The flutes in this song sound amazing
You are right sir!
I agree with you
MrGameDuck you are indeed correct 😁
MrGameDuck technically thank you because my 8th grade band played this exact song and I'm a flute!
+Dragon Frikin Tamer Was that at Wilson Middle School by any chance?
John Powell really went off the walls for a movie about a boy and a pet dragon.
Loved playing this arrangement, it was an absolute blast!
Well he got paid good lol
I mean he did, the jw pepper copy is $70
I played it just last year and it was literally the most fun song I've ever played it has lots of emotions and tuba gets to have fun😈
i love this show bro its so amazing
for once the low brass don't have the most boring part imaginable
I Took A Shit Today I think u would like The Cave You Fear. It sounds really cool and has some solid low brass melody.
I agree with you dude I play tuba and it sounds amazing with A Tuba, Barisax, Trombone, and baritone. My Band is playing this at Branson next weekend
guessing your thinking about the part at 0:54????
@@harryharrold5030 nah I'm talking the whole thing
@@puppeteerproductions6751 idk if the one I found isn't the one you're thinking of or something but that looked really boring for the low brass
As a horn player who just played this in my very last high school concert this piece will always have a special place in my heart
Same, we have our concert in a week but it still. I will always remember this piece with my time in the band.
@Wazzup4147 played this 4 years ago. Miss my highschool band 🥲
Played graduation last week
@@Wazzup41407The horn part at 47 🤤
your band director is a saint for choosing this song. If I don’t get this for a marching season I might seriously quit band
As an ONLY French hornist, in a 120 person band, the horn parts are truly amazing. I have always been insecure and scared to play my parts in songs, but with this song, it’s almost like it disappeared. This is the best piece I have ever played. Playing my parts out felt surreal. Whoever made this I love you ❤️😂
I have always felt this with French horn and I got offered the part today now I think I’ll take it
I'm playing this piece and I'm the only Horn in my class period, but there's 2 others in my band. I've always been scared to play loud in case I was wrong and worried that the teacher would dislike me because I'm not perfect, but I feel so at peace when I'm playing this. Also French Horn is the best!
I just picked up the horn and I have been playing Tuba for awhile and I play Tuba for symphonic winds and I play for Symphonic band as horn and I am not aloud to be in 2 bands so my band teacher just gave me a big folder of songs that I have to play in 6 weeks for a concert and they don’t have a horn player in the band right now so all the pressure is gonna be on me if I mess up because the band is smaller so if I mess up everyone will know and I just picked it up like 1 month ago so the pressure is on me hard.
The original score for the How to Train your Dragon had 12 horns in a 23 person brass section
@@brned1692 12 horns + 4 trumpets + 4 tenor trombones + 2 bass trombones + 1 tuba = 23 brass
why is no one talking about those horn parts 😍😍😍😍
Because it's the best part and no one dares to talk about it ;)
Makayla Rogers I play the french horn and we learn this at school wind orchestra.. But in this piece, there aren't any sophisticated part for horn but I can't play like that...
Makayla Rogers I play French horn and I loved to play the solo parts in my band
It’s easily the best part

Me: *found this arrangement*
The next day...
Heeyy Mr band teacher, wanna spend 70 dollars on a HTTYD arrangement???
wolfyisaspoon yes I asked my teacher the same thing except I think she said no as I am in a primary school band :-P
man my teacher actully wanted to do buy this after she heard the arrangement
Just did that and now i'm conducting it :P
My teacher is letting us play all of the pieces I can find and pay for on my own because my band is more advance than other junior high bands

