When you start your locs you palm roll the locs. After the locs grow longer the ONLY part is twisted is the NEW growth. Also you also use a (NON ALCOHOL) gel. And of course you maintain your locs by oiling your hair AND scalp. Massage the oil into your scalp. THAT'S it. I say this b/c I've had my locs over 25 years. HAVING said that to each's own.

When you interlocked your hair, did you use a 2 point, 3 point or 4 point rotation? I think many people have said that the higher the number, the more compact your locs may be.
I'm considering alternating between interlocking and retwisting. I think using a 2 point rotation will still allow the locs more room to fill out and not be too compact like a 4 point.
But I agree with you on not palm rolling. I would only retwist the roots for overall fullness.

Hey sis. I started my Locs March 2023 .Thicknesses and growth I’m getting there gradually. I Retwist every 4 weeks till my hair locs. But for some reason my locs are not staying in when I Retwist, it quickly come apart after Retwist. I’m very hands on when it come to my hair and skin. I oil my scalp, make sure it stays Clean. But for 7 months now into my locs journey, I feel like my hair should be locs and not coming apart. My locs tech is great, but I think something is not going right with my locs. I’m getting the thickness and growth, but I just feel like my hair should be locs by now and to drop, and I’m not getting that. Any advise please and suggestions? Because I’m on my way to a year now, at least my hair should be able to bounce, because is not locs I’m not getting that vibes. I’m new to the locs community help me out please. Don’t want to get frustrated or switch my locs tech. May be she need to try something else or what? I know locs go through stages and time to get to your desires goals, but 7 months now, my hair should be on the path to locs and drops which will give it that bounce vibes when I move my hair. Please help me out.

I feel like loc styling after retwisting def contributes to breakage. I see so many women who style after getting their hair retwisted and keep it in for as long as they can. I think it’s too much tension placed on the scalp and leads to thinning at the roots. I would avoid styling it for a while & lightly retwist it and see if your roots thicken back up.
