Fun fact, you can also have a poisoned steel type in Lucario if you evolve a poisoned Riolu. Thanks to the replies, I should mention that this is only interesting pre-gen 7 because of corrosion, additionally soak or any other type changing move can make a poisoned steel or poison type, so not such an exclusive thing after all.

I'm a big fan of how there is literally no reason to buy max repels. Super repels cover 200 steps for 500 pokebucks, and max repels only cover 250 for 700. It actually ends up being a lot cheaper if you only buy super repels.
I consider this fact useless since more often than not, in pokemon games, you have way more money than you know what to do with anyway LOL
Okay I’ve been playing Pokémon since I was 6. I always bought the shit out of repels because I was very impatient. I’m so mad that I just now found this new info out.
I already knew about this. I just randomly did the math one day and found this out. Also, hyper potions are completely OP before gen 6 so Max potions are almost useless.
I always bought Super Repels instead of Max Repels for whatever reason and I still do

the Feint in Feint Attack is meant to describe how they are baiting with a Feint and then striking the opponent when they aren't expecting, which explains why Feint Attack is one of the moves that bypasses accuracy checks. "Faint" in the context of Pokemon already has a meaning; when our Pokemon faint in battle.
Faint attack would be a great name for an ohko move
I always thought that the idea was like playing dead, i.e. "Umbreon pretends to faint..and strikes when the enemy's guard is down" - which is why it never misses.
I always took it as "the pokemon makes themselves look faint, as in barely visible, and then attacks". That's basically what the attack animation looked like
I actually encountered my Latias after hearing it's cry for the first time on the route west of Mauvile. It was very strange and I was like, "Wait what was that? I know for sure I didn't hear that sound before" so I just roamed around in the grass before encountering it. It then fled very fast. I never caught that Latias cuz I didn't know how to.
Very weird _and_ cool fact:
The Pokémon Dream RAdar for 3DS allowed the player to capture multiple legendaries, specifically Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Dialga, Palkia and Giratina. These can of course be transferred to Black and White 2, and will be contained in a Dream Ball. The thing is, Pokémon from Dream RAdar can be obtained very early in the game, and their level depends on how many badges the trainer has on their save file. This means you can get those powerful legends at level 5, the lowest level at which you can legitimately obtain legendaries that aren't from events like the Manaphy Egg or Sinjoh Ruins Egg. This can still be done today.
Just imagine being the first gym leader and this nobody newbie trainer sends out a legendary... yikes for the gym leader.

I'm fairly sure you don't even need to soft reset for the anti-softlock Tentacool to get it shiny. If you keep releasing the Tentacool the NPC gives you, he will just give you another one.
But wouldn't it be faster to soft reset?
@@Matthewtopia this question makes me wish i had the game on me to test it out lmao. It depends on if you can run to the pc, release it, and talk to the dude again faster than you can reset the DS and load the game back up and talk to him. I feel like if someone is fast enough they could do it in about the same time as resetting, maybe even faster if it's executed optimally, but resetting would be consistently more efficient overall since there's less room for error.
Unlike the Tentacool situation, you can actually get permanently stuck in Diamond and Pearl. On route 226, you can trade a Finneon for a Magikarp on an island. Magikarp can’t learn surf however. And you don’t have a fishing rod. So if you have no rare candies and Finneon was the only Pokémon you had in your party, you’d be trapped on an island with a hiker forever.