Whenever I heard this song, i closed my eyes. it's just like I am flying through the sky, feeling the fresh air. so amazing...
Wolfie de Co Same! I'm not sure exactly what it is, but there's something truly special about the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack, and the movie as a whole.
oml same, when i hear this, i feel like im flying a dragon, and the horn solo makes me feel like im standing on a cliff like some legendary warrior... its like music m a g i c
This is my favorite concert band arrangement of any song and I say this proudly
The french horn part at 2:25 makes my heart melt!! Chills all the way up my spine!!!
It's 2:15 and Ikr I play baseline but that French horn solo was nice
aye! french horn player right here 😜
Are you any good
+SonoftheBread really? we have the music and saxes and clarinets have ques
+SonoftheBread nice! well... play well and loud, buddy
I DID THIS IN SEVENTH GRADE THIS WAS THE BEST THING EVER HTTYD FTW THIS IS AMAZING I GET SO NOSTALGIC WHEN I HEAR THIS
IM IN SEVENTH GRADE AND WE JUST GOT THIS PIECE ON WEDNESDAY
AYYYYYYYYYYY
Took my 7th/8th grade (advance band) like 5 months to do this.
+PopcornProductions omg same
our 7th and 8th are apart of the high school band at my school
I cry every single time we play this piece. My grandma recently passed, this brings back memories of sitting in her living room watching this show. Every time near the end, I am choking back tears. When the concert comes around, I am dedicating this piece to her. I know I'm gonna cry, but grandma, I love you.
I NEED TO GET MY CONDUCTOR TO GET THIS SHEET MUSIC! I'm sitting here, crying tears of joy right now. I can't believe that they ACTUALLY created a concert band How to Train your Dragon score!! I'm so happy!!
We're playing this right now for my freshman year.
IKR
Yes! Yes! Yes! My band needs to play this
We played this last year. (In my Freshman year) and it is a must do for my senior year. I play Flute and the solo will be mine.... 😉
It is such an amazing piece.
DerpyDragon777 Heh.... My conductor really enjoyed our performance on this piece. The Flute solo was played by a Flute Section Member who was like very experienced than me.
I am indeed lucky I will agree. 😉
The flute part at 1:13 is absolutely flawless
lmao the sad thing is our whole band has heard the recording, and i’m mostly likely going to end up playing the solo, because i’m the “best” at flute in my class, and THE EXPECTATION BAR JUST GOT 10000 BARS HIGHER
@@strawberrymoomoo_ I feel you
bruh.... 2:33 my favorite part
I love 1:13 2:33 and 3:45

And I’m only twelve-
When you're playing timpani and no one hears you still.
i8fluffy fr
In my coommunity band which has a little over 60 members, I can hear the timpani part in any song. Partly because I'm kind of sitting in front when I'm playing tenor sax.
I wanted timpani. Got chimes instead
I feel you bc I play timpani
but obviously, the conductor hears what your doing wrong and gets you in trouble
We played this in Concert Band and I started crying in the middle of it, as HTTYD was my life when when I was younger! 😂 Playing this made me so happy! 😊 Go Woodwind! 🎼
x.kixrsxtin.x YES!
Omg the last season of race to the edge came out and I'm crying because i will miss httyd (I think they are making a third movie though)

FINALLY SOMONE WHO PLAY BASSON!! :D
+whyme 95 do you play it too ? :D
yes I do!! :D
I would have played bassoon... but NO MY SCHOOL DIDN'T HAVE IT AS AN OPTION
I think the French Horn section has the best parts. I play first part on French horn for this piece and it is amazing. Peep the French Horn section 10/10
Bdawg PlaYz they really did, i was so freakin happy bro
I'm actually playing the horn part in this song because I'm my schools only French horn player lol, it's really nice to see a good horn part
Bdawg PlaYz ME TOO I LIVE IT SM
Bdawg PlaYz your right! French Horns always have the best parts. I play trombone but when my band teacher calls for French horns in a certain measure look out. It’ll be some cool part you’ve never heard.
@@tibepoesun60 it's true for a lot of schools, what horn section? I am the horn section
nobody’s gonna talk about how beautiful that flute vibrato is omg 😍
3:35 I LOVE

