
I briefly tried out the Silver Sword, but I wasnt impressed with the damage output, but maybe I should’ve stuck with it for longer!
But I’m a fenris set enjoyer through and through, nothing you say can make me take it off!

Sailed with the longship to the first rocks and swam rock to rock. It actually was easier than I thought it would be. The most annoying bit is just before reaching the land when it is just bit too far to swim directly to shore, but close enough that so that the waves are gone which makes it much harder to get on the ridges.