Similar to Surf hitting Dive and Earthquake and Magnitude hitting Dig, the moves Gust and Twister can hit a Pokémon for double damage during the semi-invulnerable phases of Fly, Bounce, and Sky Drop.
Stomp does more damage on a pokemon who used minimise
Not only that, but Thunder and Smack Down also do double damage for fly invulnerability, Smack Down specifically cancels the move outright.
Thunder, Sky Uppercut, Smack Down, Hurricane, and Thousand Arrows all also hit Fly
They all make sense though since they all reach into the sky.
the joycons in sword and shield can be any colour at all, depending on the colour hex code that's programmed into your joycon. there's software you can get that can configure your joycons if you connect them to your computer via bluetooth so if you have a custom shell, you can change them to match.
i got atomic purple shells and didn't like how when i connected them to my switch they were still red and blue on screen so i changed them to purple and in my room in shield, i have 2 purple joycons. i guess it would be pretty dumb to program all the existing joycons because they knew new ones would be released, so the game just looks for their colour hexcode. pretty cool
What’s the software name? I completely modded my joycons to be light green and I think it’d be cool to have the same color show up when I connect them to my switch
Useless fun fact: So we know that Magikarp can be obtained at level 1 AND 100 in the wild, but it's not the only one. The other one is Regigigas. Level 1 in Platinum in the Snowpoint Temple and level 100 in the Crown Tundra static Dynamax battle. Pretty nifty, eh?
I only know this thanks to SilphSpector's video, but in FRLG Golbat will attempt to evolve into Crobat if you have high enough friendship but the game will force the evolution to stop because you don't have the national dex. I thought Silph's video was wrong and tested it myself only to find out that it is real. I've played those games for nearly 15 years and I'd never seen that before.
also there is an npc in Fushia city who claims to training to become the gym leader. She only appears after you've beaten the Elite Four, so you can assume it is Koga's daughter Janine. She even appears in the Fame Checker under Koga's page.
Does anyone remember the shiny crowns from HGSS? If you take your Pokemon to certain routes, there's a chance they will find a shiny leaf. After collecting five on one Pokemon, you can go to Lyra/Ethan and they will make you a shiny crown. Also the routes you take them to is determined by your Pokemon's nature.
Another Johto related one: In GSC your mother had a chance of buying you a Poke doll that you could use to decorate your room. Along side that there were mystery gifts that gave you more decorations, and some kind of connection to Pokemon Stadium 2 to help collect even more decorations.
There's a jigglypuff in Pewter City's Pokemon center that will sing for you and play a little tune for you. It will put Pikachu to sleep in yellow. It's there in FRLG. but I don't know if it's there in Let's go.
In Emerald, there is a father and daughter in Rustboro that will give the player special backgrounds for the Pokemon Storage boxes. You had to be a member of the pokemon fan club to be able to get the codes for them. I believe the guy is like, "my daughter is sick/grumpy will you tell her some funny phrase to make her feel better?"
I feel like these next two are pretty well known: in B2W2 there is a single tile in the Pokestars studios that you can surf on. It's on a tree and it's hilarious to come back to and surf on later in the game. Also you can find N's Pokemon in B2W2 after using memory link and talking to the ex team plazma member in the Pokemon center of Aspertia City. They aren't super hard to find but you can find a level 35 Darmanitan in the Desert Resort during your first trip there.
In B2W2's Marine Tube, you can see Wailord passing by rarely. I don't know what causes it to spawn specifically, but I know it's possible to show up. It's cool!
This one's probably more well known but in the Celestial tower in BW you can hold the B button to make the trainers spin in circles. It's pretty funny to watch.

Here's a weird and useless fact about pokemon on gameboy for you: if you dunk your cartridge in Fanta Pineapple it won't work any more. Hope this helped. :)

As someone who's used Toxic to get out of sticky situations, I can confirm I've hit people with it even they're underground or underwater. I thought it was funny to imagine a Pokemon flying high into the atmosphere, only to get hit with a well aimed lob of toxins launched by a fat blob of goo named Gulpin
I'm guessing the Faraway grass thing happens because Mew uses the grass to play hide-and-seek with the player before engaging in battle.

I feel like Faint Attack was originally a typo, but they just left it because they didn't think kids would know what a feint is.
Well given that 'faint' can also mean 'barely perceptible' and the attack is used to make the other pokemon faint, it works too. Though 'feint' makes more sense

Doduo and Dodrio are actually ostriches, they're just named after the dodo. Like how Pidgey is some sort of falcon or hawk but named after the pigeon.

Doduo and dodrio were explained as really far high jumps. It's not a fly by wings but a fly by jumping large distances, like Hulk

Mew is playing hide and seek with you in the Emerald event. If you use cut, you're cheating, and no fun to play with, hence it leaving.
Fun fact: Haunter has had four different cries in the main-series games. The original in Gen 1, another in Gen 2, one slightly different from that in Gen 3, and an updated version of the first in Gen 6.
Fun fact: If you tap the pokemon's model in the summary screen in Gen 6-7, it will play the pokemon's attack animation. From my experience, if the move that is horizontally next to where you tapped is physical, the pokemon will do its physical move attack animation, and same with special and status moves
Riolu to Lucario can do that poison trick too. Evolving Riolu to Lucario will stay poisoned as a steel type.

In Gen 1, Charizard and Rhyhorn have identical cries - Ditto and Poliwag cries are also identical to each other.

In the italian version of the games, the move counter was mistakenly translated as "Contatore" instead of "Contrattacco" (due to gamefreak lack of interest in italian versions and not giving the localization team the right tools to translate them) as well as Pound into "Libbra" instead of "Botta"

I remember playing ruby a lot and I guess I must have had a Pokemon with the swarm because all I heard was the damn cries of Pokemon everywhere. Honestly never even noticed that no other games did that.
One of the useless facts that I know. (idk if it was said earlier): Zap cannon is a move with 50% chance tp hit and guarantee effect of paralyse opponent but in generation 2 only it actually have 99,6% only. It probably happened due to one of developers who misspelled check value 255/256 when game code was written.
Actually, all moves with a secondary effect that is supposed to proc 100% of the time in 2gen suffers from a glitch similar to the Gen 1 miss, where there is a 1/256 chance of it not happening anyway.
More interesting fact about Vaporeon:
It is known as the bubble-jet pokemon, but can't learn bubble, bubblebeam, or aqua-jet.
I think that makes it more ironic.
In regards to the Finnish word fact, as a child I was under the belief that beyond Cianwood, there was another region by the name Saapas, the finnish word for boot. I don't know where that came from, possibly a playground rumor or the like.
Doubly funny because when the remakes came out, they expanded that area with the Safari Zone.

