nothing makes me more melancholy than watching old youtube videos and hearing something among the lines of "we live in the year 20**" time really flies
@@zubetpwow you commented this an hour ago on an 8 yr old video and I happened to be watching it as well. Glad to know I’ve some company on my “trip to the past” merhaha
Honestly I would just consider all of James content as simply timeless. Like even 20 years or more later it's worth coming back to. Kind of like how he describes some atari games vs tiger games. James is truly classic and now matter how many times you view his content you can always come back to it. I want to meet him someday.
I basically treat these videos like a podcast now. They're nice to put on as background noise while I do work. Hearing those date comments like "We live in the year 2007" never fail to make the wistful nostalgia set in, though. Thanks for all the great work over the years!
These videos are so timeless and perfect there’s no reference for the time other than quality but it’s still great for later 2000s early 2010s James deserves a medal for avgn series
Does anyone else just love playing full seasons of avgn in the background while sleeping or is it just me because it's really calming and satisfying to listen to it's like listening to white noise of a guy yelling about bad games lol 😂
Holy shit, the entire second season. Well I don't have anything better to do for the next three hours now. Some day James' kids will be bitching about how shitty Playstation 4 games were.
James really needs to get some new locks on his door and upgraded home security. Or else monsters and serial killers and bugs bunny will just keep coming.
Hands down the most rewatachable series ever. Either while working, sleeping, needing some background noise, anything! And he is still going like 20 years later! Long live AVGN!
In case you were wondering, the Nintendo Power page he stapled shut was the jar of toenail clippings (yes, the same one he shows). I paused the frame, looked up a .pdf of the issue of Nintendo Power (Volume 82, March 1996), because I had to know. So, to me, this means one of two things: 1) Either the ad was run mulitple times in different issues of the magazine (I didn't check other issues looking for it) or 2) He filmed the segment about stapling the pages shut before filming the ad showing the toenail clippings. But I don't know. Add it to the list of AVGN unsolved mysteries.
Check out some of the Cinemassacre film stuff , like Monster Madness. James knows his shit VERY well. Not only shooting scenes , but film criticism and horror as a genre , as well as super knowledgeable. Stephen King is the only person I have seen talk so passionately on the subject , while still having such a deep grasp of it.
Not possibly, It is. Too much good episodes... Ghostsbusters, Spiderman, Silver surfer, Texas Chainsaw massacre, Halloween... even atari 5200 is good enough
I love the amateur lighting in these old episodes. There's something weirdly cozy about the golden tones and shadows on the wall. It feels like you're hanging out in a buddy's basement with an old bedside lamp to illuminate everything.
Hey if anyone sees this let it be known! There is a GOOD GHOSTBUSTERS GAME ON NES! It's called NEW Ghostbusters 2. Emphasis on the NEW. If anyone sees this and my comment doesnt just fade away make sure James gets the message.

+Poketto it's pure laziness, they could of retooled the feature to get more use out of it, but it's UA-cam so they axed another good feature. People still make video responses but cannot attach them.
The fact that UA-cam now scrolls you back to the start of the comments section every time they play a fucking advert is as ass as Ghostbusters on the NES.

I fell asleep while rererewatching this last night, so I'm watching it again. So far doing okay, but still have a bit over 3 hours to go. (edit: nope, passed out again at around The Simpsons)
This season has the top 3 episodes in avgn history, for me... 1. Ghostbuster: "im not here try and figure out how the game works, im here for retell my experience as a gamer" I can imagine the frustation of James for getting and playing this piece of shit as a kid being a serious fan of ghostbuster franchise. This frustation and anger is perfectly embodied in this episode. 2. Spiderman: the Kyle's performance of Spiderman is not better than Joker in Batman's episode, but its stupid and hilarous as shit (and spiderman games are totally shit). Avgn: This is YOUR game Spiderman: This game sucks my spiderball!!!! 3. Silver surfer: the fucking essence of a typical avgn episode
I don't know why; but with all the crazy endings and game destructions...Silver Surfer still gets me laughing the most. He just wanders off-screen. You hear the system pop out the game. Then the cartridge just smacks the wall. Classic.
Every single episode of AVGN has aged surprisingly well and is still enticing and entertaining on rewatch. Props to you, James, you've hit my funny bone.
When i was a little kid and watched the texas chain massacre episode of AVGN, it genuinely freaked me out. Looking back on it now, it's really well done! Just for a simple review! This skit was perfect and honestly had me scared.
I just love how a Genesis controller is compatible with an Atari 2600 console. Just like how all USB plugs can be inserted from PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and mobile devices. That is so amazing how all types of hardware can share the same compatible plugs. :D

Honestly I would just consider all of James content as simply timeless. Like even 20 years or more later it's worth coming back to. Kind of like how he describes some atari games vs tiger games.
Why not just ask him?

Ok, rewatching that Halloween episode and damn, it really stand out, even today. Like he really knew how to make good scenes(and still know).
That's because James went to film school
Check out some of the Cinemassacre film stuff , like Monster Madness. James knows his shit VERY well. Not only shooting scenes , but film criticism and horror as a genre , as well as super knowledgeable. Stephen King is the only person I have seen talk so passionately on the subject , while still having such a deep grasp of it.
You made my childhood and late teens so great, James. Bless you

I love the amateur lighting in these old episodes. There's something weirdly cozy about the golden tones and shadows on the wall. It feels like you're hanging out in a buddy's basement with an old bedside lamp to illuminate everything.

and when we had video responses and groups

This season has the top 3 episodes in avgn history, for me...
1. Ghostbuster: "im not here try and figure out how the game works, im here for retell my experience as a gamer" I can imagine the frustation of James for getting and playing this piece of shit as a kid being a serious fan of ghostbuster franchise. This frustation and anger is perfectly embodied in this episode.
2. Spiderman: the Kyle's performance of Spiderman is not better than Joker in Batman's episode, but its stupid and hilarous as shit (and spiderman games are totally shit).
Avgn: This is YOUR game
Spiderman: This game sucks my spiderball!!!!
3. Silver surfer: the fucking essence of a typical avgn episode
"Spiderman games are totally shit" um
Spiderman 2
Spider Man for ps1
Spiderman ps4
I don't know why; but with all the crazy endings and game destructions...Silver Surfer still gets me laughing the most. He just wanders off-screen. You hear the system pop out the game. Then the cartridge just smacks the wall. Classic.

I just love how a Genesis controller is compatible with an Atari 2600 console. Just like how all USB plugs can be inserted from PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and mobile devices. That is so amazing how all types of hardware can share the same compatible plugs. :D
Not only that, pretty much all 9-pin joystick (and paddle) controllers had the same pinout. Along with all the old school consoles and computers. From Atari 2600 to Genesis, from Atari 400 computers to Commodore 64 all the way up to Atari ST and Commodore Amiga.