Those harmonies are amazing!
I literally feel so happy when I hear httyd music
I just I love it
I'm playing this in band rn and that part is by far the coolest thing I've ever played in my 3 years of playing sax.
The Horn solo really put the taste in this music at 2:15
I wish that our French horn actually played... it’s so pretty, he just doesn’t play :(
You mean Soli
It's amazing how many instruments get a chance to shine here. The whole arrangement is amazing!
its so crazy how john powell was able to make the movies 10000000x better by just music. he did an amazing job of including every instrument from flutes to french horns.
Everyone talking about the horn parts, and I’m a lonely percussionist over here
Chimes and bells and snare are perfect too
Timpani also sounds pretty good!
If you can hear it...
You guys deserve more praise than you get
Okami_6 Im playing the Timpani at my school for this peice. Er.... I *was* playing this at my school. Now we’re doing remote learning.
BattlePig101 that’s pretty cool!
Wish my band teacher buys this piece...
Bro flutes at 2:34 are absolutely breathtaking
As a low, I loved being the stilts that set up the flutes up for that part. Low parts were finally active.
Me being a bells player: Wondering where the bells are
Me hearing the bells in the music:
So are you! Killing it!
Glock players for life!
I wanna play this song but my band dw ;-;
Coming from a trumpet player, a very much agree with that. They hold the band together and get barley any credit. Also, a lot of the stuff they do is a solo, but they don’t get the praise they deserve for it.
Thanks!!
1:03 I love the high woodwinds triplets as background to the melody and then the transition to the flute solo with that trombone, tuba and bari sax part is just so sweet!
Also can’t forget to mention the horn part, absolutely incredible
1:56 this transition gives me goosebumps, the part it leads up to is so beautiful
We learned this song immediately after the winter concert but we never got it to sound right and there were many errors. After my band teacher taugh us how to simplify parts, long talks, and lots of anger, the night of our spring concert we blew our band teacher away because we always surprise him
Isn’t that just how school bands work? Fail until the last moment where we blow it out of the water?
@@sentient5 pretty sure it is. Thats how it is at my school. We always pull through in the end though.
My personal opinion is that it depends on the director for the school. Most do it in a way that causes that to happen, but I had one that got us to a point where we had gotten our concert pieces nigh perfection, and we worked on other stuff up until a few days before the concert.
I played this in 7th grade and it was one of the pieces that sparked my love for band and I feel so nostalgic listening to it again..
I love this music. the music from httyd is so amazing because it gives the spotlight to some instruments who never really get the spotlight, (horns, kinda low brass, and definitely the woodwinds/clarinets/flutes), I'm just confused why the trumpets don't get to have much of the melody or don't get the spotlight. they normally do. but still this song makes horns feel more special. 😊😁
Most of the Time Trumpets and Flutes get the melody.
you con also hear the timpanis pretty good
Crykenpie ikr, I play French horn I I'm never really important except for this song and like one other
about time the trumpets are shoved out of the spotlight. I have nothing against them, but they do have the melody in almost every song I've played
@Regina Head YES
Man, I don't even play horn and that little fill at 3:11 sends shivers down my spine.
That trumpet part at 3:36 tho!!!!Playing this in my Middle School band right now and I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Too bad I just got braces which makes it hard to play anything above a middle C -_-
Also 2:37NEEDS MORE SAXAPHONE
Are u also a sax player have I found a friend?
I feel you. Playing the Franch Horn with braces is hard.
We’re playing lions pride kill me

I play the French horn. Btw it is the FRENCH HORN!
French horn is in F..... So it is a *type* of F Horn. There's also F Alto Horn to in existence~
Have you ever studied your instrument history? The Horns we play and refer in America to as "French Horns" are actually German in origin. The French also made horns, but they use piston valves and are small bored.
This was such a fun piece. Clarinet was easily the most fun part, especially first. Clarinet army FTW!
Exactly Darth
Darth Lttl CLARINETS FTW
I've got a purple one.
Do I still count?
Elementale!Sans if I wasn't in love with my Cannonball, I would go out and buy a bright purple one right now. But my Cannonball just, it is just too amazing to give up. Wish they made oboes
Darth Lttl I can still be in the clarinet army with a purple one tho right?
Elementale!Sans as far as I'm concerned, yep. We take oboes too!
f horns sounded beautiful 😉
Ismael Campa you're not wrong.

