    Hi Andy, always a pleasure to watch you fish. I have not used streamers as almost all my river fishing is done to competition rules and I dont get much pleasure fishing on rivers as I live in Essex but I can see the value of streamers in dirty conditions. Many thanks for all you do for us. Iain Fraser.

    Great vid Andy - and nice fish! I streamer fish often, and find that casting across the stream, maybe slightly upstream produces less lost fish. I understand and agree about a trout being suspicious about a fleeing baitfish swimming upstream, but contact is everything when streamer fishing, and having a good connection to the fly trumps everything else.
    Keep up the awesome work! 👌

    Hello Andy, Actually I think you did the streamer thing pretty well in tough conditions. One thing I have to say about tossing them upstream. I have seen it work and I too have a friend that has had success spin fishing that way, but most of the theory I've heard regarding that is that bait fish usually don't flee downstream toward predators which are usually facing upstream. In Alaska (and other placers) I have tossed tons of streamers and for me the most consistent success has come from the old across and downstream presentations. Line control and depth also trump retrieve styles. The main thing in high colored water I believe, is to get it in front of their face! Looking forward to your next video. Always a favorite, thanks!

    Your leader combination is interesting and makes sense.
    Here where we fish in BC and Alberta, we fish in quite different conditions though sometimes we can find the slow calm waters you get to fish there.
    For most of the streams and rivers here, they are fast, freestone or pocket water. We have tried a number of combinations ourselves in those conditions. We use a very simple combination of a 9' tapered leader to about a 4x tippet then we can add three feet of whatever we need tagged on the end.
    That's us up here, we simplify to perfection as we go! I think we get antsy when we have not got a fly in the water so we get it done ASAP😂

    Great video again Andy that type of water didn't bother me when trout fishing years ago used to fish the minnow a lot on the clyde and lots of other rivers you would get most takes when in middle of river or when it started to shallow up fish would chase you all way in was great and always did cast up stream to give it time to sink the fish would mostly be hugging the bottom in those conditions

    Thanks for making the video and posting it. I know it wasn't the greatest of days, but I still enjoyed it, and that was a beautiful Brown Trout. I have to admit I also drove home in my waders the other day, as I'd fished till dark and the temps were plummeting towards freezing.
    On a related note, I have found that when the water is cold and high the fish seem to take a micro jig streamer fished euro style much more readily than a traditional large streamer being swung. What do you think Andy, could this be true or am I imagining it?
    I'm looking forward to the next video - hopefully it will involve a nice warm spring day and a big hatch of mayflies!

    • @IBandAndyFishing
      @IBandAndyFishing  Рік тому

      I think that's really going to depend on your water clarity and temperature Tom. If there's little prospect of them being able to feed on nymphs in the riffles then the fish aren't likely to sit there, making the euro style less productive. If the water is warmer and the fish have moved to the feed lines I think you've got a better shot on the euro stuff then. Does that make sense?

      Match streamer size and weight to your fly line, and don’t think that all streamers have to be enormous; match your local minnow size. The beauty of streamer fishing is the fast and easy casting, you don’t have to worry about gentle landing or drag-free drifts! Bang it down near the bank and rip it back like a terrified minnow. Doesn’t get much more fun.