(2:10) Actually, Toxic being perfectly accurate when used by Poison-types now is intended, and still works that way. The now-fixed glitch is that if the Poison-type Toxic-user somehow used a second move in the same turn (like with an ally's Instruct, for example), then the other move would also be perfectly accurate.

Youngster Joey appears in almost every Pokémon game as one of the first trainers you battle.
6:00 - to be fair, this is a system feature as well - the switch knows what color your joycons are (or were in the factory shell if you happened to do some modding) as it shows the colors in the system menus for choosing controllers and attaching/pairing new joycons. So for them to match it in-game they probably just had to call up that variable that the switch has in memory anyway.
Here's a Let's Go fact since we aren't supposed to talk about them, lol; The Pokeball plus lights up in the color of whatever Pokémon you stroll with, and even has uniquely colored lights for shiny forms. This feature carries over into Sword and Shield, as you can stroll using compatibility with those games as well.

About the switch joycons in Sw/Sh: if you’re playing on a Switch Lite, the joycon colors will default to either the red and blue or the black joycons.

If I remember correctly. In Pokemon Diamond; a Fisherman you meet just before the 8th Gym Badge asks to be shown the biggest Magikarp. In platinum it's a different pokemon he wants to see.
Fun fact - When you check your pokemon summary in FRLG, your pokemon will do a little hop. If the pokemon has taken some damage the hop will be smaller, and if the pokemon has paralysis, it will not hop at all.

Fun fact, Doduo DOES have wings. One of its early Pokedex entries and the production bible for the franchise both state that its wings are underdeveloped and that while it can fly, it does so awkwardly and slowly.

Fun fact: you can use a rare candy to revive a fainted Pokemon, and the additional HP it gets from leveling up will revive it from fainting. I actually found this out on my own. Go figure.

On the topic of that Black and White Sprite fact, if you rub up and down on the front facing Sprite, eventually it'll start hopping
The bit with Feint Attack is that it was a misspelling. A "feint" is a deceptive tactic in boxing or other such combat sports. If you pretend that you're going to attack with one hand, then really attack with the other, that is a feint. It's meant merely to distract the opponent and get their guard down for the actual attack. That is pretty much describing the move Feint, but Feint Attack kind of does the same thing to a different degree, with approaching an opponent in a non-threatening manner before attacking.
On the other hand, a "Faint" Attack isn't really anything. One could possibly say that making yourself look innocent before you attack would be "imperceptible," but it's not really. It doesn't make your attack hurt any less, nor is it necessarily "invisible," and you're obviously not acting like you're close to losing consciousness. You're simply walking up to someone in a non-threatening manner, and then attacking them. Since they don't see it coming, they can't dodge it.

Badges in Pokemon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum are musical; if you fully polish your badges then you can play a song on them. This feature returns in Pokémon Black, White, Black 2 and White 2, but doesn't require any polishing. Also, while doing some research, I learned that the badge check gate music in gen 5 also changes depending on how many badges you have. Each badge slowly builds up the Badge check gate music.
3:24 I always thought that the ability to hear wild Pokemon cries in the overworld was a relatively new feature that they added in Pokemon Sun/Moon. I had no idea that it was technically a feature 12 years earlier :O
yea if u have a bluetooth adapter to ur pc u can flash your joycon's colors to change to whatever u want so when u pair back to ur switch it shows up in that color and they work in game too

I believe I learned this from an NPC somewhere in my copy of Fire Red. He said something to the effect of "if you stand still and listen, you can hear the cries of Pokemon!"

The random cries in overworld when I played Emerald really scared me as a kid and spent a lot of time playing it with sound only on during battle or in cities/towns

Useless fact: in Pokémon yellow you need to be on your bike to get on to cycling road, however if you press to walk past the guard at the right time when he try’s to tell you that you need to be on your bike you’ll move a space forward and once his text dialogue has finished you can walk on to cycle lane, however it will still show your sprite as being on a bike even if you don’t have one
Using Pokémon Amie in generation 6 and having max friendship with it causes some occasional benefits such as surviving one 1 hp, curing its own status, dodging attacks and landing more crits. They will also turn to face you in battle with the message: "blank is awaiting your command."
In addition to this, you can hop online and see various trainer's pokémon appear in your Pokémon's pokeball and click on them to see how much time that trainer spends with them in amie via the heart amount.
You can also receive unique commemorative pokepuffs via visitor pokemon, depending on various in-game circumstances. You get the Supreme Honor Pokepuff for beating the Pokémon League, and the Celebration Pokepuff during your birthday.

Not only Surf works on a Diving Poké but so does Whirlpool, I learned that when a Clefairy used Metronome Dive and my Piplup used Whirlpool and took it out underwater