The trumpets at 0:37 sound amazing
I play the trumpet, and honestly when low brass takes it they are better than any trumpet solo I have ever played
SO TRUE!
I played this on flute for concert band a few months ago. 3:36 was my favorite part
This song is so much fun to play
Is anyone gonna talk about the trombone and euphonium part at 0:45
It’s epic
I'm a trombone player and I wish we were playing this piece this year so I can play that. I'm stuck playing Frozen :/
That sucks for you
This piece is awesome, as a trombone player it’s very fun to play!
I’m not even a low brass player but that part SLAPS!!
Thank you I appreciate you not ignoring us 😂
I WANT TO PLAY THIS SO BAD!
Same here
I played it
Our band wasn’t the best but everyone loved this arrangement and you could tell they wanted to do their very best. Playing through the entire piece without crying was so difficult to me. There was so much passion and emotions throughout this song! Of all the song my band play, this one stuck with me!
where's my trumpet hommies at?
Best part is the trumpet intro to this is berk and then 1:02 when everyone joins in mainly that
#BRASSFTW
Totally agree, I play trumpet myself and this is a masterpiece
This song has a special place in my heart since i loved the movies when i was younger not only that but personally, i think these pieces of music sound amazing
Clarinets get the melody in most of this. I played one when I played highlights from the motion picture how to train your dragon. I play Bass Clarinet now.
EDIT: now I’m playing highlights from the motion picture but on Bass Clarinet. We sounded horrible two years ago
GamerSlimes115 Clarinets ftw
GamerSlimes115 flutes get more of the melody lol and when they're doing the scales while trumpets have melody, the clarinets are playing with the flutes. I believe all parts are equally as good though
MrGameDuck your correct
i play the drums
Ruben Moons yesssssssssss!!!!!l!!!!k!
French Horns! 🎶📯🎶
Well, trumpets and horns are there really awesome. Btw I am playing on Trumpet for 4 years right now and after 5th year I want to start playing on French horn.
Btw I am from Czech republic
I love the music that starts at 3:35 !

Honestly, listening to this after being in marching band for 4 years gets me imagining how cool a show with this music could be
Yea in my band we are going to play this at the end of the year for parents and I play french horns:)
Definitely one of my favourite film-scores of all time... Not only memorable & stirring, but iconic. (And even though it's not included here, the selection "Forbidden Friendship" is one of my all-time pieces of music ever!)
And reading the comments below is also fun. Each person noticed a different instrument! Brass, flutes, Fr. Horn, Oboe, etc.
This was the last song I played in high school with my band. The trombone part so awesome and memorable. Every time I hear this I wanna cry because I miss it so much 😢
Omg same here. This was legit one of the last pieces I ever played in high school. Man I miss those days. This was especially easy for my my final year because I'd already played it once before in middle school.. yea, those days were awesome.
1:12-1:20 Flute solo. 😉

