    Guys. Asus recently released bios update for this card. and it fixed the problem.

      Its been pretty mixed. A lot of others havent had this issue. Hardware Canucks for instance. I suspect earlier versions of the card were not as bumped up for power draw and clocks, and Asus made a last minute decision to add extra power. Either case, bios update fixes. Shame HU got the bad card.

    so to summarize - to achieve same gaming performance as any other 5700 XT card Strix is:
    pulling more power
    therefore is getting hotter
    therefore fans are louder
    and on top of all that it's the most expensive 5700 XT

Also, Buildzoid broke down this card and showed it has tough VRMs. This is an overclockers card and it will out clock any other air cooled card, something not talked about here. Also, Asus release a bios update to address the power efficiency complaints.

    Re: the high temps in this test. This was done in OCT, and I have since learned, there was a problem with how ASUS put the 5700 heatsinks together. Now apparently, all models of 5700 shipped around Jan 2020, have rectified this problem, so, in principle, this should result in lower temps. Got a Strix RX 5700 XT myself and happy with the card, apart from some bugs on AMD part (you don't mention in your review), the card runs great and hits 85 celsius under load in a midi case. One of the top performance cards on the market and able to match a 2070 Super, for still less money than a 2070 Super in my country.

      I’ve had a strix for about two months now. I will say, the default fan curve is really conservative. If you adjust it to a more agrresive curve, the card runs peak temps 81 degrees under full load and 95 junction temp, which is fine. The new efficiency bios is also pretty decent. Power draw is less but at the cost of like 1 or 2 frames max.

    I'm really not understanding why this review claims this card runs hot? I just installed this card the other day and without under volting or doing anything whatsoever I'm getting max temps of 68 degrees F with extreme benching. I'm sure once I do under volt the card these temps will drop by another 5-10 degrees... Yes this card is huge and has an over built power deliver system but I believe based on my own testing the high temps are quite simply due to inadequate case room and ventilation. I have an EVGA DG-86 K boost case (which as you know is huge) and with the included 140mm fans I am having zero high temp issues... This card performs and does so well. I have had zero crashes or driver issues...

The higher power draw offers no performance increase so is completely detrimental to its value. It's a $400 card that performs among the quietest and coolest of all the 5700 XT variants. @hardware unboxed Yeah, the card is expensive, no doubt about that BUT - as for the noise and temperature, I found a pretty easy "fix." It seems that the GPU Tweak II software rules out default BIOS settings with that very high power input etc. So far, even the OC setting runs much more quiet and cooler than before. Fans are barely audible and temperature doesn ´t exceed 68-71 °C (Tested on GTA V, ultra settings, Frame scaling at 1,500x, Hi-Res shadows and so on...). I don´t observe any noticeable performance drop (of course, GTA V isn´t the best game to measure that). Before, temperatures went always up to 75 °C and fans were pretty loud. PS: Powers were, mostly, below 205 W)

    • @Jakubcu
      @Jakubcu 5 років тому

      Point is: you can have quiet and cool card, it only needs few tweaks... Moreover, with silent or gaming mode on (or manual voltage/frequency/power choke) I think you won´t even recognize the card running (mostly - depeneds on how loud your other fans are)

    I feel that extra OC on these, expensive third-party cards it aimed at people who are splitting hairs over performance differences and probably don't realise the actual difference between each one isn't really significant. Unless you're doing XOC-ing then a VRM that draws this much extra power doesn't seem to make sense. When Steve was going over the cooler I thought it would end up running with low-noise and at a reasonable temperature but was disappointed after watching the review. I'd rather take a card that runs a couple of degrees warmer, but noticeably quieter over something like this which might give a single-digit FPS boost in most games but run louder. I bought my PC in late 2014 and had the attitude of more FPS over anything else but slowly began to become annoyed at how loud my PC was. My next build later this year is absolutely going to be focused on being quiet at the expense of SOME performance and temperature.