this is my childhood... IM SO HAPPY TO BE PLAYING THIS AT THE CONCERT THIS YEAR 😭
Best piece I’ve ever heard, gives me chills every time!
this song holds so many memories for 8th grade😭😭😭
This has been so helpful for practising, learning the piece with my school band and I love it :)
i can plug my phone in my drum so i can play along
Amazing! We just started practicing this in our year 7 band but all we hear is alto’s and even when the conductor tells them to be quiet, they overpower the entire band lol.. I loveee the flutes and trumpet parts
NerfThis Mercy! Lol in my band we have 1 alto sax me! Lol
Em Mey wow its the complete opposite in our band lol
I know what you mean, in my music class there were like 17 altos most of them just played normally, around 8 trumpets but only 3 really played, 3 trombones, 3 tenors but really only me and this other dude played, 1 baritone, 10 clarinets only like 6 played, maybe 5 flutes really only like 3 played, 2 tubas rea`lly only 1 played, and 2 basses which always messed up lol, and all we heard were altos. They always overpowered, I don't if it's just me but other than altos for some reason we have something against altos.
I had a concert recently. On Wednesday, March, 6th, 2024. The advanced band played this piece. It was amazing! This is my fourth year as a flute. I saw the advanced band flute piece and silently tried to finger the notes.😂 Im in the El Dorado beginning band. We played Zap, Harry Potter and, of course, America The Beautiful. It was the arrival festival
I've been playing flute for many years now and this song has such a fun and new color for the flute part, I loved playing it!
Love the trumpet solo👌
Amazing music, my band has had to learn it in 1 month and surprisingly it is extremely close to how the recording sounds, by far one of the most challenging yet beautiful pieces of music I have ever played.
#FlutesFTW
Wulfgirl03 flutes have the best sound of any instrument, in my opinion. That's why I chose it over all the others.
MrGameDuck I agree, I also like the sound of a Barry saxophone but when I first started band, that wasn't an option.
Wulfgirl03 yeah same. In beginning band at my school you could only play alto sax, and in advanced band right now, my friend that used to play alto sax now plays Barry sax. It's like almost as big as he is 😂😂

This is so beautiful and I hope my band is able to play this one day. Also, HOW COME I DON'T SEE ANY PERCUSSION COMMENTS?! I've been wanting to play this peice ever since I've gotten good at playing the flute, which was my seventh grade year at junior high. Its been two years, I'm now a freshman, and my band teacher wants us to play it at our first concert, I'm very excited, even if it is difficult and has a lot of triplets.

Hehe I see an ARMY
My schools got A Marching band Flute Army that will keep growing. Ill make sure of that. I got 5 more years of Marching Band. (My School we start in 7)
Ellie Emmerling Wow thats a long time. You guys must be amazing. For us its like an extracurricular during high school and you can join whenever you want. But same as our band we have more flutes than any other instrument,
We are a very small school district. Our Middle School and High School is one building. We are a division 5 Football team. Which is understandable considering our district size. Also amount of kids that go to our school. If we didnt have 7th and 8th grade in our Marching band we would have literally 30 Marching Highschool kids and 7 or 8 Flagline/Daneline. Because of our school district size they say they keep the Middle School and the High school apart really well. They dont. This Marching Band season we had 4 Middle School Flutes and 2 High School Flutes. But Next year we will get more Newbz. For Us Trumpets is the largest with I dont know how many like 8 to 10. But Flutes come after that.
I purchased this for my schools band and i played the timpani part everyone loved it
when trumpets play it brings the whole song together
I played this my 8th grade year such a good pice with good lowbrass parts
Don't know if this was mentioned yet or not but french horns slay at 2:14. I play clarinet but man the french horns have a cool part there.

I played this song in 8th grade, and it was the most amazing experience I have ever had when playing the trombone. I listen to this often and almost cry every time because of how much I love this song. I still cant believe i was able to be a part of playing this.
ps. not this video specifically but in the band at my school.
Doing this song in marching band! (I’m in color guard but I play clarinet during school) I love this piece especially with our choreography with the flags
Yes flutes rule.
I remember in 7-8th grade hearing my highschool wind ensemble play this and just.. completely being in awe. I looked up to them so much and now I’m a junior in wind ensemble! I feel terrible tho lol I’m not nearly as good as the saxophones were back then.. I really wish we had the opportunity to play this!
We were supposed to play this before quarantine happened 😭 I was so excited...
Oh man, memories from my freshman year. We played this and it was a badass song to play. We played this for the middle schoolers alongside Marche Diabolique and the other song, I don't remember which one it was. But the three songs we played for them were just soooopoo good. I miss my freshman year so much. I want to salute all the band veterans that graduated that year. I miss you guys! "Chingon!"
2:34 hands down best part of the piece
i think we need to applaud whoever played the chimes on this for making them sound as beautifully dramatic and cinematic as possible
I love how even though at measure 14 a lot of woodwinds have the same part as trumpet and you only hear trumpet same with the measures after, you only hear trombone and trumpet 0:37
